How A Kabaddi Match Sparked Spat Between Sidhu Moose Wala And Lawrence Bishnoi Gang
Last Updated:
Brar claimed that match-fixing and gangster influence were common, and Moose Wala's presence at the rival-organised event was seen as betrayal
A local kabaddi match in Punjab sparked the first serious spat between Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala and Lawrence Bishnoi's gang, revealed gangster Goldy Brar in the new BBC documentary ' The Killing Call '.
Brar, who is currently wanted by Indian authorities, told the BBC that the 'first dispute" with Moose Wala began shortly after the singer returned to India. The trigger, he said, was a kabaddi tournament promoted by Moose Wala in a village linked to the rival Bambiha gang.
'That's a village our rivals come from. He was promoting our rivals. That's when Lawrence and others were upset with him," Brar told the British outlet. 'They threatened Sidhu and said they wouldn't spare him."
Kabaddi, a high-contact sport deeply rooted in rural Punjab, has long had ties to local gang culture. Brar claimed that match-fixing and gangster influence were common, and Moose Wala's presence at the rival-organised event was seen as betrayal. Moose Wala was shot dead in 2022 in broad daylight.
The tension escalated when Moose Wala chose to perform at the tournament, despite alleged warnings. An anonymous music associate in the documentary said a gangster named Mandeep Dhaliwal, affiliated with the Bambiha gang, had invited Moose Wala to the match.
Though the matter was briefly settled through Vicky Middukhera, an associate of Bishnoi, things took a darker turn when Middukhera was shot dead in Mohali in 2021. The Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the murder, and Moose Wala's close aide, Shaganpreet Singh, was named in the police charge sheet for allegedly helping the attackers. Singh later fled to Australia. Moose Wala denied any involvement and was never formally linked to the killing by police.
'We wanted him to face punishment for what he'd done. He should have been booked. He should have been jailed. But nobody listened to our plea," he added.
Brar said that after losing faith in the legal system, they decided to take justice into their own hands. 'When decency falls on deaf ears, it's the gunshot that gets heard," he said.
Asked how he justified vigilante justice, Brar responded: 'Law. Justice. There's no such thing. Only the powerful can… [obtain] justice, not ordinary people like us."

(Also read: Diljit Dosanjh beats Zendaya and Rihanna to top Best Dressed poll at Met Gala 2025; Shah Rukh Khan not on list) On June 11, 2025, Diljit was invited as a special speaker at NXNE in Toronto's TIFF Lightbox, marking the launch of the Billboard Summit in Canada. In what is being touted as a first for an Indian artist, the Born to Shine hitmaker sat down for a conversation with Panos A Panay, President of the Recording Academy, the organisation behind the Grammy Awards. A snippet from the interaction was shared by Diljit's team on their official Instagram handle. Panos, referring to Diljit's now-iconic Met Gala car moment with Shakira and Nicole Scherzinger, asked, 'You know, you've collaborated with Sia. This morning I was watching your video with Ed Sheeran. Rumour has it that you carpooled with Shakira. I'm curious how you see these collaborations from an artistic point of view too.' A post shared by TEAM DOSANJH (@teamdiljitglobal) To this, Diljit replied, "Hips don't lie, sir..." making the crowd applaud, adding, 'She invited me on her tour and suggested I do an Indian version of Hips Don't Lie. It's going to be tricky, but I'm sure I'll find it.' Diljit's team also shared a video of him speaking about his connection with his Indian roots and representing them globally. "Like for me, being a part of Punjabi culture, I feel blessed, first of all, and I'm very thankful to my mother tongue, who chose me to spread his fragrance to this, on the global stage. Every culture has a different fragrance, like from here, it's a different culture, and it's very beautiful, I think. Every culture has a different fragrance. I think for, my saying is, for new artists, carry your culture. If you want to stand out in front of this world, use that fragrance," he said. A post shared by TEAM DOSANJH (@teamdiljitglobal) Earlier this year, Diljit left fans speechless with his Met Gala debut. Representing his Sikh identity with pride, he walked the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in traditional Indian attire, a turban, kurta, and tehmat, all designed by Indian fashion designer Prabal Gurung. The look won hearts for its elegance, culture, and symbolism. But what truly made headlines was a behind-the-scenes moment, a fun video posted by his team showing Diljit chilling in a luxury car with Shakira and Nicole Scherzinger. In the clip, Shakira excitedly introduces him to her fans, calling out "Diljit! Diljit!" while he responds with a warm namaste gesture. She then smiles into the camera and says, "Hi to India." Another picture shared by Diljit's team on their Instagram handle from the evening showed the trio posing together at an exclusive dinner hosted by Anna Wintour. (ANI)

State renews pledge to end child labour
Patna: On the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour, symbolic cheques for Rs 25,000 were distributed among children rescued from child labour as financial support from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The programme, organised by the department of labour resources, was aimed at raising awareness and reaffirm the state's commitment to ending child exploitation. Deepak Anand, secretary of the department, said around 30 children had been rescued so far in the 2025-26 financial year. In the previous years, 1,319 children were rescued in 2023-24 and 1,148 in 2024-25. He added that the department recovers Rs 20,000 from offending employers and deposits the amount into the Child Labour Rehabilitation-cum-Welfare Fund. The state govt contributes an additional Rs 5,000 per rescued child to strengthen the rehabilitation process. Each child also receives Rs 25,000 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to secure their future. "World Day Against Child Labour reminds us that there should be no place for child labour in a civilised society. It is a social crime and curbing it is every citizen's moral duty. We must work together to provide education, health and a dignified life to such children," Anand said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo He added that strike forces have been formed to rescue children and raise awareness across the state. He said children are a nation's most valuable asset and their well-being reflects the social and economic development of society. "The roots of child labour lie in poverty, illiteracy and social inequality, which perpetuate a generational cycle of exploitation and deprivation," he said. He reminded the gathering that, under Indian law, employing children under 14 or adolescents aged 14-18 in hazardous workplaces can result in a fine between Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000, imprisonment from six months to two years, or both. Repeat offenders face rigorous imprisonment of up to three years. Labour enforcement officers and superintendents were honoured during the programme for their work. The secretary commended their collaboration, which he said had contributed significantly to eliminating child labour. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
