A Dystopian tale
A NEW addition to the Hunger Games book series, entitled Sunrise on the Reaping, by Suzanne Collins is out on shelves. Taking place in Panem, a North American country consisting of a wealthy Capitol and 13 districts, the dystopian second prequel also revolves around the life-or-death competition, where 'tributes' fight until one remains. The latest release tackles the 50th annual Hunger Games from the perspective of Haymitch Abernathy from District 12, who wishes to live a simple life. However, his dreams are shattered when he is called to participate in the deadly game. 'With Sunrise on the Reaping, I was inspired by (Scottish philosopher) David Hume's idea of implicit submission and, in his words, 'the easiness with which the many are governed by the few',' Suzanne wrote on her website. 'The story also lent itself to a deeper dive into the use of propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question 'Real or not real?' seems more pressing to me every day,' she added. The main Hunger Games book trilogy rose to popularity following its film adaptations released from 2012 to 2015. They were followed by the 2023 film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, based on the namesake prequel book released in 2020.

Prince William reveals Aston Villa superstitions
Prince William revealed yesterday that he is such a superstitious Aston Villa supporter that he often resorts to shuffling his children around his house to help bring the team a change of luck. The 42-year-old eldest son and heir of the UK's head of state, King Charles III, also admitted he often posts his football opinions anonymously on fan forums. "If I'm home alone with the children, I probably don't have the prematch pint but I do have a bit of superstition about where I sit when I'm watching them," he told The Sun. " If we're not doing very well, I start moving round the house quite quickly and I put the children in different positions hoping that's going to change our luck." William w a s at Villa Park on Wednesday to see Unai Emery's team qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals, beating Club Brugge 3-0 to seal a 6-1 win on aggregate. He said he became a fan of the Birmingham-based club after being taken to matches by family friends when he was younger. "With the camaraderie among the fans and the chanting and the singing, I just felt like I belonged there," he explained. "The rise of the smartphone" made him even more invested. He told The Sun: "I'd grown up looking at Ceefax on the television or the back pages of newspapers and if you didn't have those to hand you were a bit out of the loop." "I like going on the forums, I can be on there for ages. I listen to what other fans have to say and give them my opinions. I get quite into it, definitely. It's important to have that debate."
