Khamzat flies to Chechnya, surrenders UFC title to revulsive Ramzan Kadyrov — ‘Belt is important for my country'
Just a couple of days after winning it from Dricus du Plessis atop the UFC 319 pay-per-view (PPV) event in Chicago, 'Borz' flew to Chechnya to surrender the strap to human rights hurter and head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. If you're unfamiliar with Kadyrov's highlight reel, he's the maniac who opened a concentration camp for homosexuals back in 2017.
That lasted about as long as his fight club for toddlers.
'Belt is important for my country,' Chimaev told Joe Rogan at UFC 319.
Kadyrov attended Chimaev's wedding in 2022 and frequently trains with the UFC middleweight champ, which is one of the reasons 'Borz' had issues entering the United States. Fortunately for Chimaev, UFC CEO, Dana White, is buddy-buddy with U.S. President, Donald Trump.
Problem solved.
Hopefully Chimaev fares better than Kadyrov's previous ward, UFC light heavyweight Abdul-Kerim Edilov, who died under 'mysterious circumstances' just a few years back.

Danger! UFC Shanghai's Johnny Walker knows he has a ‘big challenge' in front of him and he‘must play it smart'
No. 13-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight contender, Johnny Walker, will square off against surging Chinese knockout artist, Zhang Mingyang, in the main event of UFC Shanghai this weekend (Sat., Aug. 23, 2025) inside China's Shanghai Indoor Stadium. So far, no one has been able to solve Zhang inside the Octagon. Indeed, 'Mountain Tiger' has bulldozed his way through the bottom of the 205-pound division, stopping every single opponent in less than five minutes — including former title challenger, Anthony Smith (watch highlights). The 27-year-old wrecking machine is riding a 12-fight win streak, all in the first round, with 10 coming via knockout. Walker — who has struggled with durability in his UFC losses — knows he's got his hands full. 'He is a big challenge for me,' Walker told reporters during UFC Shanghai media day. 'He's on a big win streak and is a powerful guy with a lot of finishes in the first round. He's dangerous, so I must play it smart to beat him.' If that 'smart' gameplan involves grappling, though, Walker hasn't thought about it (uh-oh). 'No. I'm a striker, and I'm going to strike with him,' Walker concluded. Of course, the Brazilian could be keeping his cards close to the chest. Now training under Eric Nicksick at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas — a coach known for detailed gameplans (except for Roman Dolidze) — Walker may have a trick or two in his back pocket. Still, the timing couldn't be tougher. Walker enters UFC Shanghai on the third two-fight losing skid of his Octagon career, having been violently knocked out in back-to-back bouts (watch highlights). A win would stabilize his position in the rankings … but another knockout loss to the Chinese phenom could push him to the brink of irrelevance in a super crowded division. What are the odds? LIVE! Stream UFC Shanghai On ESPN+ LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT MONSTERS! Bruna Brasil explains how she ended up in main event of Road to UFC card in China
Bruna Brasil will headline Friday's Road to UFC card in Shanghai opposite Chinese prospect Shi Ming, but that was not the original plan. The UFC has a Fight Night event booked for Saturday in Shanghai, headlined by Johnny Walker and Zhang Mingyang at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium, while Road to UFC, the tournament built to recruit Chinese fighters to the promotion, has a show at the same venue a day before. 'I didn't expect to go to China [laughs]. The opponent never crossed my head either, she just got in the UFC,' Brasil told MMA Fighting. '[The fight] was going to be in the regular UFC but then they suggested to transfer the fight to be a special main event to promote the Road card. I thought it was cool because it will get more attention. We would probably be fighting in the prelims, and now we get to stand out more.' Brasil said it's more 'captivating and exciting' to be the main event of a smaller show than filling up a regular UFC Fight Night. 'Tickets went on sale and it was sold out in like, 10 minutes,' Brasil said. 'I was very excited about that. I think it's going to be very cool to enter the octagon in a packed arena with everybody screaming and cheering. It's going to be fantastic. It's an unusual opportunity, I didn't expect to be the main event of a UFC event, so it's going to be an incredible experience for me. It's going to be wonderful to show people my talent and what I have to offer.' The Fighting Nerds strawweight dropped to 2-3 in the UFC after a short-notice flyweight loss to Wand Cong in February, seven months after beating Molly McCann in Manchester. Brasil now aims to once again be victorious in enemy territory. 'She's beloved in China, we've seen that already,' Brasil said of Ming. 'People like her personality, the fact she's super nice. And she's also very respectful in the fight, and Asians like that.' Ming joined the UFC after a pair of decision victories on the Road to UFC tournament, and is back to the octagon for the first time since an incredibly violent head kick knockout over Xiaocan Feng at UFC's last trip to Macau in November 2024. Brasil said that Ming is very technical and moves well on the feet, and flexible to escape submissions on the ground, but might still be untested in the sport. 'I believe she has competed with good athletes, based on what I've seen, but I don't believe she has faced anyone of my level yet,' Brasil said. 'People say I'm misguiding, that I look thin but my strikes are powerful, especially the kicks. I believe she will feel when I land the first kick or teep. I believe she will feel that hard, and that's when she will begin to realize she has to maybe change strategies a little bit, try to circle more. I'm ready for those changes. I believe she will try takedowns, too.'

Ex-champ Sean O'Malley predicts Cory Sandhagen vs. 'savage' Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 320
Sean O'Malley gives Cory Sandhagen a chance to dethrone Merab Dvalishvili. O'Malley (18-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) is coming off back-to-back title losses to bantamweight champion Dvalishvili (20-4 MMA, 13-2 UFC), most recently getting submitted at UFC 316 in June. Dvalishvili will make a less than four-month turnaround to defend his belt against Sandhagen (18-5 MMA, 11-4 UFC) in the UFC 320 main event on Oct. 4 in Las Vegas, his third title defense of the year. "The dude jumped into a frozen lake on top of his head; not surprised that he's fighting back-to-back-to-back times," O'Malley told MMA Junkie of Dvalishvili. "He's a savage. He's built for fighting, and why not take advantage of it? Not surprised at all." According to BetMGM, Sandhagen is a +275 betting underdog against the champion, who is a -350 favorite. O'Malley thinks Sandhagen's well-rounded skillset could surprise Dvalishvili. "Merab is improving each fight, but he's still – to this day, I watch him and I'm like, 'God, I know I can knock this motherf*cker out,'" O'Malley said. "He's sloppy in certain positions and he's beatable. He's definitely beatable and you can't count Cory out. "Cory is one of the most skilled guys in the UFC, not just in the bantamweight division. You can't count Cory out. I'm very curious to see how that fight plays out, what happens if Merab gets a hold of Cory. Merab felt super strong, so I'm curious to see what kind of scrambles Cory can create and if he can give him any trouble."
