ASUS overclocker pushes 9995WX to 5.95GHz and breaks eight world records

AMD's new Threadripper Pro 9995WX is already proving itself to be the most powerful workstation CPU available.
The top-end offering in the freshly launched Threadripper 9000 series, the 9995WX features 96 cores, 192 threads, a 2.5GHz base clock, and boost speeds up to 5.4GHz.
It also supports 144 usable PCIe Gen5 lanes, 128MB of L3 cache, and 8-channel DDR5 ECC memory at up to 6400MT/s.
Breaking records
Now on sale, priced at an eye-watering $11,699 at Amazon and Newegg, the 9995WX is technically designed for high-end workstations, but it has already become a popular choice in the extreme overclocking scene.
Using liquid nitrogen and an ASUS Pro WS WRX90E-SAGE SE motherboard, ASUS overclocking team member CENS pushed the chip to nearly 6GHz across all 96 cores, reaching a Cinebench R23 score of 227,817, which is an all-time world record.
The CPU was cooled to -47°C during the session and powered by a 2,000W PSU.
Clock speeds held steady between 5,746MHz and 5,950MHz, allowing the chip to maintain full-core stability under sustained loads.
That performance beat the previous record of 210,000 points set by AMD's earlier 7995WX chip, and positions the 9995WX firmly at the top of the HEDT segment.
In total, the 9995WX was part of eight new world records and first-place benchmark results across Cinebench, Geekbench, 7-Zip, HWBOT x265, and Y-cruncher.
ASUS overclockers CENS, OGS, SEBY, and others all used the same chip to take top spots in both global and hardware categories.
The 9995WX may be aimed at professionals, but its unlocked design and massive core count also make it a showcase for what current desktop CPU engineering can achieve.
Matched with a high-end board and liquid nitrogen cooling, ASUS demonstrates just how hard a workstation processor can be pushed.

OpenAI is removing a feature that lets users put ChatGPT activity on search engines. The opt-in feature was a "short-lived experiment" that'll be gone by Friday, CISO Dane Stuckey said. The feature made it easier for users to accidentally share things they didn't mean to, Stuckey said. OpenAI quickly rolled back a new feature that allowed users to make private conversations with ChatGPT "discoverable" after the launch was marred by concerns of accidental oversharing. "We just removed a feature from @ChatGPTapp that allowed users to make their conversations discoverable by search engines, such as Google," Dane Stuckey, OpenAI's chief information security officer, announced via social media post on Thursday. He described the opt-in feature as "a short-lived experiment to help people discover useful conversations," but added that the company removed it in part because of OpenAI's focus on "security and privacy." "Ultimately we think this feature introduced too many opportunities for folks to accidentally share things they didn't intend to, so we're removing the option," Stuckey's post said. "We're also working to remove indexed content from the relevant search engines. This change is rolling out to all users through tomorrow morning." The rollback came shortly after newsletter writer Luiza Jarovsky posted on X earlier in the day that sensitive conversations with ChatGPT were being made public. When using the chatbot's sharing feature, Jarovsky wrote that users were opening up their exchanges to being indexed by Google. The feature required users to take steps to share their conversations — including ticking a box to "make this chat discoverable," and indicated it would "be shown in web searches." Chats made public were anonymized, reducing the risk that someone may be personally identified by their conversations with the bot. Still, users responding to Jarovsky's posts highlighted the concern that some people may absent-mindedly check the box to share without reading the fine print, opening themselves up to sharing embarrassing or private information. In her initial X post, Jarovsky found examples of users discussing their fears with ChatGPT. Her comments were filled with more personal examples, from discussions of harassment to makeshift therapy sessions. NFL games will look slightly different this season, and fans got their first glimpse at the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday. The NFL announced in April it will begin using Sony's Hawk-Eye technology as the primary way to measure the line to gain, rather than the chain system that has been in place for decades. Much like its usage in baseball and tennis, the technology uses six 8K cameras to judge the ball's position on the field. The chain crew will remain on the field in a secondary capacity." While the league initially announced it would keep a traditional chain crew in reserve for games, referee Shawn Smith told reporters on Thursday there would be no chains between down markers for the Hall of Fame game. The replacement of chains with cameras is unlikely to improve the accuracy of these calls, as the spotting of the ball by officials has always been the bigger issue when trying to figure out if a runner got enough distance for a first down. The chains were actually pretty good at telling officials how long 10 yards is. Rather, the virtual measurements are intended to save time, with decisions reached in seconds rather than making everyone wait for the officials to drag the chain out to midfield. We'll see how much fans notice as the regular season begins, with the opener scheduled for Sept. 4.
