11 People, Including 2 Children, Injured in Memorial Day Boat Explosion
Eleven people, including two children, have been hospitalized following a Memorial Day boat explosion.The Southeast Division of the U.S. Coast Guard, based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, announced on X that they responded to a report of 'multiple injuries' after a boat exploded near the New River Triangle around 5:45 p.m. local time on May 26. Rescue teams arrived on the scene and transported '13 [people] to EMS.' A dog was also rescued from the scene.Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesman Frank Guzman later confirmed to the Miami Herald that a total of 13 people were on the boat. Eleven people, including two children, were injured. Ten of those injured were transported to Broward Health Medical Center and were later transferred to a burn unit at Jackson Memorial Hospital. As of 10 p.m. on Monday, it was reported that eight of the victims were in good condition, while the children, aged five and seven, were in fair condition.Witness Christopher Blackwood was fishing near the scene when he heard a loud explosion. "When I looked at the boat, I saw the gas vapor, went into the air. I saw people jump into the water,' Blackwood said. 'Something inside exploded. You just got to be safe, you got to know what you're doing.'
The incident is still under investigation. 'It's too soon to know how this happened," Guzman told WSVN. 6 missing at sea after small plane crashes off San Diego
A search was underway Sunday night for six missing people after a small plane crashed in the ocean off of San Diego that afternoon, authorities said. The U.S. Coast Guard received a report at 12:45 p.m. that a twin-engine Cessna 414 had crashed around three miles west of Point Loma. A debris field was located off of the coast in an area where the water was estimated to be 200 feet deep, according to the Coast Guard. Multiple agencies worked together to scour the area for any survivors Sunday afternoon and evening. This included air and marine Coast Guard crews, air and marine Customs & Border Protection crews, San Diego Harbor Police boat crews and San Diego Lifeguard crews. No one had been found as of 11:30 p.m., Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Graves told The Times. The Coast Guard Cutter Sea Otter crew will remain on scene overnight to continue the search, and helicopter crews were set to rejoin the effort at first light, he said. Local resident Tyson Wislofsky witnessed the crash while surfing near Point Loma on Sunday afternoon. 'I saw him come down at angle. He wasn't flying straight to the ground,' Wislofsky told NBC4 News. 'The next time he came out of the clouds, he went straight into the water. Full throttle.' The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash. Information on the the identity of those missing was not immediately available.

A moped-riding mugger ripped a $1,300 chain off of a 5-year-old boy's neck then sped off on a Bronx street Saturday afternoon, according to cops and law enforcement sources. The unidentified brute drove the two-wheeler up to the young child as he was walking to his father in front of an apartment building on Marion Avenue and carried out the sudden heist around 4 p.m., police and sources said. The boy was left with redness and swelling to his neck, and needed to be treated at the scene by EMS. The stolen chain is worth around $1,300, sources said. Police are now searching for the thief who rode off northbound on Marion Avenue with a multicolored hat, black jacket and black jeans, according to surveillance footage captured by the NYPD.
