Tulu Sahitya Academy's drama project to promote harmony

1 2 Mangaluru: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy launched a unique initiative to foster communal harmony through drama. The academy produced two Tulu plays, a popular medium in the coastal belt, to promote regional unity. 'Pagapu', a drama directed by Jagan Pawar Bekal, and 'Jagrate' by director Dinesh Attavar are being staged in school and college campuses across the Dakshina Kannada district to create awareness among students about the tradition of harmony that prevailed in the coastal district, said Academy chairman Tharanath Gatti Kapikad. "We produced the plays exclusively for students in high schools and colleges. The title of the play 'Pagapu' itself suggests 'change', and the storyline insists on changing the mindset of people. Meanwhile, 'Jagrate' refers to a caution and also an awareness. Both plays narrate the erstwhile life of South Canara, where people lived in harmony. The plays also inspire the young generation to inculcate the values of the tradition of harmony," he said. Both plays were already staged at more than six schools and colleges in Mangaluru, Ullal, and other places in the district, he said. "The plays received a good response from students, who were impressed by watching the shows. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Become Fluent in Any Language Talkpal AI Undo Many who watched the shows requested that the academy arrange shows in their villages. The half-hour plays created more impact than lengthy speeches when it comes to awareness on harmony," said Gatti. The academy has been taking care of the expenses of the drama troupes. The play 'Jagrate' was staged for the first time at Milagres College in the city on July 7. Meanwhile, the first show of 'Pagapu' was held at Govt Women's PU College, Balmatta, on July 18. While the team of Dinesh Attavar has professional artistes who stage 'Jagrate', Jagan Pawar trained students of Amritha College for 'Pagapu', he added.

I have wanted to do a rugged action role for years: Pruthvi Ambaar

Actor Pruthvi Ambaar takes on a rugged action role in Kothalavadi, playing Mohana, a character he describes as both emotional and inspiring. 'I've wanted to do a full-fledged action role for a long time, and Kothalavadi fulfilled that. The film blends action, emotion, and love in a way that will resonate with audiences,' he says. Set in the old Mysuru region, the film demanded linguistic adaptation. 'Being from the coastal belt, picking up the Chamarajanagar Kannada dialect was a challenge,' Pruthvi admits. 'But I got the hang of it in a couple of days. The story is rooted in nativity, and even wearing a lungi on screen felt refreshing and authentic.' Starring opposite Kavya Shaiva, Pruthvi sees Mohana as a symbol of change. 'Villages are evolving. Youngsters are standing up against injustice. Mohana is the only ray of hope during a crisis, be it famine or illegal sand mining. His arc will inspire youth to fight for their rights. ' Surprised to learn post-shoot that the film was bankrolled by actor Yash's mother, Pushpa Arunkumar, he adds, 'They didn't compromise on production quality and it'll appeal to viewers.' Pruthvi is also gearing up for his Tulu directorial debut. 'We're currently in the writing phase, and I believe strong writing is the true hero of a film. Shoot will begin soon,' he shares.
