Wales football legend Gareth Bale rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names in Hollywood on Monday night but ended up stealing the headlines himself as he made a huge announcement.
The 35-year-old dressed up smart to appear on the red carpet in London's Leicester Square for the European premiere of F1 The Movie, with Brad Pitt - who plays the lead role of ex-Formula One driver Sonny Hayes in the new film - among the top acting talents in attendance.

Tom Cruise also made a surprise attendance at the premiere, while F1 great Lewis Hamilton - who stars in and helped produced the film - was there alongside the rest of the cast, which includes Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies and Javier Bardem.

Donning a suit, Bale appeared on the red carpet alongside his wife Emma Rhys-Jones and posed with Pitt by a Formula One car outside the Cineworld theatre at the London landmark.
However, the former Wales captain threatened to upstage the Hollywood royalty in attendance as he confirmed rumours that he plans to buy Cardiff City.

WalesOnline learned last week that a consortium including Bale had made an offer directly to current Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan last week, only for that offer to be rejected.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Bale confirmed his interest in buying his hometown club and taking them back to the Premier League, following their recent relegation to League One - but played a straight bat to questions over whether a second offer is to soon follow.
"We are interested in getting Cardiff," the former Real Madrid and Tottenham star said. "It's my home club, it's where I grew up and my uncle [Chris Pike] used to play for them. To be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.

"It's a club close to my heart. It's where I grew up and I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.
"I know how amazing the Welsh fans and Cardiff fans are. It would be amazing to try and do something together."
Pitt was joined by Tom Cruise, who made a surprise appearance at the premiere

Bale later made similar comments in an interview with talkSPORT as he denied reports that he was keen to buy Plymouth Argyle, which emerged before his interest in taking over Cardiff was made public, adding: "I have no idea where [that] came from".
He said: "It's always been Cardiff that we've been trying to get and obviously being from Cardiff, it's obviously where I was born, where I grew up.
"I'm very passionate, obviously I know how passionate the Wales fans and the Cardiff fans are, so it's an interesting time. Exciting time, and hopefully something can be done.

"It will be exciting to be part of an ownership group and would love to go down that route."
On whether fans could now expect a second offer, Bale added: "I can't say too much. But, like I said, we would love to be part of that Cardiff ownership and take Cardiff back where they belong."

Lyon relegated to Ligue 2 over financial problems

The seven-time French champions were hit with a provisional relegation back in November after racking up massive debts, and although they have since sold a number of first-team players, French football watchdog the DNCG upheld the relegation following meetings on Tuesday. The decision was announced by the French Football League (LFP) on Tuesday evening. Monaco, Nantes and Paris FC will face no further action. Although Lyon can still appeal against the ruling, the decision to relegate a club that won seven consecutive titles between 2001-02 and 2007-08, and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League as recently as 2020, will send shockwaves through French football. The Parc Olympique Lyonnais will host second-tier football next season (Adam Davy/PA) The club's president John Textor told L'Equipe last week he was confident the club's financial position had been resolved, having said back in November there was 'no chance' the club would be relegated. Textor is in the process of selling his shares in Premier League club Crystal Palace, who are at risk of being denied their place in the Europa League next season as Lyon have also qualified after finishing sixth in Ligue 1. A sale to Woody Johnson, owner of the NFL's New York Jets, has been agreed but the Premier League is yet to ratify the deal and Johnson must yet pass the Premier League's owners' and directors' test. After receiving the provisional relegation last year, Lyon sold the likes of Said Benrahma, Anthony Lopes and Maxence Caqueret in January, and this summer they have already sold Rayan Cherki to Manchester City.

The Eagles qualified for the competition after winning the FA Cup final. But Textor's other club, French giants Lyon, had qualified through their Ligue 1 finish. And Uefa rules meant that Palace would have been unable to participate unless Textor walked away. The Championship club are no longer being funded by wantaway owner Dejphon Chansiri, who has so far rejected bids of around £48m. Wednesday's former owner Milan Madaric has jetted in for showdown talks over a return to Hillsborough. But The Star claims Textor could now come to the table as he looks to remain an investor in English football. BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Like many suitors, Textor is likely to see Wednesday as sleeping giants who would be revitalised by a return to the Premier League. It comes after another American consortium revealed plans to build a new 55,000-seater stadium should they replace Chansiri. Crystal Palace could be KICKED OUT of Europa League before a ball is even kicked Adam Shaw said: 'Sheffield Wednesday are nowhere in America. We sell zero shirts and have no commercial presence there – that's got to change. 'With the World Cup in the US next year and with the individuals we have in our ownership group, we could easily become Florida's English football team. 'We should and can be way bigger than Wrexham. Ryan Reynolds would give his left leg to have what we already have at Wednesday in terms of our history and fanbase. Let's use that. 'We wouldn't do anything without consulting the fans, but we think the club should have a home where people can park more easily and have up-to-date facilities. 'If we want to create a culture that ensures we become a sustainable, competitive and successful Premier League side, then we must be proactive. Premier League clubs are all upgrading their stadiums.'
