Hamas says Israel wants to keep military control of Gaza
The indirect negotiations in the Qatari capital Doha are now in their second week, with the future presence of Israeli troops in the Palestinian territory a key issue.
The group wants a full withdrawal and last week rejected an Israeli proposal which it said would have kept troops in more than 40 percent of Gaza.
Gaza mediators 'intensifying' efforts to reach deal in Doha
Israeli public broadcaster Kan on Wednesday quoted a foreign official it did not identify as saying that work was ongoing to revise Israeli pullback maps.
But Bassem Naim, a member of Hamas's political bureau, told AFP: '(Israel) has not yet delivered any new or revised maps regarding military withdrawals from the Gaza Strip.
'The entire Gaza Strip is currently under the military control of (Israel). What is happening on the ground confirms (Israel's) intentions and plans to maintain and prolong military control within the Gaza Strip for the long term.
'It also confirms the occupation's unwillingness to withdraw from the Strip or to stop the war, contrary to what the occupation claims in the ongoing negotiations in Doha and contrary to what it tells the mediators.'
Israel, which wants Hamas neutralised as a fighting force, has accused the group of inflexibility but on Tuesday mediator Qatar said there was 'no stalemate' and no set timeframe for the talks.

Last week, Russia had slammed a story by US news outlet Axios citing anonymous sources that said Putin had 'encouraged' Iran to accept a deal with the United States that would prevent the Islamic republic from enriching uranium. Iran has consistently denied seeking a nuclear weapon, while defending its 'legitimate rights' to the peaceful use of atomic energy.

Trump insists Iran nuclear sites destroyed amid reports some survived
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump on Saturday insisted that US bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities 'completely destroyed' the sites after a report said that some had largely survived. On his Truth Social platform, Trump reiterated his frequent claim that 'all three nuclear sites in Iran were completely destroyed and/or OBLITERATED.' He said it would 'take years to bring them back into service and, if Iran wanted to do so, they would be much better off starting anew, in three different locations.' US bomb and missile attacks struck Iran's controversial nuclear program on June 22, hitting the uranium enrichment facility at Fordo, south of Tehran, as well as nuclear sites in Isfahan and Natanz. The bombings, carried out at the same time as an Israeli campaign against Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure, were billed by Washington as a knockout blow to a years-long covert effort to build nuclear weapons. Iran insists it has not tried to weaponize its civilian nuclear power program. Despite Trump's claims of total success, several US media outlets have reported leaked intelligence suggesting a hazier picture. The latest to cast doubt was an NBC News report Friday, quoting a military damage assessment that only one of the three sites was mostly destroyed. Two other sites were deemed to be repairable and potentially able to resume uranium enrichment activities within 'the next several months,' NBC reported, citing five current and former US officials aware of the assessment. NBC also reported that the Pentagon had prepared an option to inflict far greater damage on Iran's facilities through a bombing campaign that would have lasted several weeks — not the one-night operation chosen by Trump.

Pope urges immediate end to ‘barbarity' of Gaza war
CASTEL GANDOLFO, (Italy): Pope Leo XIV slammed the 'barbarity' of the war in Gaza on Sunday and urged against the 'indiscriminate use of force', just days after a deadly strike by Israel's military on a Catholic church. 'I once again ask for an immediate end to the barbarity of the war and for a peaceful resolution to the conflict,' Leo said at the end of the Angelus prayer at Castel Gandolfo, the papal summer residence near Rome. The pope, who spoke by telephone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the morning after Thursday's strike, spoke of his 'deep sorrow' for the attack on the Holy Family Church. The church was sheltering around 600 displaced people, the majority of them children and including dozens of people with special needs. Israel expressed 'deep sorrow' over the damage and civilian casualties, adding that the military was investigating the strike. 'This act, unfortunately, adds to the ongoing military attacks against the civilian population and places of worship in Gaza,' Leo said on Sunday. 'I appeal to the international community to observe humanitarian law and respect the obligation to protect civilians, as well as the prohibition of collective punishment, the indiscriminate use of force, and the forced displacement of populations,' he added. The Israeli military on Sunday issued an evacuation order for Palestinians in the central Gaza Strip, warning of imminent action against Hamas militants. Most of Gaza's population of more than two million people have been displaced at least once during the war, which is now in its 22nd month. The pope also expressed his 'sympathy' for the plight of 'beloved Middle Eastern Christians' and their 'sense of being able to do little in the face of this dramatic situation'.
