MICKY VAN DE VEN has revealed the tragically heartwarming story behind his Tottenham shirt number.
The Dutch defender, 24, has endured mixed fortunes since joining Spurs from Wolfsburg for £42million in 2023.

Van den Ven quickly established himself as a key player in Ange Postecoglou's bizarre tactical system.
But the giant centre-back, who is also blessed with rapid speed, has since suffered numerous injury problems.
And as a result, he has played just 49 times across two seasons.
Despite the setbacks, Van de Ven remains a popular figure with Tottenham fans.
He is hoping to reward their faith when Spurs take on Manchester United in Wednesday's all-English Europa League final.
And his popularity is only sure to increase after he revealed the meaning behind his shirt number.
Van de Ven wears the No37 for the north Londoners – an unusual choice for any first-team star, let alone a defender.
However, the 10-time Dutch international has now explained that he chose the number in tribute to a deceased friend.
Van de Ven revealed that when he was just 15 years old, his best friend tragically passed away.
The number 37 had been his pal's favourite number since a young age.

And therefore the decision to select it as his Spurs squad number came easily to Van de Ven.
The star explained: 'When I was 15 years old, my best friend Dimitri passed away. He was really sick and I always promised to make him proud.
'He was the person I always played football with, so the day before he passed away I promised him I was going to make sure I became a professional football player.
'When I made this beautiful transfer to Tottenham, they said, 'These are the numbers you can pick for your shirt'.
'Number 37 was there, it was Dimitri's favourite number when he was younger. So straight away I knew 37 had to be my number here.'

Allegations of rape and harassment at one of Britain's most prestigious rowing clubs have been described as 'deeply concerning' by Sport England and UK Sport. 'These are deeply concerning allegations regarding both behaviours and cultures, and our thoughts are with those who have been impacted,' it said. 'It is vital that sports clubs are safe and welcoming, and that all issues are investigated swiftly and properly. 'We encourage any individual who has experienced such behaviour to report directly to the police. Sport England has raised this matter with British Rowing, and we will continue to monitor the situation.' A similar message was conveyed by UK Sport, which funds elite sport across Great Britain and Northern Ireland. 'Our thoughts are with those affected by the allegations which have recently been reported, and we take matters of integrity and safeguarding extremely seriously,' it said. 'We encourage any member of staff or athlete on Olympic and Paralympic performance programmes to report allegations of unacceptable behaviour to Sport Integrity, the confidential reporting line. In light of these deeply concerning allegations, we are in contact with British Rowing.' In a statement, the Leander Club said it took seriously all issues relating to the safeguarding its athletes. 'We have strict procedures in place to carefully examine any formal complaints and regularly review our club disciplinary processes to ensure they are fit for purpose, treating our athletes fairly and with respect,' it added. A British Rowing spokesperson said it was not able to comment on individual safeguarding concerns and processes conducted at clubs owing to their confidential nature. 'As such there is a very limited amount that we can say when we are approached in connection with issues that fall into this category,' it added. 'What we are able to say categorically is that the safety of people taking part in our sport is the very first item of importance on our agenda. We investigate anything reported to us fully and comprehensively, as you would expect and as it is our remit to do. This would have been the case if sufficient information had been raised with us to conduct an investigation in respect of the raised allegations.'
