Rising star Keymer expects plenty of hard-fought games at Chennai Grand Masters
The World No. 21 is in the city for the Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters tournament, beginning on Wednesday.
'It is a very interesting field. There are many young and ambitious players, so I am expecting a lot of hard-fought games. I just want to play good chess,' he told The Hindu.
About working with Gukesh, Keymer said 'It was certainly special for me. It was the first time that I did this kind of work and it was interesting.'
Special ability
'I learnt quite a few things during that time. It is very tough to say what exactly translates into my play or level, but there are things that I learnt that are helpful for my own performances,' he said.
Asked what was special about Gukesh, he said the Indian is quite flexible in his repertoire. 'Of course, his fighting spirit is very good… he can find a way and understand positions that are very tough to understand. He also calculates extremely well.'
Emphasising that qualifying for the Candidates, the tournament to identify the challenger to Gukesh, would be tough, Keymer said, 'Qualifying for the Candidates is more or less the main focus for the next few months.
' Obviously, it is going to be very tough, but I am going to give it my all.'

Harry got us into that position by playing a particular way, putting the Indian bowlers under the immense pressure to take them away from being able to consistently bowl the areas that they wanted to bowl. Tailender Chris Woakes came out to bat despite a fractured left arm, tied up and strapped, and Stokes termed it 'unbelievable'. 'It was never going to be a question for him to go out there. He was in a lot of discomfort running between the wickets there, but we've had Rishab up going out and back with a broken foot, Bash (Bashir) going out there bowling and batting fielding with a broken finger,' the skipper said. 'Then we go to Chris out there today trying and get his team over the line with the quite recently dislocated shoulder. Former Olympians hunt for next batch of stars at Agnel Ashram
Former great and Olympian Joaquim Carvalho trains young hockey players at Fr. Agnel Multipurpose High School, Verna Panaji: Former Olympians Mervyn Fernandis and Joaquim Carvalho were on hand as Fr. Agnel Multipurpose High School and Agnel Ashram, Verna, ushered in a new beginning through the launch of the hockey training programme as part of the curriculum for students of Class II and Class III. The hockey programme witnessed nearly 90 students from Class II and III listen eagerly to the advice from the former Arjuna Award winners. Fernandis and Carvalho are among the legends of Indian hockey with the former winning gold at the Moscow Olympics and two silver medals at the Asian Games. Carvalho, part of the Indian team at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, won silver at the Delhi Asiad and later coached the national team. Fernandis was all praise for the priests at Agnel Ashram for this initiative that is expected to act as a blueprint for grassroots development of hockey, particularly in South Goa. He was in awe of the changing landscape of the institute in Verna that has seen the laying of a new hockey turf. 'The priests of this school have proved that it is not just about words, but deeds as well,' said Fernandis. 'Today, we not only have a top-class hockey facility here, but we also have our children training seriously with an eye on a hockey career in the future. The initiative is the brainchild of Fr. Agnelo Gomes, director of the Agnel Technical Education Complex. The program has been integrated into the school physical education curriculum, so that the students don't have to stay after school or return in the evening. Coach Anselm Gabriel will be overseeing the entire coaching programme. He will visit the school three times a week, with the sessions being worked out from 8.50am to 10.15am.

Imphal, August 4, 2025: A stunning long-range strike from midfielder Rohen Singh proved to be the difference as Real Kashmir FC edged past a spirited TRAU FC 2-1 in a gripping Group F contest of the 134th IndianOil Durand Cup, here at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. Earlier, the match came alive with two quickfire goals in the 24th and 26th minutes, first from Real Kashmir's Marat Tareck and then TRAU's Afridi Buyamayum, setting the tone for a fiercely contested battle in front of over 20,000 fans in attendance. But it was Rohen's 64th-minute rocket from outside the box that ultimately sealed the deal for the Snow Leopards, clinching three vital points, despite a spirited fight from the home side. TRAU FC head coach Thangjam Saran Singh opted for an all-Indian 4-2-3-1 starting eleven with Afridi Buyamayum leading the line, flanked by wingers Monis Singh and Dhananjoy Singh, while Sapam Singh manned the goal.
