MIRI (June 15): Constructive and skills-based programmes are crucial intervention tools in the rising youth involvement in drug-related issues.
This was highlighted by Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang when met after a visit to the Domino Academy here recently, where he praised the academy for offering impactful initiatives in financial literacy, community service, entrepreneurship, and soft skills training.
'All these would further position the academy as a crucial force in building socially-conscious future leaders.
'Have faith in what you do, remain humble, and always serve with sincerity. Leadership begins with values and a sense of responsibility to the community.
'Real development is not just about running programmes, but about shaping a generation that leads with integrity, compassion and conviction,' he said in a brief remark.
The visit underscored the state's commitment to youth development and showcased how collaboration between community leaders and local organisations such as Domino Academy could create impactful change at the grassroots level.
During his visit, Billy handed over a Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation of RM31,311 to the Miri Domino Charity Association.
The grant was meant to support the 'Experiential Leadership and Entrepreneurship Bootcamp' slated for this Aug 23-24 in Kuching.
The programme would focus on practical learning and values-based leadership, and targets youths from the Opar constituency.
Also present were the association's vice president Sim Poh Giap, secretary Zoel Tan, committee member Albert Lawrence as well as the academy's trainees and interns. Billy Sujang Domino Academy drugs lead youth

MIRI (Aug 10): The BEM Immanuel Permyjaya Church charity sale, held yesterday at the community basketball court in Bandar Baru Permyjaya, was a lively affair that drew strong support from church members and local residents. Organised to raise funds for the church's development, the charity sale also earned praise from state Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who officiated the event as guest of honour. Pavilion KL rated five stars, a must-visit for Chinese tourists

KUALA LUMPUR: Pavilion Kuala Lumpur has been rated the highest 5-star mall on Dianping, China's largest lifestyle and review site, and is the only mall in Peninsular Malaysia to receive the platform's Popular Stores in the Shopping Mall 2025 award. The accolade from Dianping, often called the "Yelp of China", names the mall as a must-visit destination for Chinese travellers, who contributed over RM31 billion to Malaysia's tourism receipts in 2024. The award is based on millions of reviews and ratings from Dianping's 400 million users, recognising malls that deliver exceptional retail, dining and lifestyle experiences. Pavilion KL chief executive officer (Retail) Datuk Joyce Yap said the mall stood out among Chinese visitors for its curated mix of global brands, signature events and immersive cultural attractions. "Chinese travellers are among our most discerning visitors and this accolade reflects our unwavering commitment to crafting extraordinary retail and lifestyle experiences. "From first-time visitors discovering Malaysia to loyal patrons who call Pavilion their favourite destination, we ensure every visit is nothing short of exceptional," Yap said in a statement. Since opening in 2007, Pavilion KL has expanded beyond traditional retail into a cultural and lifestyle hub, earning 60 local and international awards, including from the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Malaysia Shopping Malls Association.

Hartalega's Q1FY25 Profit Drops 60% To RM12 Million

For the current quarter ended 30 June 2025 (Q1FY26), Hartalega recorded revenue of RM553 million, representing a decrease of RM31 million or 5% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year (Q1FY25). The decline was primarily due to a 5% reduction in average selling prices (ASP). In addition, lower sales volume across key markets further impacted revenue, mainly driven by front-loaded inventories held by U.S. customers, deferred orders in response to ongoing tariff developments, and continued pricing pressures in non-U.S. markets, particularly from intensified competition mainly from Chinese manufacturers. The Group reported an operating profit of RM7.7 million for the quarter, a decrease of RM26.9 million compared to Q1FY25. This decline was largely attributable to the lower ASP, the strengthening of Ringgit Malaysia, and less favourable cost absorption resulting from lower capacity utilisation. As a result, the Group registered a profit after tax of RM12 million, down RM19 million from RM31 million in Q1FY25. The higher profit relative to operating profit was mainly due to gains from the disposal of assets at the Bestari Jaya facility.
