Baby joy for judo star given only 1 per cent chance of survival after horror crash
A judo star who was given a one per cent chance of survival after a horror road incident in Vietnam has revealed her joy at becoming a mother.
Stephanie Inglis, 36, was left fighting for life after being dragged along a road when her skirt became caught in a taxi bike.
She made a full recovery but had to give up the sport after the accident in May 2016.
Nine years on she has reflected on her life and told of her joy at becoming a mum to her son Jacob in February.
Ms Inglis, who won a silver medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, said: 'It's hard to put into words how deeply grateful I am to still be here. That experience changed everything.
'It reminded me how fragile life is and how powerful the human spirit can be. I wake up each day with a heart full of gratitude and absolutely no regrets.'
Ms Inglis, of Dunfermline, Fife, had a titanium plate inserted into her head in an operation to replace the bone removed by doctors after the accident.
They removed it to relieve the pressure on her brain after she fractured her skull and broke her neck in two places.
A fundraising page saw £327,000 pledged to fly her home to Scotland in a specialist air ambulance.
Ms Inglis, who was given just a one percent chance of survival, defied death and married husband Ally Morrison in 2022.
The pair said they were 'grateful, lucky and happy' as they started an 'amazing new chapter' of their lives with the birth of their son and that watching their 'beautiful prince' grow had been an 'absolute blessing' for them.
Ms Inglis added: 'I wouldn't be where I am now without the support I received during my darkest hours. Family, friends, doctors, even strangers-you all held me up when I couldn't stand on my own.
'Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. If there's one thing I've learned, it's this: don't be afraid to speak up.
'If you need help, ask. If you can help someone else, do it. We're not meant to go through life alone.'
Social media users offered their support to her.
One said: 'You are an amazing woman and it has been wonderful to follow your recovery and next chapter, I too was one of those strangers who prayed for your recovery and gave to get you home.
'Thank you for your gratitude and taking time to update us on your next steps. It's been a Joy to see you flourish.'
Another wrote: 'You're a true warrior Steph and an absolute inspiration to so so many and what a role model for that bonnie wee lad of yours. Proud to say I know you.'

And Collard was proud as punch of his other half for going back to work after just over three months. He proudly shared a snap of Woods in action from his hospital bed after having back surgery. He wrote: "Now watching my girl from the bed on her first day back. "Proud of her after only 13 weeks getting back into the mix. "And I can't tell you how much she's been my rock throughout this whole injury, process and the last six months in general on all fronts."

Sir Chris Hoy reveals he is competing in race event at iconic Le Mans track to prove 'life goes on' - amid Olympic legend's stage four cancer diagnosis
Sir Chris Hoy has revealed that he is competing in the long Le Mans Invitational race to 'show that life goes on' for people with terminal cancer. The legendary cyclist, 49, was diagnosed with Stage four terminal prostate cancer in September 2023 following a routine check on a shoulder strain showed a tumour, before a further scan revealed the primary cancer to be in his prostate which had spread to his bones. This weekend he will take part in the Dark Horse Stars class of the Mustang Challenge alongside ex-Top Gear presenter Chris Harris, as part of the Le Mans car invtiational race. The six-time Olympic gold medallist first said he was having cancer treatment last February before he made the prognosis public in October, adding he only had two to four years to live despite undergoing chemotherapy. Hoy, an 11-time world champion, said his diagnosis was 'terrifying'. He told TNT Sports: 'I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer almost two years ago now, and it shocked me, it rocked my world. 'It changed everything in one sentence, you're told that's not curable, but it's treatable. 'So suddenly, you have this death sentence, and it's terrifying, but I'm here to show that life goes on for many people in that situation.' The former cyclist, who became Scotland's most succesful Olympian in 2008, took part in Le Mans proper in 2016, finishing 18th in the 60 car race. He admitted it was 'unlike anything else' he had experienced in sport. 'It's always been the endurance event. If you get the chance as an amateur driver, this is the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake, this is the big one,' he said. 'I still pinch myself that I got to do it, when you watch on TV or come to watch it live, I still can't quite believe I was out there, elbows out with the big boys. Last month Hoy revealed that he is 'feeling good' and has entered a 'stability stage' amid his battle with cancer. He offered a positive update on his health, admitting that cancer is not the 'first thing' he thinks about in the morning. 'I'm feeling good, exercising, riding the bike, busy and most importantly cancer is not the first thing I think about in the morning when I wake up and it's not the last thing I think about when I go to bed at night,' he said. Hoy retired in 2013 before acting as a pundit and commentator for the BBC. The father-of-two said he received the 'biggest shock' of his life after tumours were discovered in his shoulder, pelvis, hip, spine and rib. He later released a brave public statement confirming his diagnosis. 'Initially, it's not easy,' he said. 'We tried to keep it private and keep it to ourselves in the first few weeks and months, just to get our heads around the situation. 'Our hand was forced initially in that a journalist started snooping around, so we had to make an announcement that I'd been diagnosed with cancer. 'I was going through treatment at that point, through chemotherapy, but that I was doing OK and would explain more in due course. That was probably the hardest part, explaining the full situation. It was a big step but we knew it was the right thing to do. 'I think it's almost not wanting speculation. You want to be sure that the facts are out there. The less you give, the more people are going to speculate and the more the media are going to pry and maybe come up with false information.

Pressley 'in a much better place' to manage Dundee
New Dundee head coach Steven Pressley believes he has come back to Scotland better equipped to succeed than when he left for England 12 years former Dundee United defender has agreed a two-year deal at Dens Park and his appointment has had a mixed response from 51-year-old, who wore the Tangerine strip of their city rivals during his playing career, hopes the Dundee fans will give him time."It depends what lens you're looking through," Pressley said."If you look through a certain lens and you're looking for a manager with history of winning titles, then I'm not your man. "I've not demonstrated that yet. I hope I can demonstrate that in the future, but as yet I haven't done so." And he added: "But the type of skill set that Dundee were looking for, then I think I'm very much aligned to that and I've demonstrated that throughout my career."Also, I think that through growth, through my experiences at Brentford, through my learning, there's a different type of manager, a different type of leader here."After a short stint as co-manager at Hearts along with John McGlynn whilst still playing he eventually moved to Falkirk where he ended his playing career. 'Whether I'm popular or not, I have to win games' Dundee finished sixth in their first season back in the Scottish Premiership, the 2023-24 campaign, but were 10th in the most recent campaign, shortly after which Tony Docherty departed the manager's role."If you don't win games, decisions are generally made," Pressley said. "But I think that from a football club's perspective, you've got to be willing to show strength at key moments and key junctures because sometimes the success is just round the corner."You don't realise how close you are to it and that's why it's important that we have the correct evaluation models in place, that we can see the progress of the team and plot the progress of the team."Sometimes people externally, they're only looking at the result, but there might be real significant improvements in certain areas where we are very close to getting those all important results."These things are really important, but again, as I've said to you, 35 years in the game, I know how it works. Regardless if I was a popular appointment or not, I'm still going to have to win games. That's the reality of it."
