Joshua Tree Music Festival and more: 5 shows to see in the Coachella Valley this weekend

Yahoo12-05-2025
Looking for some live entertainment this weekend? Here are my picks for the latest can't-miss live performances in the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities.
Festival: In 2024, USA TODAY ranked the Joshua Tree Music Festival as No. 1 on its 10BEST music festival list and No. 2 in 2025. According to founder Barnett English, the festival hosts 3,000 people during both annual editions and features over 55 workshops, live mural artists and activities for children with more of a community vibe than a large-scale music festival.
From Thursday to Sunday, artists including Saritah, Wajatta, Steve Poltz, Lisa Sanders & Brown Sugar, Smoked Out Soul, Brittany Davis and more will perform at the festival, which is held at the Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground. Although four-day admission passes are sold out, individual day passes remain available.
If you go: Thursday through Sunday, Joshua Tree Lake RV & Campground, 2601 Sunfair Road, Joshua Tree. Individual passes are $45 to $115, discounted passes are available for children. For more information, visit joshuatreemusicfestival.com/get-tickets.
Mariachi metal: For those who love mariachi and metal music, you can enjoy both at this concert. Metalachi, an East Los Angeles band that performs mariachi covers of metal songs by Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica and more, is performing this week in Pioneertown. Instead of traditional charro suits, members wear leather boots, leopard-print pants, T-shirts, sombreros and luchador masks. The band's brand of fun has attracted a wide fan base to live shows, and Metalachi has performed at the Netflix Is A Joke Fest, Welcome to Rockville Festival and more.
Metalachi will perform on Thursday at Pappy and Harriet's.
If you go: 9 p.m. Thursday, Pappy and Harriet's, 53-688 Pioneertown Road, Pioneertown. Tickets $20. pappyandharriets.com
Pop: Jason Mraz continues to entertain audiences with his blend of acoustic pop, soulful vocals and uplifting spirit featured in songs such as "I'm Yours" and "Lucky." In 2023, Mraz released his eighth album "Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride," which reunited him with past collaborators, including the Los Angeles band Raining Jane and producer Martin Terefe, who worked with him on his 2008 record "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things."
Mraz will perform on Friday at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa.
If you go: 8 p.m. Friday, Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa, 32-250 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage. Tickets $85 to $200. aguacalientecasinos.com
Tribute: It's hard to say if the metal band System of a Down will ever fully reunite and release another album, even though the band has teased it through the years. But in the meantime, local fans can celebrate the music with the tribute band Toxicity, a System of a Down tribute band.
Toxicity will perform on Friday in the Rock Yard at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.
If you go: 7 p.m. Friday, Rock Yard at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, 84-245 Indio Springs Parkway, Indio. Admission is free. fantasyspringsresort.com/rock-yard
Comedy: In 2023, comedian Alec Flynn performed at the Netflix is a Joke festival and New York Comedy Festival, where he was named as one of their 'Comics to Watch." Video footage of his "Don't Tell Comedy" appearance has amassed over 3 million views.
See what Flynn has to make you laugh about on Friday when he performs at Little Street Music Hall.
If you go: 8 p.m. Friday, Little Street Music Hall, 82-707 Miles Ave., Indio. Tickets $19.99 to $54.99. eventbrite.com

How much do last-minute tickets cost to see System of a Down in concert?

Vivid Seats is the New York Post's official ticketing partner. We may receive revenue from this partnership for sharing this content and/or when you make a purchase. Featured pricing is subject to change. Prepare to cross an item off your bucket list, metalheads. Starting Aug. 27, System of a Down will embark on a brief six-concert tour at three stadiums all over North America. To kick off the short run, the 'Toxicity' shredders are scheduled to play a pair of back-to-back concerts in the Garden State. Advertisement Those shows are scheduled to go down at East Rutherford, NJ's MetLife Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 27 and Thursday, Aug. 28. They'll be joined by special guests Korn, Polyphia and Wisp at both gigs. After that short stint in the Meadowlands, the legendary rockers swing into Chicago's Soldier Field (Aug. 31 and Sept. 1) with Avenged Sevenfold and Toronto's Rogers Stadium (Sept. 3 and 5) with Deftones. If you'd like to be at one of these rare SoaD performances, last-minute tickets are available for all six shows. Advertisement At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find for any one concert was $79 including fees on Vivid Seats. Other shows start anywhere from $84 to $177 including fees. And, in the event you're on the fence about seeing the anti-authority act live, critics were quick to point out the group still had the goods when they performed in San Francisco last summer. 'Despite playing infrequent live shows, System of a Down proved that they're as in sync as ever. Frontman Serj Tankian's vocal range is arguably one of the best of any metal frontman, shifting between operatic runs and guttural screams with ease,' New Noise Magazine wrote. 'Guitarist and second vocalist Daron Malakian's crowd work was impeccable, encouraging attendees to spin, pogo, and reminding the crowd of 50,000, 'Stop letting them divide you! Your neighbor is not your enemy; the government is,' to a roar of agreement.' Advertisement Still need a few more details before smashing that buy button? We're here for you. Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman Delivered Mail for USPS. Lots of Other Stars Too

Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Even before the Founding Fathers declared that all men are created equal, one truth was already self-evident in the blossoming United States of America: The people need their mail. Established during the Second Continental Congress on July 26, 1775, the United States Postal Service has kept Americans connected for 250 years—from transporting letters on horseback to delivering e-commerce in green trucks. And over the years, some of America's most recognizable figures—including actors Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman—delivered mail before they made their big break. The 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln earned his famous moniker "Honest Abe" while postmaster in New Salem, Illinois, and aviator Charles Lindbergh became the famous "Lucky Lindy" as an airmail pilot. Even Walt Disney delivered mail before Mickey Mouse graced the silver screen, and a whole host of musicians started off as postal workers, including the legendary jazz bassist Charles Mingus. FPG/Archive Photos/Getty "To be a jazz musician is a meager livelihood for most," USPS historian Steve Kochersperger told Newsweek. "He was a brilliant musician, but he depended on the Postal Service when he needed to pay the bills." Even "I'm Yours" singer Jason Mraz worked as a casual clerk before pursuing his music career. "All of our most precious documents, contracts, presents and checks from grandma go through their trusted hands," Mraz told Newsweek via email. "I personally think they are national service members that get overlooked—like park rangers, but for packages." Today, USPS processes and delivers on average over 370 million pieces of mail daily, thanks to its nationwide network of 640,000 employees and automated sorters. Though vehicular transportation has made mail delivery much faster than in its early days, the system still employs 6,450 "fleet of feet" workers who deliver mail entirely on foot. A testament to the reliability of its workers, the phrase "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" has long been attributed to the U.S. Postal Service. "That quote from the ancient Greek Herodotus is on the main post office building in New York City, where millions of people have seen it over the years and they've come to associate it with the Postal Service," Kochersperger said. "We embrace that." When I Was a Postal Worker... How to get System of a Down tour tickets: New Jersey, Chicago, and Toronto

System of a Down will be going on tour for the first time since their Wake Up the Souls world tour in 2015, so if you were worried you'd missed your chance to see the band live, now is your opportunity. This fall, their stadium tour will bring them to three cities across North America, with two concerts in each city, and I've broken down how to get System of a Down tickets below. The band featuring Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboards), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass, backing vocals), and John Dolmayan (drums) will start at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey August 27 and 28 before they travel to Chicago's Soldier Field for their concerts on August 21 and September 1.
