Steelers sign OT Calvin Anderson to two-year deal
Offensive tackle Calvin Anderson will be back in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers announced on Monday that they have signed Anderson to a two-year deal. They did not announce any other terms.
Anderson signed with the Steelers last September and appeared in four games before landing on injured reserve. He was activated ahead of their Wild Card game in the playoffs, but did not play in the loss to the Ravens.
Anderson appeared in five games for the Patriots in 2023 and 41 games over three seasons with the Broncos. He started 12 times for Denver and made a pair of starts during his time with New England.

In his first year following a torn Achilles, he completed 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Those numbers gave reason for optimism. One of the most important keys to making things work this season between Rodgers and the team will be open communication. That is something former Pittsburgh cornerback Joe Haden spoke out honestly about when giving advice to Rodgers about his new chapter. "You just got to be a grown man, go there, be honest," Haden said. "Coach Tomlin does a great job of being able to build real, genuine relationships with people. Me and him had a relationship where you could just talk... One thing he's going to do, he's going to be blatantly honest with you, so you just need to be honest with him. Coach Tomlin is so real. There's no fluff, there's no fake, so when he tells you something, he means it." He will have no problem being honest with Tomlin about his thoughts on the team and direction. It will be interesting to see how the 2025 season goes for the Steelers. They have a talented roster put together that will lean heavily on Rodgers being able to play at an elite level. Haden's advice is sound advice and Rodgers is sure to take it. His job is to come in, play at a high level, and take over a strong leadership role within the offense. Those are roles he has played at an elite level in the past and should be able to do so again. "McLaurin would be a welcome addition to Denver's receiving room and help alleviate the reliance that the franchise has put on its young receivers to all pan out. A scenario exists where Nix could have a sluggish Year 2 after putting a lot of impressive plays on film in Year 1 (e.g., Dak Prescott in 2017 and C.J. Stroud in 2024)," they wrote. "If that indeed takes place, having an improved pass-catching core around Nix can help offset that potential downtick in production. With McLaurin, one knows exactly what they're getting: a steady and durable downfield weapon who can shoulder the bulk of secondaries' attention." McLaurin is coming off of a 2024 season with the Commanders that saw him catch 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. What would this kind of move mean for Nix and the Broncos? Quite simply, the offense would have a chance to be elite. Currently, Denver has Courtland Sutton penciled in as its No. 1 wide receiver option. A duo of McLaurin and Sutton would be very difficult for opposing defenses to slow down. Behind those two players, the Broncos would have Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin, and Devaughn Vele. Nix showed signs of superstar potential as a rookie. Adding McLaurin to the mix would help him put up even bigger production in year two. As a rookie, Nix completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,775 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also ran for 430 yards and four more touchdowns. 2025 NFL odds: Back Aaron Rodgers, Steelers to lose in wild-card round
The Pittsburgh Steelers finally turned rumor into reality last week, signing future first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year contract. Rodgers joins the third team of his illustrious career, leaving behind a disappointing and forgettable two-year Jets tenure. The most memorable moment during that stint? The season-ending injury he suffered on his first series with the team in September 2023. In 2024, the Jets had a healthy Rodgers but couldn't come close to living up to lofty expectations, as they finished 5-12. Despite the disastrous team results a year ago, Rodgers put up a respectable 28 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions. For the second straight year, the Steelers will try to milk the last drop of quality football from a once-elite quarterback. Last year, they took a shot on Russell Wilson and had mixed results. Will this year be any different? Well, we know one thing: Mike Tomlin is likely to put a respectable product on the field. Since taking over as head coach in 2007, the Steelers have never done worse than 8-8. The 6-10 mark the Steelers had in 2003 was their last losing season, back when their quarterback was Tommy Maddox. But as consistent as the Steelers have been under Tomlin, it's also been nearly a decade since they've won a playoff game. The franchise has been stuck in a cycle of being not quite good enough to be a legitimate contender but not bad enough to get a high draft pick and select a franchise quarterback. Does anything change this year? Perhaps. Maybe Rodgers has enough upside (and downside) to break the trend of respectability/mediocrity and either win this team a playoff game or produce a season similar to the one with the Jets last year that leads to a top-10 pick. But how will it ultimately play out? And what's the bet? The Pittsburgh Steelers to lose in the wild-card round is +330 (a $10 bet pays $43 total). The Steelers have the defense and infrastructure to always be a playoff-caliber squad. Aaron Rodgers — as disappointing as last year was — still put up stats that can translate to team success if put in the right situation. The Steelers should, once again, be firmly in the mix for a playoff spot. Unfortunately for them, it's likely once again a wild-card spot, considering the Ravens are a cut above the Steelers in the AFC North. A wild-card spot means a road playoff game to start the postseason and likely a date with one of the many premier quarterbacks in the AFC. Think Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson or maybe even Joe Burrow. In four of the last five years, the Steelers have lost in the wild-card round. They've lost to Mahomes, Allen, and Jackson over that stretch, as well as Baker Mayfield. Pittsburgh is the model of consistency but has lost its last six playoff games and has not won a playoff game since the 2016 season. Rodgers is an all-time great player, but at this stage of his career, it is not enough to break this cycle of losing early in the postseason.
