Colorado State basketball fans pack Fort Collins restaurants as Rams move on to second round of NCAA tournament

CBS News21-03-2025

Hundreds of diehard Colorado State University basketball fans packed into several restaurants and bars in Fort Collins Friday, as the Rams took on the Memphis Tigers in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
"It is exciting as heck to watch the Rams in the NCAA tournament, and to see what the coach has done with this team," said Shawn Dunnigan, a CSU season ticket holder for 15 years.
Dunnigan and many others gathered at C.B. & Potts in Fort Collins for one of the several official watch parties.
The game, which started at noon, was being played in Seattle. The Rams
went on to win their first NCAA tournament game since 2013
when they knocked down the Missouri Tigers.
Dunnigan said it has been fun watching the Rams succeed and make it to the big dance several times in recent seasons. And, he has enjoyed seeing the teams be led by players with NBA-caliber talent.
"First it was (David) Roddy, then it was Isaiah Stevens and now it is Nique Clifford. It is just fantastic to see the talent that comes through this program. Every year it is different and every year it is exciting," Dunnigan said.
The parties are also great for local businesses, resulting in restaurants like C.B. & Potts having to nearly turn away some guests due to being at capacity on a Friday morning and early afternoon.
Dunnigan said he is optimistic the Rams have at least a couple more wins in them as their current winning streak is at 12.
"I picked them to go to the sweet 16," Dunnigan said. "Go Rams."
The Rams will play Sunday against the winner of the Maryland vs. Grand Canyon game.

CBS Sports grades Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan's 2025 roster

CBS Sports grades Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan's 2025 roster Texas A&M's best coaching move in several years came this spring, as Athletic Director Trev Alberts took a gamble that has already paid off after hiring former Samford head coach Bucky McMillan to take over the basketball program after Buzz Williams departed for Maryland after six years at the helm. So far, McMillan has completely rebuilt his first 2025 roster, adding 12 players from the transfer portal, while his latest addition, Spanish guard Rubèn Domíguez, could be one of the most impactful players due to his vast international experience and elite 3-point shooting skillset. However, signing former Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbako, shooting guard Rylan Griffen and Creighton transfer guard Pop Issacs deserved the headlines as potential stars who should lead the Aggies in several categories next season. With all this movement that has made a once-fringe NCAA Tournament team a potential contender during McMillan's inaugural season, CBS Sports's David Cobb provided his roster grades for every first-year head coach, and to no surprise, Texas A&M received an A- based on the talent and experience on the 2025 roster. Here's what Dodd had to say regarding his grade: "How would McMillan fare recruiting at a big-boy job after arriving from Samford with exactly zero high-major experience of any sort on his resume? The answer, as it turns out, is just fine. The Aggies have assembled a competitive roster highlighted by three top-80 transfers and plenty of outside shooting. Pop Isaacs (Creighton/Texas Tech) and Jacari Lane (North Alabama) are serious bucket-getters in the backcourt, while Rylan Griffen (Kansas/Alabama) and Mackenzie Mgbako (Indiana) can pop it from the wing." "The question will be whether the roster is deep enough for McMillan to employ the breakneck pace and deep rotation that defines "Buckyball." But his first wave is certainly not hurting for SEC-caliber talent, and the early June addition of 22-year old Spanish shooter Ruben Dominguez helps alleviate that concern." Ahead of his first season with Maryland, Buzz Williams' 2025 roster received a B+, while new Texas coach Arch Miller received the same grade. Dodd is 100% correct in questioning if A&M's roster is deep enough to master McMillan's intense system, but the shooting is there, and he still has two roster spots available to reach the 15-player roster maximum. Nobody on the Boston Celtics roster is untouchable

Nobody on the Boston Celtics roster is untouchable Nobody on the Boston Celtics roster is untouchable if the offer is right. Or at least that is the prevailing wisdom among some fans and analysts of the storied ball club as they gear up to make moves this offseason to reduce their historic cap hit and tax bill by moving some players into the cap structure of other NBA teams. The more likely candidates include the likes of veteran guard Jrue Holiday, Latvian big man Kristaps Porzingis, and reserve forward Sam Hauser due to their large deals for the latter two and movable salary for Hauser. But there have been rumbles of interest for point guard Derrick White, and speculation that even Jaylen Brown might be fair game. Could star forward Jayson Tatum be attainable if the right offer came along? The hosts of the CLNS Media "How Bout Them Celtics!" podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below! Tyrese Haliburton Reveals His Theory On Why Fans Criticize His Game

Tyrese Haliburton Reveals His Theory On Why Fans Criticize His Game originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton is used to being counted out. He's been the underdog for the entirety of his career, and the doubters are out in full force during the 2025 NBA Finals. In a chat with the media before Game 2, Haliburton explained why so many people have trouble accepting his game and continue to question his place as one of the top players in the game. Advertisement "It's unorthodox," said Haliburton, via Brett Siegel. "My jumper, the way it looks, it [has] always been criticized coming into the NBA. I think that was honestly a big part of it. I think sometimes I affect the game that isn't necessarily the gaudy, box score numbers. The way the game is digested by the fans sometimes. I think it's a lot of boxscore watchers. So when my box score doesn't look the way it's supposed to, that's a part of it as well. I don't know the answer, but I know it's probably not going to stop anytime soon." Every NBA star meets some resistance from the NBA community, but it seems like Haliburton is critiqued and overlooked more than most. Despite his success with the Pacers and as a point guard in general, Hali gets a lot of heat from the critics, who cite him as inconsistent and overrated. Tyrese believes it has to do with his unusual game, which includes an awkward jumper and unseen ways of impacting the court. While he's not a shooter like Stephen Curry or a flashy dunker like Ja Morant, he's become something else entirely, and not everyone is so quick to embrace it. For the Pacers, his impact is more than enough, and it's taken them to places they haven't seen in decades. As a juggernaut in the East, the Pacers know Haliburton's true worth, even if the haters continue to downplay his greatness. Advertisement At this point, the only way for Haliburton to silence the critics is by stepping up when the Pacers need him most. With averages of 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game on 47.3% shooting, he was a beast in the regular season, and he's been even better in the playoffs. In 17 games in the playoffs so far, Haliburton has led the Pacers to a 13-4 record with averages of 18.5 points, 9.5 assists, and 5.9 rebounds on 46.6% shooting. With multiple comeback victories, the Pacers cruised through the East, and now they are just three wins away from becoming NBA champions. If Haliburton continues this trajectory, nobody will be able to deny his status as one of the best players in the game and a defining point guard of the modern NBA. At just 25 years old, his career is approaching Hall of Fame territory, and there's still so much time for him to add to his resume. Fueled by the words of the doubters and naysayers, Haliburton plans to dominate the league for years to come, and he will go to any lengths to help ensure a championship for his team. No matter how unorthodox his game may be. Haliburton deserves respect and recognition as the NBA superstar that he is.
