At Least 18 Dead and 48 Injured After Double-Decker Bus Crashes Over Slope, Splits in Half: Shocking Footage
A double-decker bus in Peru crashed and landed upside down after careening over a slope, killing at least 18 people and injuring 48.
The region's Health Director, Clifor Curipaco, told reporters that the bus was traveling from Lima towards the country's Amazon forests, specifically in the Junín region, on Friday, July 25, when the tragedy occurred, according to the Associated Press.
The bus, owned by the company Expreso Molina Líder Internacional, was carrying more than 60 people when it crashed into a ravine, per DW News. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident, according to the outlet.
Video of the aftermath of the crash shows police and rescue workers sifting through wreckage and attempting to maneuver themselves inside the overturned vehicle. The footage shows the bus split in two in the wake of the fall.
This is not the first major fatal bus crash in Peru this year. A bus crashed into a river in January, killing six people and injuring 32 others. A previous bus accident in April 2024 resulted in the death of 24 people, making it the deadliest crash in the country in several years.
A report from the country's Attorney General's office stated that recklessness and excessive speed are the leading causes of vehicular accidents in Peru, per the AP.

Boy, 11, thought ‘he was going to die' after being knocked down in hit and run
A young boy who suffered two broken hips in a hit-and-run crash while riding an e-scooter has said: "I thought I was going to die." Bradley Hooper, 11, was riding his cousin's e-scooter when he was hit by a black Vauxhall coming from Sullivan Road into Montague Avenue, Sholing. His mum Hollie Hooper, 30, was told by a witness he went "down like a ragdoll' in the incident on Wednesday just after 7.20pm. Speaking while still in hospital, Bradley said the people in the car 'drove off and left me'. He said: 'I thought I was going to die and thought: 'I love my family, and my mum is my angel'. 'I have scary dreams of them coming to get me and running me over again." Bradley added: 'Thank you to everyone who cares for me and loves me.' Devastated mum-of-four Hollie said Bradley is waiting to see if he needs surgery. She said he is worried about returning home to Sholing in case the drive comes back. 'I rushed there as soon as I could when they told me and the police were on the scene straight away', she said. 'The driver nearly killed Bradley and I am disgusted and mortified.' Hampshire Constabulary confirmed an investigation into the incident is underway. A spokesperson said: 'We were called at 7.21pm on July 30 with reports of a car colliding with a pedestrian on Montague Avenue. 'The pedestrian, an 11-year-old boy, sustained fractures to his hips. Search intensifies for five trapped in giant Chile copper mine
Rescue teams in Chile searched Friday for five miners trapped after a partial collapse triggered by a tremor killed one colleague and halted operations at the world's largest underground copper mine. At least 100 people were involved in the perilous search effort nearly 12 hours after the event was registered, said Andres Music, general manager of El Teniente mine in Rancagua, some 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of Santiago. "So far, we have not been able to communicate with them. The tunnels are closed, they are collapsed," he told reporters on Friday. The miners had been working at a depth of more than 900 meters when the collapse happened. Their exact location has been pinpointed with specialized equipment. Michael Miranda, brother of missing miner Jean Miranda, 31, told AFP the men's families were desperate for news. "They haven't explained anything to us. No one has approached us to talk to us, to tell us if my brother is okay or not," he said outside the offices of state mining giant Codelco in Rancagua. Jean's wife was pregnant, he added, "and no one from the company has approached her to talk. No psychological support, nothing." Mining minister Aurora Williams earlier announced the temporary cessation of activity at the mine, which began operating in the early 1900s and boasts more than 4,500 kilometers (some 2,800 miles) of underground tunnels.
