FWSSR Jumping Classic Show and Rodeo Grand Prix raises funds to combat animal abuse

CBS News26-01-2025
FORT WORTH – The Jumping Classic Show and Rodeo Grand Prix debuted at the Will Rogers Coliseum on Sunday as part of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
Dozens of riders showed off their skills at the inaugural event, including 12-year-old Danica Davis.
"I really like the adrenaline in jumping," said Davis, who didn't horse around and maintained her focus during the event. "You have to figure out where to go and to find the right distance and stuff like making sure that your stride is the right stride for the job."
Riders like Davis are not only jumping high into their future goals; they are also helping animals in need.
The event benefits the Saving Hope Foundation, which was founded by Gloria Moncrief and her mother to reduce animal abuse and neglect.
"About 12 years ago, we found Hope the dog, a pug mix running around on our ranch in the middle of July," Moncrief said. "She had been stabbed over a dozen times, and her mouth was taped shut by electrical tape, and she was running for her life."
The non-profit even had its own obstacle on the course.
"The riders will go around the course and jump as high as they can and go as fast as they can, and the winner is the person that is the fastest, but also clears the course, which means not knocking over any poles on the jump or falling off," Moncrief said.
District 7 Fort Worth Councilwoman Macy Hill said the city worked together to bring the new event to life. She added that five invitational classes bring a different jumping style to the arena.
"This is a preview of the World Cup that the Sports Commission in the city of Fort Worth is bringing to Will Rogers in April of 2026," Hill said. "Traditionally, the rodeo is a Western discipline, and we're able to showcase English discipline, particularly showjumping."

Packers waive injured rookie Jalen White to make room for addition at RB

The Green Bay Packers signed running back Tyrion Davis-Price before Tuesday's practice, and now we know the corresponding roster move: the team waived rookie running back Jalen White with an injury designation. White, an undrafted rookie out of Georgia Southern, injured his foot during the Packers' preseason loss to the New York Jets and wasn't available to practice Monday. The Packers are light on numbers at running back entering two big events this week and likely needed a healthy body at the position. Israel Abanikanda didn't practice Tuesday because of a new hamstring injury, while Emanuel Wilson (knee) and MarShawn Lloyd (groin) only just returned to practice in 11-on-11 periods on Tuesday. The Packers go to Indianapolis this week to have a joint practice and preseason game with the Colts. A two-time All-Sun Belt pick, White rushed for over 3,000 yards and scored 36 rushing touchdowns at Georgia Southern. He signed with the Packers following the 2025 NFL draft. A player who is waived with an injury designation reverts back to the team's injured reserve list if unclaimed on waivers. At that point, the Packers and White can determine if an injury settlement is the right option. Davis-Price gives the Packers an experienced running back who could handle snaps right away. A third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, Davis-Price has played in eight NFL regular season games. He spent last season with the Philadelphia Eagles and was with the Tennessee Titans earlier this offseason.

Thunder star Chet Holmgren mercilessly trolled over attire to Alex Caruso's wedding: ‘Elvis impersonator'

Chet Holmgren's attire that he wore to the wedding of his OKC teammate Alex Caruso and 'Big Brother' alum Haleigh Broucher raised some eyebrows Saturday in Houston. The 7-foot power forward stood out wearing an all-white checkered suit with a maroon dress shirt, sunglasses and gold chains. After photos from the couple's wedding made social media rounds, Holmgren received some flack for his ensemble, as the bride traditionally wears white in Western cultures. Man United offered chance to sign another Bayern Munich defender

Manchester United are considering a repeat of last summer's transfer plan as the club weighs up a move for yet another Bayern Munich defender, according to a report from Germany. Twice bitten, not shy Matthijs de Ligt, 26, and Noussair Mazraoui, 27, were signed in a joint raid on the Allianz Arena last year to reunite the pair with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, having both previously played for the Dutch manager with Ajax. Their combined fee totalled over £60 million with add-ons – an expensive outlay but a reasonable one given the pair's experience at the highest level in European football relative to their respective ages. Both De Ligt and Mazraoui are primed for important roles this season, despite Ten Hag having been replaced by Ruben Amorim in November, as the former Sporting manager's 3-4-2-1 system employs an extra central defender – a role both players are comfortable fulfilling. De Ligt has primarily operated as the central centre-back in this system (CCB) and the Dutchman offers more athleticism than his competitor for the position, Harry Maguire. Mazraoui, typically a fullback throughout his career, has often played as one of the two centre-backs on the outside, though the Morocco international can also play as a wing-back. But United are reported to be considering a move for another Bayern defender with France international Dayot Upamecano 'on their radar,' according to Christian Falk. Upamecano on the radar Upamecano, 26, is a central defender with outstanding athleticism and high levels of technical ability. He he won multiple trophies with Bayern as well as the World Cup with France in 2018. Speaking to German outlet CFBayern, Falk reveals the 'Red Devils have included the 26-year-old on their list of priorities, as his contract is set to expire next summer.' The Bundesliga expert states Upamecano's agent, Moussa Sissoko, has 'offered his client to Premier League clubs' with 'interest' from United. 'Bayern are pushing hard to reach an agreement with Upamecano over a new deal, but as of now, there has been little or no progress. The negotiations are dragging on for a long time, and it is leaving Bayern frustrated, as surely they do not want another Leroy Sane saga to unfold.' Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is reported to consider Upamecano a key part of his starting eleven alongside new signing Jonathan Tah, so it remains to be seen whether INEOS can prise another defensive jewel from Die Roten to join Amorim's revolution at Old Trafford.
