Suspected murder-suicide in Germany leaves family of four dead
The 49-year-old man, a policeman, apparently killed his wife and two children and then himself in the small town of Klettbach.
All the bodies had bullet wounds, police and prosecutors said.
Police received a call at about 6:30 am (0430 GMT) and arrived at the scene about 20 minutes later.
The house where the bodies were found remains cordoned off. The bodies have been removed from the scene.
While briefing reporters, visibly shocked police officer Christian Hackbart said that he knew the dead policeman personally.
Investigators did not reveal the age of the woman or the children, and neither did they comment on the background to the crime.
Klettbach is located some 12 kilometres south-east of the Thuringian state capital Erfurt. About 1,300 people live in the town.
The mayor of Klettbach, Franziska Hildebrandt, said she was "shocked" at the news.

The Romanian Ministry of National Defense ts aerial surveillance system "identified groups of drones launched by the Russian Federation, which attacked the Ukrainian ports on the Danube," late Tuesday into early Wednesday. In a NATO response, two German Air Force Typhoon planes that had already been stationed at Romania's 57th Air Base to help keep the nation's airspace secure were scrambled to monitor the country's border with Ukraine in the Romanian county of Tulcea. According to the Defense Ministry, no aerial vehicles of any sort were found to intrude into Romanian airspace and the jets returned to the airbase without issue. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed Wednesday that a gas distribution station in the country's Odesa region, which borders Tulcea County, was among several places attacked by Russia during the overnight. The ministry had previously reported earlier this month it had contacted NATO after Russian forces launched a drone attack on Ukraine near the Romanian border, close enough to set off warning alerts in northern Tulcea. NATO had announced in July that German fighter jets were being deployed to Romania for eight months as part of the alliance's air policing mission in southeastern Europe, taking over for the Italian Air Force, which was previously handling that task.

Authorities charge man suspected of planning attack in Germany, possibly targeting Israeli Embassy
BERLIN — German prosecutors announced terrorism charges Wednesday against a man who they say may have planned to attack the Israeli Embassy in Berlin and intended to join the Islamic State group in Pakistan. The suspect, a Russian national identified only as Akhmad E. in line with German privacy rules, was arrested on Feb. 20 at the capital's airport as he prepared to board a flight. He has now been indicted on charges of supporting a foreign terrorist organization, attempted membership in such a group, and preparing a serious act of violence. Federal prosecutors said in a statement that the suspect initially planned to carry out an attack in Germany, possibly on the Israeli Embassy. He allegedly found instructions for making explosives on the internet but was unable to pursue the plan because he couldn't get a hold of the necessary components. At the same time, the suspect was allegedly translating propaganda into Russian and Chechen for IS. Prosecutors said he intended to join the group in Pakistan and get military training, and that he financed the trip by taking out two contracts for expensive smartphones, which he then sold. He allegedly sent a video declaring loyalty to the group to a suspected IS member outside of Germany shortly before his departure. The indictment was filed earlier this month to a court in Berlin, which will now have to decide whether to send the case to trial.
