I'VE been everywhere in this motor over the last ten days.
Three hours north to Penrith for a top-secret job with M-Sport. You'll read about that another time.

It can glide along silently for 20-odd miles without waking the petrol engine
Three-and-a-half hours west to Llangurig for another cool story.
Five hours south to West Wittering beach.
And more places besides.
Here's what I learned.
A pick-up truck has to be the most useful invention after a fork.
I came across many farmers doing farmer things on my travels.
Builders carrying building stuff.
Bikers with bikes in the back.
Some bloke towing a climbing wall.
Two more with boats.
Ranger XL pick-up is totally brilliant and my new favourite Ford - it's proper comfy, pulls like a train and best bit is the price
Coastguards patrolling the beach.
All of them using their pick-up trucks as tools.
They probably didn't realise I was testing the first Ford Ranger with a plug-in hybrid.
Because you just wouldn't know any different. Unless you spotted the two filler flaps.
The thing is, this petrol/electric combo makes Britain's No1 pick-up even more useable.
It has the same minerals as a regular Ranger in terms of carrying stuff and towing things.
But it's got more torque and an e-mode. So it can glide along silently for 20-odd miles without waking the petrol engine. Plus, you can use it to power work tools. Bosh.
Obviously, the most efficient way to charge the 11.8kWh battery is with a plug.
Speak to Ford nicely and they'll fit a home charger for a tenner.
KEY FACTS: FORD RANGER Price: £40,841 exc VAT
Engine: 2.3-litre petrol plug-in hybrid
Economy: 28 mpg
0-62mph: 9.2 secs
Power: 281 hp
Top speed: 105 mph
CO2: 71g/km
Out: ????
But I recharged the battery on the go by pressing the 'EV Charge' button.
It sucked up 19 miles of electrons for use later. And I still averaged 32mpg – trumping the official 28mpg. Although admittedly I wasn't doing any heavy lifting at the time.
'Auto EV' is the default mode that uses both power sources for as long as it can to make life as smooth as possible.
By the way, the 2.3-litre engine is lifted from the Focus ST. The ten-speed auto from Mustang. So proper kit.
Other observations. The cabin. You feel safe up here, properly comfy, with acres of cabin space for four people and their kit. We easily covered 1,000 miles and I didn't get a numb bum once.
The upright touchscreen is a doddle to use. That shelf in front of the passenger seat is great for storing phones, sunglasses, sweets and receipts. Sometimes it's the little things that please.
To conclude, then. Ford hasn't just ticked boxes by adding a plug-in hybrid to the Ranger line-up.
I'd say it's the best pick-up truck Ford has ever made.

View post: Why Kia's Most Popular SUV Just Got Way More Expensive Domestic Production Isn't Helping The Blue Oval Ford joined the list of automakers reporting dour financial results due to President Donald Trump's tariffs. In an earnings call Wednesday, CEO Jim Farley said the automaker was expecting a $2 billion tariff bill, and went on to claim in a separate interview that the Trump Administration's policies would benefit Ford's Japanese rivals. Automakers brace for uncertain future amid Trump's tariff pause Watch More 'Our tariffs bill is $2 billion, and that's a net number,' Farley said. The Ford CEO also said he expected automakers to adopt a regional rather than a globalized strategy going forward because of the combined effect of tariffs, the rise of electric vehicles, and new emissions regulations, Business Insider reported. The Trump Administration's rollback of EV incentives and environmental regulations will create a disparity between the U.S. and other major car markets like Europe and China. 'We are increasingly seeing Europe, North America, and Asia becoming kind of regional businesses with tariff rates that are aligned for those three or four regions,' Farley said. 'This is quite a fundamental change.' Farley Thinks Japanese Automakers Got A Better Deal Ford has claimed at that was much as 80% of its U.S. volume is domestically-assembled, but Farley still thinks the automaker is at a disadvantage compared to some foreign firms. In an interview with Bloomberg published the same day as the earnings call, he said Trump's reduced tariffs for Japan would give automakers from that country a 'meaningful' advantage. Trump recently lowered tariffs on Japanese automotive imports from 25% to 15%—the same as rates for cars assembled in the European Union going forward. Farley said lower labor costs and favorable exchange rates could mean that a Kentucky-built Ford Escape costs $5,000 more than a Toyota RAV4 assembled in Japan, while a Michigan-built Ford Bronco could be $10,000 pricier than a Toyota 4Runner, which is also built in Japan. Farley told Bloomberg that Ford is working with the Trump Administration to 'minimize our tariff expense so that we can get more competitive,' but threatened that 'the bottom line is our plan at Ford is not to compete in those commodity segments.' Auto Industry Feels Tariff Pressure Industry analysts have raised concerns about massive tariffs since Trump first proposed them as a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, but the past few weeks have made their impact apparent. As automakers reported their first-half financial results, an evaporation of profits caused by tariff bills was a common theme. The Volkswagen Group, for example, reported that its profits were down by a third in the second quarter, from the same period a year earlier, despite increased sales. Recently-concluded trade deals with both the European Union and Japan likely won't help matters. Both drop tariffs on cars from 25% to 15%, but in the case of the EU, that's still much higher than the 2.5% tariff in place before Trump's return to the White House. Monterey Car Week Will Rumble To The Sound Of A New Shelby American Mustang

