Happy National Girlfriend's Day! You are probably thinking it's all about the 'baes' and the 'boo'd up', but nope!
National Girlfriends Day is also about your squad, your ride-or-dies, your girls who got your back.
It's about celebrating the women in your life who make you laugh until your tummy hurts, who listen to you vent, and who support even your horrible decision-making. Yes, it's through thick and thin.
On this day, many assume that it's all about romantic partners showering each other with love and affection. And, yes, couples often celebrate this special day with romantic getaways, gigantic bouquets and candlelit dinners.
But there are so many ways to celebrate this day, as it does not only have to be attributed to romance for couples but friendships too.
To all the single ladies? No pressure! One of the most beautiful things about National Girlfriends Day is that it can be celebrated in so many different ways. You can plan a fun trip with your friends, whether it's a quick weekend escape or a longer vacation.
Or, you can have a fun day at your favourite restaurant, get a matching friendship tattoo if you're feeling more adventurous and even go for a walk reminiscing on the good times. The girlhood possibilities are endless.
Some friends are even going the extra mile, like one TikTok user @girlwithanafro, who surprised her best friend with a billboard on her birthday, featuring a slideshow of pictures and a heartfelt message.
That's the kind of gesture that will make your friend feel truly special.
While sometimes our finances are not the same and vacations will not be on the cards, something that does not require a lot of money or no money at all will definitely work.
Even a simple message letting your girls know that you appreciate them will always go a long way.
Here are ways/gift ideas for National Girlfriends Day:
As girls, we love to capture memories, especially on a day or night out, looking all beautiful. A DIY gift bag which contains a picture of a memorable day that you both treasure and items that your friend loves will certainly stick out!
Since August 1 falls on a Friday, surely the squad will appreciate a girls' night filled with fun board games, including your favourite snacks and wine.
Another date night idea that your friends will definitely love is a chill indoor date night full of relaxation after a tiring, long week, catching up on some gossip and then taking turns watching your favourite movies.
In addition, celebrate sisterhood with heartfelt letters to each other or do a fun memory jar.
TikTok users have shared sweet messages that you can send to your squad, here are a few of them:

Grannies football tourney founder launches new online show

LIMPOPO – Touching and transforming lives is what Beka Ntsan'wisi does best, and now, she is doing it again through social media. Affectionately known as Mama Beka, she is the founder of the Grannies International Football Tournament. Now she has returned to broadcasting with a new online show that is already reaching thousands of viewers across Facebook and TikTok, recently surpassing one million views. Her new programme, Katekani na Mama Beka, is a motivational talk show featuring pastors and inspirational speakers who aim to uplift and encourage audiences. Mama Beka says the show was born out of public demand; longtime fans of her former radio show Sisumuka u Vangama on Mughana Lonene FM urged her to start her own platform. The show airs live every Thursday from 18:00 to 19:00, and on Sunday mornings from 07:00 to 08:00. It also includes live performances by local musicians such as singer Felicia Majozi and keyboardist Mohale Majozi, among other notable artists. 'It was never my plan to start this kind of show again,' she admits, 'but people kept asking for it, and my younger brother, filmmaker Sam Ntsan'wisi, encouraged me to seize the opportunity.' Widely regarded as 'the mother of the nation,' Mama Beka has launched a new initiative, the Va Mhani Football Tournament, catering to women aged 30 to 50. An international edition of the tournament is scheduled for March next year in Mexico, with teams of women from across the globe expected to participate. To catch her inspiring broadcasts and stay updated on her projects, follow Beka Ntsan'wisi on Facebook or on TikTok @mamabekantsanwisi.
