Andhra Pradesh Primary Teachers' Association resents allotment of schools in remote areas to low-paid MTS teachers
In a statement, APPTA State president A.G.S. Ganapathi Rao and State general secretary K. Prakash Rao said many of these teachers were nearing retirement. They pointed out that after the recent promotions and transfers in the School Education Department, several schools, particularly those in remote areas of districts, have been left completely vacant. Teachers who have not yet been relieved from their previous posts are now being instructed to return and work on deputation in those vacant schools.
As per the current situation across all districts, many such schools are being managed in this temporary manner until new recruits from the upcoming DSC (District Selection Committee) process join. Presently, schools that have lost all teaching staff are being marked as vacant and allotted to MTS teachers, forcing them to work in remote areas, far from their homes.
APPTA leaders appealed to the School Education Commissioner to consider the situation with a humanitarian perspective and instead allot MTS teachers to vacancies closer to their local areas. Referring to the assurance given to them that new teachers will be appointed through the DSC in the first week of August, they urged the School Education Department to revise its current decision and do justice to the MTS teachers.
The APPTA leaders said they had made a representation in writing to the HRD Minister Nara Lokesh and the School Education Commissioner Vijay Rama Raju on the issue.

Speaking on recent achievements, he mentioned the commissioning of several indigenous ships in recent years and announced the upcoming commissioning of frigates Udaigiri and Himgiri on 26 August 2025 in Visakhapatnam. He also said the Indian Navy is preparing for the International Fleet Review and Milan 2026, both scheduled to be hosted in the city in February 2026.

Army Holds 400-km Cycle Rally To Honour Wayanad Landslide Victims
The Indian Army's Defence Security Corps (DSC) Centre in Kannur organised a 400-kilometer cycle rally through four northern districts of Kerala. The rally was a show of support for victims of devastating landslides in Wayanad's Chooralmala in July last year, which left 254 people dead, 397 injured, and 118 missing. Additionally, the initiative aimed to reconnect with local communities, engage with veterans, and encourage young people to join the armed forces. Led by Colonel P. S. Nagra, the cycle rally began on August 9 in Kannur, and the journey spanned key towns across four northern districts, following this route: August 9: Kannur to Vadakara August 10: Vadakara to Calicut August 11: Calicut to Malappuram August 12: Malappuram to Wandoor, then Wandoor to Mukkam August 13: Mukkam to Kalpetta August 14: Kalpetta to Chooralmala and back The final leg of the rally was flagged off on Thursday by Wayanad District Collector Megha Sree, IPS officer Taposh Basumatry, Assistant Collector of Wayanad, Archana, and other senior veterans. The event paid tribute to the people of Wayanad, symbolising unity, resilience, and national integration. "This rally is not just about cycling, it's about being present for the people, showing them they are not alone in the aftermath of tragedy, and motivating the youth to see the Indian Army as a way to serve and protect," said Col Nagra. The rally will conclude on August 15, coinciding with India's 79th Independence Day celebrations. Participants will be honored for their dedication and service at the Kalpetta Parade Ground.

Allow compassionate appointments in private PU colleges: Karnataka HC to State
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court said the deputy director has to identify vacant posts in private aided pre-university colleges if there are no vacancies in the institution where the deceased employee was working to grant a compassionate appointment to legal heirs. If vacancies are not available within the district, the issue has to be escalated to the director, who is duty-bound to identify and fill vacancies in institutions anywhere in the state, the court added. Justice Suraj Govindaraj passed the order, quashing the endorsement dated September 20, 2024, issued by the School Education Department, rejecting the application filed by the petitioner, Santhosh Yamanappa Wadakar, from Bagalkot district. The rejection was solely on the ground that there was no vacancy at the private aided institution where his father was working. The court has now referred the matter to the Deputy Director of Pre-University Education. The petitioner's father, working as a first-grade assistant in Adarsh Composite PU College in Bevoor of Bagalkot district, passed away in 2009 while in service. The petitioner applied for a compassionate appointment to the chairman of Adarsh Vidya Vardhaka Sangha, which was forwarded to the Deputy Director, who rejected it. It was also endorsed by the joint director of Pre-University Education. The petitioner's counsel argued that the deputy director was required to not only consider vacancies in the institution of the deceased, but also in any institution within the district, as per the Karnataka Pre-University Education (Appointment on Compassionate Grounds) (Amendment) Rules, 2010. If no vacancy exists, the deputy director is required to identify a vacancy anywhere in the state.
