Bill Chisholm, Wyc Grousbeck release individual statements on the sale of Celtics
Massive news dropped on Thursday, as the Boston Celtics were reportedly sold for $7.3 billion to new majority owner Bill Chisholm of Symphony Technology Group. The sale of the Celtics was reported by ESPN as the largest for a sports franchise in North America history, after it was first reported to be a sale of $6.1 billion, an updated report stated that the sale will be done in two parts.
Following the announcement of the sale, current Celtics governor and owner Wyc Grousbeck released a statement about Chisholm and revealed that he would stay on as CEO and governor for the first three years according to Boston.com
"Bill is a terrific person and a true Celtics fan, born and raised here in the Boston area. His love for the team and the city of Boston, along with his chemistry with the rest of the Celtics leadership, make him a natural choice to be the next Governor and controlling owner of the team. I know he appreciates the importance of the Celtics and burns with a passion to win on the court while being totally committed to the community. Quite simply, he wants to be a great owner. He has asked me to run the team as CEO and Governor for the first three years, and stay on as his partner, and I am glad to do so."
Along with Grousbeck, Chisholm released his own statement about the purchase of the Boston Celtics, who he has been a lifelong fan of, and stated he understands the importance of the team to the city and welcomes the challenge as the new owner.
"Growing up on the North Shore and attending college in New England, I have been a die-hard Celtics fan my entire life,' said Chisholm. 'I understand how important the Celtics are to the city of Boston – the role the team plays in the community is different than any other city in the country. I also understand that there is a responsibility as a leader of the organization to the people of Boston, and I am up for this challenge."
He also praised Grousbeck and said he looks forward to learning from him and the rest of the Celtics top regime as he makes the transition over to his new role.
"My partners and I have immense respect for Wyc, the entire Grousbeck family and their indelible contributions to the Celtics organization over the last 23 years. We look forward to learning from Wyc and partnering with Brad Stevens, Joe Mazzulla and the talented team and staff to build upon their success as we work to bring more championships home to Boston."

Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard scores 50 in Rose City Pro-Am

The NBA offseason may be the summer doldrums to fans and analysts of the league both, but for some players, it is high time to show off their scoring skills in offseason tourneys and runs. Among the most infamous in this regard is Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard, who has become such a prolific scorer in such summer events that he has picked up the sobriquet "Pro-Am P" for his frequent setting of scoring records in such events. Fresh on the heels of breaking his own scoring record of 61 points at the "Ball Don't Stop" Pro-Am with a 68-point outburst, Pritchard continued with his offseason scoring assault anew at the Rose City Pro-Am, where the University of Oregon alum put up an impressive 50 burger. It can be harder to find footage of Fast PP on the court doing his thing in such contexts, so the folks behind the "Home Team Hoops" YouTube channel put together a clip of his highlights from that half-centennial scoring night. Report: Boston Celtics looking to move Anfernee Simons before 2026 NBA trade deadline

Don't get used to having Anfernee Simons around too much, Boston Celtics fans. The Stein Line's Jake Fischer recently reported that the Celtics are still trying to move the former Portland Trail Blazers guard to another team. But it does not appear that the front office is in a hurry to do so, based on the framing of Fischer's report. Per the Stein Line reporter, an "expectation persists, furthermore, that Boston will continue to invite trade discussion involving Anfernee Simons from now through next season's trade deadline." Note the phrasing here -- this seems to be coming from external sources likely in talks at some point over the course of the 2025 NBA offseason to such an effect. This tracks with how the Celtics tend to operate, rarely leaking news about their plans themselves. Fischer's report had a few other nuggets related to Boston's offseason to date, including the fact that the Celtics unsurprisingly spoke with a number of teams about moving reserve forward Georges Niang before Boston ultimately dealt him to the Utah Jazz with a pair of seconds for cap savings for two way wing RJ Luis Jr. Per Fischer, the Jazz plan to hang on to Niang for the short term at least, and the Golden State Warriors remain locked in a "staring contest" with forward Jonathan Kuminga. While not mentioned directly in the piece by Fischer, said deadlock is likely holding up another of the last of Boston's offseason business, namely the free agency of vet big man Al Horford. It is all but certain Horford is gone to the Dubs, but until Kuminga's situation sorts itself out, the thinking is that Horford will have to wait to sign with his new NBA home. Retirement or perhaps taking a darkhorse offer out of impatience with the situation remain as less likely outcomes, but there has been little reporting hinting this might actually take place.
