"Sebastião was more than one of the best photographers of our time," Instituto Terra said in a statement.
"His lense revealed the world and its contradictions; his life, (brought) the power of transformative action."
Salgado's life and work were portrayed in the 2014 documentary film "The Salt of the Earth", co-directed by Wim Wenders and his son, Juliano Ribeiro Salgado.

The 14 Best Sweet Vanilla Perfumes To Channel Taylor Swift's 'The Life Of A Showgirl'

If you're looking for a new perfume to bring you into warmer weather, your mind might automatically go to floral, fruity, or solar scents. But what about an unconventional option, like vanilla? For a long time, vanilla scents got a bad reputation. In many people's minds, vanilla perfumes are cloying, too sweet, and reminiscent of a cheap body mist from their youth. Today's best vanilla scents, however, are just the opposite. Vanilla, as we have come to view it, has been completely turned on its head. In fact, we've come into a sort of vanilla perfume renaissance, and vanilla was forecasted to be one of the biggest perfume trends of 2025. Today's best vanilla scents feature the ingredient at its best: they're smoky, leathery, woodsy, and different. They won't make someone think of a secondary school hallway - instead, prepare to be peppered with compliments from strangers. Keep reading for the best vanilla scents to try right now - these might just be the ideal unexpected summer perfumes. Gucci's first floral gourmand is a home run. It smells sugary and nostalgic, but it's still extremely wearable. The marine ozonic accord adds a hint of levity to the sweetness. Leave it to Merit to launch a debut fragrance that's both endlessly wearable and completely different. A mix of fruity notes like pear, floral notes like jasmine, herbal notes like rosemary, and gourmand notes like vanilla somehow work perfectly together. You'll immediately buy this fragrance for the gorgeous bronze packaging, but the guaranteed compliments prove its staying power. Warm and spicy notes of vanilla and musk form a cosy blanket that feels crisp like an October autumn day. Burberry Goddess is a gourmand goldmine. Featuring three vanilla notes, the scent bursts with a creamy, warm aroma that's anchored by a brush of lavender in each spritz. Kayali's Vanilla fragrance is both addictive and alluring. Equal parts creamy and seductive, the sugary scent features a mix of Brazilian tonka, Madagascar vanilla, brown sugar, and florals that leave a mark on each person you encounter. (Trust us.) YSL Libre opens as a seductive dark floral arrangement, fitting for nighttime wear. Layer by layer, each note steals the scene from a burst of juicy orange blossom to warm vanilla as it dries down. New York City is a melange of both pleasant and unpleasant smells. However, in Bond No. 9's world, the city is a golden medley of dewy florals and vanilla. Most vanilla fragrances conjure images of a fireplace, toasted chai latte, or a delicious plate of cookies. Juliette Has a Gun's Vanilla Vibes is the twist that's less sweet, more fresh and alluring. Fun fact: this scent was actually inspired by Burning Man's electric, carefree spirit blanketing the dusty desert gathering. Here's a scent that's as startling as its fire-red packaging. Blackcurrant nectar, pear, and rose add the sparkle, while vanilla and cedarwood ignite the passion. Honey and warmed rum come together in this fragrance to create something deep, hypnotic, and alluring. A hint of vanilla bean and sandalwood adds just the right amount of complexity. Sometimes, our desire to smell like a tropical holiday leaves us with limited scent options that are childish and gimmicky. Sol de Janeiro's Sol Cheirosa is the grown-up version of a fun summer day. In Sol de Janeiro's world, summer feels warm (sandalwood, vanilla), sweet (pistachio, caramel), and bright (jasmine petals). This Sephora bestseller is beloved by many for its youthful, fresh scent. The name suggests that it would veer toward deep, woodsy scents, but its pear, rose, and vanilla notes create a warm floral composition. This fragrance is described to recall 'jungle vines and good times.' It's a deep, smoky fragrance that uses real vanilla absolute to help you smell like the natural spice, not a synthetic version. Mugler's Alien Goddess offers a decadent ambience built around Madagascar vanilla. The aroma sweetens with the addition of jasmine and bergamot. 28 Modern Beauty Trends Older Women Hate

