Production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with an annual capacity of 50,000 units comprising electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engine models.
The facility forms part of Saudi Arabia's strategy to develop its domestic automotive industry, with the King Salman Automotive Cluster envisioned as the kingdom's future manufacturing hub.
Over 200 officials and dignitaries from both countries attended the ceremony, including Saudi Industry Minister Bandar Alkhorayef and Hyundai Motor Group Vice Chairman Chang Jae Hoon.
Chang said the groundbreaking represents the start of a new era for Hyundai and Saudi Arabia, and expressed confidence that the new plant will support the kingdom's Vision 2030 goals by nurturing local talent with advanced mobility expertise.
'Today's groundbreaking marks the beginning of a new chapter for both Saudi Arabia and Hyundai Motor, as we lay the foundation for a new era of future mobility and technological innovation,' he said.
Hyundai Motor said the plant is expected to create thousands of jobs in Saudi Arabia, facilitate knowledge transfer, and strengthen the local industrial base.

Journalism Builds Self-confidence, Strong Foundation For Career Growth

By Fadzlina Abu Bakar Sidek IPOH, June 5 (Bernama) -- The ability to interact with the public, work under pressure, possess broad knowledge on various issues, and manage time effectively are among the key strengths of a journalist. A career in journalism, often marked by tight deadlines, naturally trains individuals to master time management, a valuable skill that serves as a strong foundation for career growth, especially for those looking to transition into other fields. For A. Subatra Adacapan, 37, now an executive officer at Wisma Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial in Ipoh, Perak, his 11 years of experience as a journalist with two Tamil-language newspapers and the Free Malaysia Today portal have proven invaluable in his current role. "Dealing with the public at Socso (Social Security Organisation) isn't an issue for me because I'm already accustomed to interacting with people from all walks of life. "Moreover, my exposure to the country's economic, social, and political landscape during my time as a journalist has helped me adapt well as an employee of a statutory body that aligns with national policies," he told Bernama. The mother of two also shared that her background in journalism helped her better understand the challenges faced by the public and heightened her awareness of the importance of Socso contributions. Meanwhile, Mohammad Syafiq Mohd Akhir, 33, who is now involved in the sales and service industry, said his five years as a broadcast journalist with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Perak transformed him from an introvert into an extrovert. "Today, I'm much more confident when interacting with customers because my time as a journalist taught me how to engage with people from all walks of life.

Ringgit opens higher against greenback amid weaker US economic data

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opens marginally higher against the US dollar on Thursday, amid weaker-than-expected United States (US) economic data and tariff uncertainties, an analyst said. At 8 am, the local note inched up to 4.2410/2495 versus the greenback from Wednesday's close of 4.2435/2490. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the US Dollar Index (DXY) was down by 0.44 per cent to 98.787 points, as economic indicators surprised on the downside. He said the US Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Index for the services sector fell below the 50-point demarcation line to 49.9 in May, defying consensus estimates of 52.0 points. "Based on the survey response by the ISM, import tariff was the major source of uncertainties among businesses as it has raised the raw material prices, and some suppliers are holding back inventory given the tariff uncertainties. "This may lead to stronger emerging market currencies, including as the traders and investors would be reassessing the strength of the US economy, and therefore, Friday's Nonfarm Payroll will be another important barometer to look at," he told Bernama. He also noted that the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee meeting on June 16-17 would be another critical milestone, as the US Federal Reserve staff will issue their latest macroeconomic forecast for the next three years. At the opening, the ringgit traded lower against a basket of major currencies. It slid against the Japanese yen to 2.9705/9767 from Wednesday's close of 2.9444/9486, fell vis-a-vis the euro to 4.8428/8525 from 4.8300/8362, and depreciated against the British pound to 5.7466/7581 from 5.7427/7502 previously. The local note also traded mostly lower against its ASEAN peers. It traded flat versus the Philippine peso at 7.60/7.62, unchanged from its close on Wednesday. However, the ringgit declined against the Singapore dollar to 3.2973/304 from 3.2906/2951 on yesterday's close, weakened versus the Thai baht to 13.0132/0493 from 12.9679/9911, and eased versus the Indonesian rupiah at 260.2/260.8 compared to 260.4/260.8 previously. - Bernama

Malaysia's public transport usage just at 20 pct, says Loke

Loke says the percentage of public transport usage in Malaysia has only reached 20 per cent to date. – Bernama photo PETALING JAYA (June 5): The percentage of public transport usage in Malaysia has only reached 20 per cent to date, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He said the figure remains below the 40 per cent target outlined in the National Transport Policy 2019–2030. 'The national transport policy from 2019 to 2030 is already in place. So, our challenge is how to ensure that this policy is realised according to its intended goals,' he said when met after the Ilmuwan Malaysia Madani Siri 6 forum at Menara Prasarana here yesterday. The forum discussed the topic 'Transportation for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport', chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In addition to Loke, other panel members were President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, and Universiti Putra Malaysia Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah. Commenting further, Loke said the implementation of the 'Road to Rail' initiative is currently being carried out in phases and is expected to have a significant impact on the country's logistics sector. 'We are actively promoting the use of rail. That's why one of our focus initiatives is 'Road to Rail' , to encourage more usage of railways for the transportation of containers and goods,' he said. 'When the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is completed, it will boost the use of rail to transport goods and containers to the East Coast, thereby reducing reliance on road transport such as lorries,' he added.