Is the 2025 Toyota Corolla FX more show than go? We got behind the wheel, and this is our honest review of the dark-trimmed compact sedan. Something Shelby Himself Would Love? Shelby American is teasing the reveal of a new Mustang-based creation with a short caption on social media noting that 'Carroll Shelby's favorite car was always 'the next one.'' Well, the next one is on its way after the tuning company revealed its own idea of an S650 with a GT350 badge back in January. Could this be Shelby American's take on a GT500? We'll find out soon; in the meantime, let's examine what we do know. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:10 Full screen The Ford Mach 4 could be the brand's first sedan since 2020 Watch More New Shelby Debuts In Two Weeks The online announcement gives us very little information to go with the teaser image, with the caption only revealing when the car will be presented to the public for the first time. 'During Monterey Car Week, on 8.13.25, we unveil the next one,' the company wrote. 'A new chapter in performance, heritage, and innovation begins.' Considering the kind of company the new Shelby American Mustang will be in at the event, we're expecting something special. The teaser image depicts a large top-hung wing on the back of an S650, and although we can't be 100% sure from just one shadowy shot, it's possible that the body will have been widened to allow for a beefier track and thicker wheels. Expect plenty of carbon fiber to be scattered around, too. Probably Another Supercharged V8 Although the Ford ECU used in the S650 has been cracked, allowing for easier tuning with even a pair of turbos, Shelby likes its Whipple superchargers, which can extract in excess of 800 horsepower from the 5.0-liter Coyote V8. The untouched naturally aspirated engine tops out at 500 hp in the Mustang Dark Horse, so we expect upgrades to the suspension and brakes to cope with whatever extra grunt is delivered, though the transmission will likely be safe. We'll have to wait for additional teasers between now and August 13 to glean anything more, but should you have a personal relationship with automotive photography legend Larry Chen, perhaps he'll let you see what's coming early; he's already photographed the new 'Stang for Shelby American. If you're not interested in this, Monterey Car Week will also play host to a limited-edition BMW 8 Series, the new Zenvo Aurora hypercar, and something from the house of Horacio Pagani. Amazon Is Selling a $190 Mirror Dash Cam for 32% Off, and Shoppers Say It's a ‘Game Changer'

Over 100,000 M models have been sold so far this year. Tesla has secured a $4.3 billion battery deal with LG Energy Solution, aiming to build Powerwalls and Megapacks using U.S.-made LFP cells—marking a major pivot away from China-sourced materials. Chevy now has the two fastest Nürburgring laps for American cars. View post: Ford's Fastest Mustang Ever Just Got Schooled by Two Corvettes at the Nurburgring A new report states that the app's parent company is reportedly tied up with state-owned entity SAIC on a new venture. While some fancy new vehicles have built-in cameras to detect and record collisions, most of us still need to install one separately. But not every dash cam has to be an eyesore with loose wires hanging in the middle of your windshield. In fact, the Wolfbox G840H Dual Dash Cam integrates directly onto your rearview mirror, blending seamlessly into your front cabin, while adding a 12-inch display. And right now, it's on sale for just $130 at Amazon. Wolfbox G840H Dual Dash Cam, $130 (was $190) at Amazon Rather than replacing your existing rearview mirror, the Wolfbox G840H Dual Dash Cam snaps directly onto it using the included adhesive mount. Once installed, the 12-inch display enhances rear visibility by dynamically brightening and dimming the real-time video feed from the connected backup camera. Everything captured by the front and rear cameras is continuously stored on a 32GB SD card by default, erasing past footage as it runs out of space. However, when the built-in G-sensor detects a collision, the impact footage is locked until you're able to retrieve it. If that sounds complicated to set up, it sort of is, but it doesn't have to be. Mounting the front camera is the easy part. The challenge is in the wiring. Although it does come with all of the necessary hardware to power the front and rear cameras using the 12-volt outlet in your car, many customers choose to purchase the optional hardwire kit, which routes into your fuse box, enabling 24-hour surveillance when you're parked. Wolfbox USB-C Hardwire Kit for G840H, $22 at Amazon 'I don't normally write reviews but this product has been a game changer for me!' one shopper exclaimed. 'I was recently in an accident and this would've been amazing to have at the time. Having it now eases my mind and makes me feel prepared if something were to happen again.' 'It really is a great dash cam and backup camera,' a reviewer touted. 'The picture quality is amazing and when it's pitch black at night, the camera has a great viewing ability.' 'After seeing other dash cam brands demonstrated on YouTube versus Wolfbox, it's my personal opinion that this is the best dash cam out there,' another customer added. Apart from a tire inflator, a jump starter, and maybe an OBD2 scanner, a dash cam is one of the first accessories you should purchase for your automotive emergency kit. With the Wolfbox G840H Dual Dash Cam, you'll likely never need another one. At $130, it's an absolute steal, especially for those who don't have a dash cam already. Equip your car with the ultimate insurance policy before it returns to full price. About the Author Gabe Carey View Profile
