Michael J Fox appeals for help in finding lost guitar played by Marty McFly in Back To The Future
However, in 2025 the guitar's creators might be wishing they had time-travelling capabilities of their own as the location of the Cherry Red Gibson ES-345 is a mystery 40 years after the film's release.
Gibson, based in Nashville, Texas, is asking for helping tracking down the instrument as the company produces a new documentary about the search called Lost To The Future.
Filmmakers had gone looking for the instrument while making the movie's 1989 sequel but it was nowhere to be found.
In a trailer shared on X, stars from the movie including Michael J Fox, who played Marty McFly, and Christopher Lloyd who played Doc Brown, have appealed to viewers to help try to find the guitar.
Lloyd, in the cadence of eccentric inventor Doc Brown, says in the video that the guitar has been "lost to the future".
"It's somewhere lost in the space-time continuum," says Fox. "Or it's in some Teamster's garage."
Harry Waters Jr, who played Marvin Berry in the film, says the instrument was last seen in 1985.
In the film, McFly steps in for an injured band member at a 1955 school dance before leading the band into a rendition of Johnny B Goode.
The time-traveller refers to it is an "oldie where I come from" as the 1958 song doesn't yet exist for his audience.
The students at the dance fall into an awkward silence as McFly's riffs turn increasingly wild.

Appearing on her friend Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast, Amy said: 'Just to get it out the way, people want to see you and want to see how you are, they love you. You've had this terrible, terrible, tragic year... 'You lost your husband, you've been dealing with that and you've been looking for all different ways in which to feel and find support.' When Amy asked how she was feeling, Aubrey stated: 'Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall, I'm here and I'm functioning. At all times there's like a giant ocean of awfulness, that's like right there and I can see it... 'Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it's always there.' Ahead of her television acting debut, the official Doctor Odyssey TikTok account shared a clip that was taken on set to promote the show. With her hair pulled back into a loose ponytail and with a colourful sarong wrapped around her waist, Ava urged fans to watch. She said, "Hi y'all, it's Ava Phillippe, playing Veronica on the spring break episode of Doctor Odyssey. Tune in!" Commenting, one fan replied, "She really looks like her mom." Another added, "Isn't that Reese Witherspoon's daughter?!" And a third said, "The fact that she reminds me exactly of her mom and her dad at the same time is wild." Reese, 49, and her Cruel Intentions co-star Ryan, 50, welcomed Ava into the world in 1999, just three months after they had married. Four years later, they became parents again to son Deacon before splitting in 2006. 4 4
