The Star2 days ago
PETALING JAYA: Key Asic Bhd has secured 21 granted patents across key international jurisdictions, including the United States, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore.
The company, a specialist in advanced application-specific integrated circuit (Asic) and system-on-chip (SoC) design solutions, reported that in addition, 19 more patent applications are pending approval, which it said underscores its innovative drive.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Key Asic said the patents spanned critical advancements in Internet of Things (IoT), storage technologies, wireless security, and intellectual properties (IPs) – essential building blocks for high-performance and power-efficient chips.
It pointed out that such IPs are a tangible revenue engine, on top of being a badge of technical prowess.
Historically, the group said the portfolio had generated income through diverse channels: licensing agreements with global semiconductor giants, technology transfer, joint development projects, embedded IP sales integrated into comprehensive Asic and SoC contracts.
'The patents cover cutting-edge advancements in IoT, storage technologies, wireless security, and analog IPs – core components that enable high-performance, power-efficient Asics and SoCs,' the company said.
It added that the IPs had allowed it to customise solutions for clients, contributing significantly to revenue.

Bursa Malaysia opens little changed on Friday ahead of GDP data, flat trading on Wall St

KUALA LUMPUR: Investors on Bursa Malaysia held their positions on Friday as the flattish performance on US markets overnight gave little indication on trading direction. The local bourse entered profit-taking mode yesterday as investors cashed in on a seven-day winning streak, but remained little moved at Friday's opening, ahead of Malaysia's economic report due out at noon. Traders snapped up equities over the past two weeks as risk appetite was buoyed by the continuation of US-China trade talks and investors' surging hopes for a US rate cut after a lower-than-expected inflation report. Throwing a spannar in the works, however, was the US producer's price index for July, which showed a 0.9% increase - above the 0.2% forecast by economists - which pointed to rising inflation. As at 9.10am, domestic traders remained uncertain in the absence of trading direction. The FBM KLCI was down 0.45 points to 1,580.6 while the broader market had a nearly even spread of advancers and decliners. "The local benchmark index is expected to extend its profit-taking consolidation phase, as market sentiment should remain subdued while investors await crucial domestic and U.S. data releases ahead of the weekend," said TA Securities in its daily review. Meanwhile, Rakuten Trade said in a note that foreign funds remained net sellers of local equities, which serves as a market dampener. "For today, we expect the index to hover between the 1,575-1,585 range," it added. In early trading, PETRONAS Chemicals dropped seven sne to RM3.57 while PPB shed seven sen to RM8.94 and IOI fell four sen to RM3.81. Nestle gained 26 sen to RM88.06, while PETRONAS Gas rose six sen to RM18.76 and MISC added five sen to RM7.81. Leading actives included TWL flat at 2.5 sen, Oxford Innotech up 0.5 sen to 41.5 sen and Oriental Kopi dipping one sen to 97.5 sen.

Keyfield's 2Q25 net profit dips

The company's revenue dropped to RM131.97mil from RM198.98mil a year earlier. PETALING JAYA: Keyfield International Bhd aims to diversify its fleet of vessels to be able to serve different industries, with a longer-term objective of increasing the non-oil and gas sector to contribute up to 20% of total revenue. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the company said this augurs well for its prospects and sustainability as well as to weather any downturn in any one sector. For the second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2Q25), Keyfield's net profit dipped to RM66.36mil from RM70mil in the previous corresponding quarter. Revenue dropped to RM131.97mil from RM198.98mil a year earlier. 'The decrease in revenue for own-vessels was mainly due to the lower number of chartered days in 2Q25, representing 74.6% utilisation rate for our own vessels during this period, as compared to 96.9% in 2Q24,' it said.

MNRB's 1Q25 revenue rises to RM976mil

MNRB's first-quarter net profit surged to RM168.43mil from RM92.20mil previously. PETALING JAYA: MNRB Holdings Bhd expects Malaysia's reinsurance and retakaful industry to sustain its growth trajectory in 2026, driven by regulatory enhancements, growing demand for financial protection and supportive government framework. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the wholesale providers of reinsurance and retakaful said Malaysia's current tariff exposure and constructive trade policies continue to support its competitiveness amid global trade challenges. For its first quarter ended June 30, 2025 (1Q25), MNRB's net profit surged to RM168.43mil from RM92.20mil, while revenue during the quarter rose to RM975.56mil from RM857.58mil a year earlier. 'This improvement was mainly driven by stronger insurance/takaful service results, supported by higher insurance/takaful revenue and lower insurance/takaful service expenses arising from better claims experience in the reinsurance business. 'The performance was further strengthened by higher net investment income, primarily from net fair value gains in equities and bonds following the rebound in Malaysian investment markets,' it said.
