
SCE announces lifting fishing ban of Safi, Shaari, Andag fish
The Supreme Council for the Environment announced that the seasonal fishing ban on spangled Emperor (Shaari), rabbitfish (Safi) and seabream (Andag) fish in the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Bahrain, effective from Saturday, May 31.
The ban, which began in early April, forms part of national efforts to protect marine resources and promote their sustainability.
The SCE underscored the General Directorate of Marine Resources' commitment to preserving marine biodiversity and regulating fishing activities in line with international environmental standards, to maintain a balance between economic utilisation and long-term sustainability of marine resources.
The SCE clarified that the ban was implemented under Edict (2) of 2024 concerning the prohibition of catching Shaari, Safi, and Andag fish. The measure was introduced to safeguard fish stocks and support environmental balance, contributing directly to the rehabilitation of marine ecosystems and ensuring the sustainability of marine resources for future generations.
The directorate commended the efforts of partner entities involved in monitoring and enforcement during the ban period and emphasised the importance of continued cooperation with regulatory authorities to achieve the national goals of protecting marine biodiversity and reinforcing the sustainability of marine resources.

Call for urgent action to safeguard environment
His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa has emphasised the importance of adopting further initiatives aimed at strengthening environmental security. This call aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, who continue to champion national strategies that prioritise environmental stewardship and long-term ecological well-being. HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman made the statement as he chaired yesterday a meeting on the latest developments of the Bahrain Mangroves initiative, at Riffa Palace. The meeting reviewed updates on the 2025 action plan for the Bahrain Mangroves Initiative. His Highness emphasised that the strategic goal of quadrupling the Kingdom's mangrove tree population by 2035 reflects Bahrain's broader commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. He affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to strengthening environmental protection and ensuring the long-term sustainability of its natural resources. His Highness noted that building national capability to secure a better future and confront environmental challenges particularly climate change requires a united and swift, coordinated action. Commendation His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman commended the efforts of the Supreme Council for the Environment, led by His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Personal Representative of His Majesty the King, along with the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and all relevant authorities for their continued implementation of key environmental initiatives. He noted that the Bahrain Mangroves Initiative serves as a national model for advancing environmental security.

Authority named for cultural and artistic institutions
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, yesterday issued Edict (26) of 2025 naming the competent administrative authority and the minister responsible for cultural and artistic associations, clubs, and private institutions of a cultural and artistic nature, and defining their respective specialisations. The edict was issued based on a submission by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and following the approval of the Cabinet. The edict stipulates that under Article (I), the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) shall be the competent administrative authority, and its president shall be the competent minister for cultural and artistic associations, clubs, and private institutions of a cultural and artistic nature, as stipulated in Decree-Law (21) of 1989 concerning social and cultural associations, clubs, private entities operating in the field of youth and sports, and private institutions. The Authority and its president shall exercise the powers set out in this law. Under Article (II), Edict (7) of 2012 concerning the designation of the competent administrative authority and the minister responsible for cultural associations and defining their powers shall be repealed. HRH Prince Salman also issued Edict (27) of 2025, amending certain provisions of Edict (43) of 2003 concerning the regulation of areas in which non-Bahrainis may own property in the Kingdom of HRH Prince Salman Bahrain.
