Four dead as security forces, Druze fighters clash near Damascus: monitor
A monitor of Syria's conflict said Tuesday that at least four Druze fighters were killed in overnight clashes with security forces after they stormed a Damascus suburb.
"Heavy clashes erupted in Jaramana after security forces and affiliated gunmen stormed" areas of the mostly Druze and Christian suburb, after "the circulation of an audio recording, attributed to a Druze citizen, containing religious insults", said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) monitor, adding that at least four Druze fighters were killed.
A Jaramana resident told AFP they heard gunfire and shelling during the clashes, which lasted around half an hour.
The Spiritual Council of the Druze Muslim community in Jaramana strongly condemned a recent audio recording circulating online that allegedly insulted the Prophet Muhammad, calling it "fabricated" and part of a broader plot to incite sectarian strife and destabilize social peace.
In an official statement, the council also denounced the armed attack that targeted the city, noting that most of those injured or killed were local residents and members of the General Security Directorate.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to unity and rejected all forms of incitement and division, urging authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and hold all those involved accountable to preserve civil peace and the city's security.
Separately, Syria's Ministry of Interior said it has been closely following the viral audio recording that contains offensive remarks against the Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement, the ministry said relevant authorities launched a comprehensive investigation, and preliminary findings indicate that the individual accused has not yet been conclusively linked to the recording.
The ministry affirmed that efforts are ongoing to identify the speaker and bring them to justice in accordance with national laws.
It also expressed appreciation to citizens for their sincere emotions and religious devotion, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public order and avoiding any individual or collective actions that could compromise public safety or property.

'Israeli' strikes hit Syrian coast, Damascus reports civilian killed
An 'Israeli' airstrike on Syria's western coast killed one civilian and injured three others on Friday, according to Syrian state media. The strikes targeted military facilities in the Latakia region, marking the first such attack in nearly a month. Syria's official news agency SANA reported that the attack hit near the village of Zama in the Jableh countryside, south of Latakia. Syrian state television described the incident as an 'Israeli occupation airstrike.' The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes targeted military positions and weapons depots in both the Latakia and Tartus governorates. In a statement Friday night, 'Israeli' Defense Minister Israel Katz said 'Israel' destroyed strategic weapons across Syria that posed a 'direct threat' to the country. 'There will be no immunity for anyone,' he said. 'We will not allow threats to the State of Israel and will continue defending its security.' The escalation comes just weeks after reports emerged of indirect negotiations with Israel in May aimed at reducing tensions.

UAE facilitates secret 'Israel'-Syria talks: Reuters
The United Arab Emirates has initiated a covert channel for discussions between 'Israel' and Syria, Reuters reported, citing three informed sources. As Syria's new leadership seeks regional support to navigate a deteriorating relationship with 'Israel', these previously unreported talks focus on security, intelligence, and confidence-building between the two nations, which lack formal diplomatic ties, said a source with direct knowledge, a Syrian security official, and a regional intelligence official. The report says that the effort began shortly after Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa's April 13, 2025, visit to the UAE, with one source describing the talks as centered on 'technical matters' but open to broader topics in the future. The Syrian security source clarified that the channel is strictly limited to security issues, particularly counterterrorism, and excludes military matters like 'Israel's' activities in Syria. UAE and Syrian intelligence officials, along with former 'Israeli' intelligence figures, are among those involved, per the intelligence source. Speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the talks, the sources noted that Syria's presidency, the UAE foreign ministry, and 'Israel's' prime minister's office did not respond to or declined comment. The mediation predates recent 'Israeli' strikes in Syria, including one 500 meters from Damascus' presidential palace, and it's unclear if the channel has been used since. 'Israel' justified the strikes as a warning to Syria demostrar new rulers over threats to the Druze minority, a sect with followers in Syria, Lebanon, and 'Israel'. Other informal mediation efforts to de-escalate tensions occurred last week, though details remain undisclosed, per one source and a regional diplomat. Syria's government denounced 'Israel's' strikes as escalatory interference, emphasizing its efforts to unify the nation after 14 years of conflict. Accordign to the report the new leadership, under Al-Sharaa, has sought to signal non-hostility toward 'Israel', engaging with Jewish community representatives, detaining two Palestinian Islamic Jihad members linked to the October 7, 2023 attack, and sending a letter to the US State Department pledging Syria poses no threat to 'Israel' or others.