Recently, we asked the older women of the BuzzFeed Community what modern beauty, hair, and skincare trends bother them, and they had a lot to say. Here are current trends that they absolutely can't stand*. "Why do people wear pimple patches out in that draws more attention to the fact you have spots?!!" "Brazilian butt lifts." "Threads. There are better ways to stimulate collagen that don't involve putting strings in your face. Barbed threads do not work at lifting either, and it is not possible to defy the laws of physics. Source: every surgeon I've ever talked to and myself. I did them in my disaster." "Wild fingernails, especially really long ones. I'm all for taking care of nails and have nothing against a good seriously, how do you function with full-on talons? I'm just waiting for the day I see two-inch-long nails tipped with googly eyes trying to text, and it sounds like maracas." "Fake freckles." "Less invasive and permanent than the others, but I think we're all going to make fun of the 'cold girl' makeup (using blush on the nose)." "The brushed-up, thick eyebrows. Why do you want to look like a startled werewolf?" "Lip blushing. It reminds me of the white permanent eyeliner trend." "Buccal fat removal. It can look cute now, but at almost 40 now, I'm glad I had chubby cheeks for my entire youth." "Overwhelming hair extensions." "The pressure to remove all female body hair, except for that around your eyes and on top of your head, has GOT to stop! You do you, but I think that hair is there for a reason. Ridiculous how women are pressured to remove almost all of it!" Relatedly... "This isn't something I ever speak about, but I can't stand how much time, effort, and money young women put into grooming down below. Can natural be a thing again, please?" "Veneers. Our skeletons are not perfect, so why do we obsess over having 'perfect' teeth? Just go to the dentist once a year and brush your teeth twice a day. I promise your teeth will be okay." "Twenty-step skincare routines." "Ozempic." "Fake tans. Why do women want to look like orange blow-up dolls? Please! Tone it down a bit and be more subtle and natural." "I cannot believe we don't post real photos of ourselves anymore. Now, everyone's photos are completely edited by TikTok to change their face or are AI-enhanced. When did we start to feel uncomfortable with our own face?" "The overuse of highlight and contour makeup. This is already gone/going out of style, but I think people are going to look at it like I used to look at old photos of women with blue eyeshadow." "Why do women glue big, fuzzy, caterpillar-like eyelashes on their eyelids? It doesn't look natural, let alone good. I think they'll look back at pictures of themselves and think, 'Why did I ever think that was a good idea?'" "I see a lot of teeny tiny upturned noses in pictures online, so IDK how much of that is just filtering, but I think that looks very odd and will look even stranger when they're older if it's real." "The trend I find most disturbing is the obsession younger people seem to have with looking like everyone else, to an unhealthy degree. They all have the same fake-looking eyebrows, fake eyelashes, inflated lips, Botox-ed foreheads…it's sad. Perfection is often NOT what makes someone beautiful. What makes someone naturally beautiful can often be a feature that's unusual and different from everyone else. I think all the people trying to look a certain way are actually destroying their own unique looks." "I always think the 'circle' lip trend of filling in your cupid's bow with lip liner is going to be looked back on weirdly. I can't stand this trend." "I've never been one to do something just because it's trendy, so I say do what you want. I may silently judge you because I think it looks dumb, but you're not hurting me, so go for it. But this obsession with skincare when you haven't even hit puberty yet needs to stop. You have a baby face; you don't need 25 different products on your face." And... "Women in their teens and 20s using anti-aging serums. I'm in my 50s and look 10 years younger. My secret? I used sunscreen in my 20s, that's all!" "Microblading." "Middle parts. Unless your face is perfectly symmetrical (yours is not, I guarantee you), it will accentuate every single imbalance." "I'll never understand bleached eyebrows, but go ahead, I guess." And finally... "Is 'everything' a valid answer? I've worked in the beauty industry for five years, and I hate it. The basics of beauty are a face wash, a treatment if you have an issue that you want fixed, a moisturizer, and SPF. These 10+ step skincare routines are so wasteful and unnecessary. I also cannot stand the people who glorify plastic surgery, fillers/injections, hair and lash extensions, fake tans, long gel/acrylic nails, etc. It's now radical and extremely rare to be authentic. If you're changing everything about yourself, there's obviously a deep issue that needs to be worked on that a needle, some acrylic nails, and extensions won't fix. I work with women who spend their money on products, injections, extensions, and nails, and can't afford insurance, gas, or groceries. It's so absurd to me. I don't like a lot about how I look, but at least it's 100% me." What modern beauty trends can you not stand? Let us know in the comments or via this anonymous form. Woman Explains Why Her Golden Retriever Doesn't Look 'Normal'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In a viral Instagram video, the owner of a golden retriever named Reef explained why her pup doesn't look like a "normal golden," and internet users can't cope with it. In the post shared on August 5 by @reefthegolden_, Reef's owner answers a few of the most commonly asked questions about her pup, including why he looks different compared to most other puppies of the same breed. "Most frequently asked question about Reef. Why doesn't he look like a 'normal golden?' He is a show golden and people compare him to field goldens. And yes, this is why he's so fluffy," the owner writes in the clip. She also goes on to answer other questions about his personality and training. She confirms that he was never trained to behave in the bath the way he does in some of his most-viral clips; that he is the "biggest cuddle bug ever"; and that he goes out on his boat at least once a week. From left: Reef stands on a boat with another dog; and relaxes at home. From left: Reef stands on a boat with another dog; and relaxes at home. @reefthegolden_ "Is he actually as chill as he seems? Yes," she continues. "Why is he so mushy? Big boy = lots of skin." She also answers the one question that shocks viewers the most. "How old is he? 10 months. This one surprises people because he's a big boy and extremely calm temperament in public. "So how big is he going to be? His parents are over 100lbs … So he will be very large ~ 110lbs. Why does he buffer when you put his harness on? Drama. Does he just let you do whatever to him? Pretty much." Additionally, his owner, Grace, told Newsweek that Reef is a "true Florida boy," and he is "obsessed with the boat and swimming, and known as 'The Boat Dog' of TikTok." "He is super chill and the sweetest boy ever! He's 10 months old and comes from a line of Brazilian show goldens. He has a huge personality and tons of character—he's a cuddle bug, loves boujee lifestyle, and is a total goofball," Grace said. Veterinary website Dogster says that there are two types of golden retrievers, the show golden and the field golden, and while belonging to the same breed, they are widely different. While the field goldens were bred for the purposes of hunting and retrieving, which make them very high energy pups that require lots of enrichment, show goldens were bred mostly for their looks and are a lot more chilled. Field goldens usually have a darker and shorter coat, a wedge-shaped head with slanted eyes, and their snouts are more elongated. They are also leaner than their show counterparts. Show goldens have a more-square head and fluffy coat. The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 235,000 views and almost 22,000 likes on the platform. One user, Scoutthegolden_va, commented: "Long story short: reef is perfect." Another, roxanaboanfa, added: "I get this questions all the time, mine is a field golden and people are wondering why is he so big and tall, I end up giving an explanation."
