Mecca Deploys 200 Smart Screens to Monitor Pilgrim Movement During Umrah
Saudi authorities have implemented cutting-edge technology to bolster security in Mecca during the busy Umrah season, especially throughout Ramadan. The city's main Control Centre now houses more than 200 smart screens designed to monitor pilgrim movement in real time.
This high-tech control centre is pivotal in coordinating security efforts across the city, ensuring smooth pilgrim entry, movement, and exit while prioritizing crowd safety. The system enhances rapid response capabilities and supports authorities in maintaining order during this peak spiritual period.
The Control Centre oversees operations at 11 main entry points to Mecca, along with more than eight internal security checkpoints. These tasks are managed across seven distinct sectors, ensuring seamless coordination and continuous monitoring of the city's security landscape.
"All neighborhoods and districts are under continuous surveillance," said Saudi officials. Live video feeds are transmitted to the Grand Mosque's operations room, providing real-time updates to authorities. This data allows them to monitor crowd flow, identify potential issues, and adjust security plans as necessary.
Integrated with both the Grand Mosque's Security Operations Center and the Unified Operations Center (911), the Control Centre ensures instant communication between emergency and security services. Operating 24/7, this advanced hub plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and smooth flow of millions of pilgrims during the Ramadan Umrah season.

Saudi Arabia Grants Extra 30 Days for Visit Visa
Saudi authorities have extended the grace period for visit visa holders who have overstayed, granting them an additional 30 days to leave the country, the General Directorate of Passports announced. The extension, which applies to all categories of visit visas, took effect on Sunday, July 27, and is conditional on the payment of any outstanding fines and fees in line with Saudi regulations. In a statement, the directorate said that eligible individuals can request departure through the 'Tawasul' service on the Ministry of Interior's digital 'Absher' platform. Officials urged visitors to make use of the extended window to arrange their departure within the specified timeframe and avoid further penalties. The initiative, first introduced in June, aims to streamline exit procedures and promote compliance with the kingdom's residency and immigration rules. Under the policy, which came into effect on June 26, overstayers were granted a 30-day grace period to settle fines and administrative fees before leaving the country, regardless of the type or classification of their visa. The latest extension is part of Saudi Arabia's broader effort to regulate residency and ensure smoother departure processes for visitors who remain in the kingdom beyond their visa validity. The inspections are part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to verify that hospitality facilities meet all approved requirements and hold the necessary permits to operate. The initiative aligns with the ministry's broader objective to enhance service quality for visitors and pilgrims during the busy Umrah and Hajj seasons. The ministry emphasized the importance of all facilities adhering to Saudi Arabia's tourism regulations and executive bylaws. It warned that penalties for non-compliance could include fines of up to SR1 million, closure orders, or both. It also reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing these rules to improve service standards, safeguard guests, and uphold the reputation of Makkah as a premier religious tourism destination.
