Crackdown on Jleeb, Khaitan intensified by the Kuwait Authorities
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: Kuwait's Cabinet on Tuesday looked into the progress on a national crackdown against rampant real estate violations in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and Khaitan areas, spearheaded by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al- Sabah. Kuwait has intensified security campaigns in a bid to uphold the law and crack down on widespread real estate and commercial violations in these two areas, the Kuwaiti interior minister told the Cabinet amid its weekly session presided over by His Highness the Prime Minister Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, citing the need for greater cooperation across state bodies to address the matter. The traffic congestion in the two densely-populated areas, along with violators' attempts to circumvent the law, are major impediments to the efforts of security forces to push forward the crackdown, the minister underlined, emphasizing that state bodies would do their utmost to restore order and enforce the rule of law. The Cabinet then looked into a report by a ministerial-level public services committee over donations given by state bodies and private firms in support of a national green initiative, thanking them for their contributions towards efforts aiming to add an aesthetic touch to roads and areas nationwide. Letters addressed to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from the leaders of friendly nations were among the matters discussed during the session, which dealt with efforts aiming to ratchet up cooperation and bolster relations between Kuwait and these countries. The Cabinet also approved a decision to strip Kuwaiti citizenship off several individuals, based on the works and findings of a national committee formed to investigate the matter.(KUNA)

Coast Guard foils KD 1.3m drug smuggling attempt
Coast Guard foils KD 1.3m drug smuggling attempt Operations room spots suspicious boat via drone surveillance KUWAIT: The Ministry of Interior announced Monday that the Coast Guard thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into the country, in one of the most significant seizures in recent months. The ministry said in a statement that its operations room spotted, via drone surveillance, a boat whose crew was seen retrieving bags hidden on the seabed. A rapid response unit from the Naval Formation and Maritime Security Department was dispatched to the location, where the boat and its occupants were intercepted. Authorities confirmed that three people were on board — a member of the Interior Ministry's military service, an employee of the General Administration of Customs, and an Arab expatriate. A search uncovered eight tightly sealed bags containing 319 packets of narcotics, with an estimated street value of KD 1.3 million (about $4.25 million). The Interior Ministry affirmed that 'no one is above the law,' stressing that measures are being reinforced to secure the country's territorial waters and enhance the readiness of Coast Guard units, both technically and operationally, to combat smuggling operations. Drug trafficking has been a growing concern in Kuwait and the wider Gulf region, with authorities intensifying efforts to disrupt networks that often involve both regional and international actors. The ministry has repeatedly warned of the dangers posed by narcotics to society, describing the fight against drugs as a national priority aimed at safeguarding youth and preserving social stability. — KUNA

Eyes wide open, no to Kuwait visa fraud - Strict verification on arrival
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 18: In parallel with the measures announced by the Ministry of Interior on the issuance of visas, the concerned authorities remain vigilant, efficiently playing their role as a safety valve protecting the country from fraud or manipulation attempts, such as the submission of false information or incorrect documents to obtain a visa. Sources clarified that while biometric fingerprinting helped in apprehending deportees attempting to enter the country using alternative passports or different entry visas, high-level security scrutiny of all travelers, particularly those arriving in Kuwait on electronic tourist visas, serves as a deterrent against any illegal entry attempt. Sources pointed out that obtaining a visa electronically does not guarantee entry to Kuwait. "Upon arrival, the documents and identification of visa holders are scrutinized to ensure the validity and accuracy of the information and the validity of the residency permit in the Gulf state. Attempts to forge residency permits in several countries are being carried out by international networks, but security personnel are vigilant against such criminal behavior and show zero tolerance in dealing with anything that threatens the security and stability of Kuwait,' sources affirmed. Sources told the daily that with the recent increase in travel through Abdally border, the officers assigned at the border have apprehended several travelers holding electronic tourist visas to enter Kuwait. It was discovered that they obtained these visas by presenting forged residency permits in Gulf countries. Sources said the security scrutiny during the procedures prior to entry to Kuwait revealed that these individuals presented forged residency permits in Gulf countries in order to obtain Kuwaiti visas. They disclosed that the detainees' confessions indicated that they obtained these visas after paying certain individuals and offices in Iraq. Sources added that investigations revealed the presence of individuals and offices actively issuing fake residency permits to individuals, pretending to be residents of one of the Gulf countries. 'These permits are then submitted electronically as part of the documents required to obtain a Kuwaiti visa. Legal action has been taken against those arrested, and the concerned authorities have been notified of the discovery of forged Gulf residency permits and attempts to use them,' sources added.
