Kerala CM hosted dinner for governors to evade questions on CMRL case: Sudhakaran

Time of India28-04-2025

T'puram: KPCC president
K Sudhakaran
alleged that chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan hosted a dinner for BJP-appointed governors in order to escape questions over the
monthly pay-off case
involving his daughter Veena T.
He said the event was a continuation of discussions held at Kerala House in New Delhi with Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan. Sudhakaran pointed out that this unusual move came just as the monthly payment case reached a crucial stage. He claimed it was another instance of secret deals between Vijayan and BJP.
Sudhakaran further alleged that CPM central committee member PK Sreemathi was removed from the party's state secretariat because she refused to back Vijayan in the monthly pay-off case. He said that Sreemathi, who served as a minister, MP, MLA, central committee member, and national president of All India Democratic Women's Association, faced such action despite her stature. According to Sudhakaran, mere support is not enough for Pinarayi — only those who constantly praise him with titles like 'Sun', 'Arjuna' and 'Warrior' can survive in the party. Even leaders like AK Balan, from the backward community, are struggling despite their loyalty, Sudhakaran added.
He also criticised the contradictory statements regarding Sreemathi's removal. While state secretary MV Govindan claimed it was an organisational decision, general secretary MA Baby said no ban was imposed, he said. Sudhakaran accused the state leadership of openly disregarding the national leadership, suggesting that national leaders are merely ornamental figures nurtured by Vijayan.

Sudhakaran said that despite the high court's direction and the registration of a CBI FIR, Vijayan continues to protect his principal secretary KM Abraham. He alleged that this protection is a safeguard for the chief minister himself, in anticipation of facing a similar situation.
"Normally, officials facing an FIR are suspended or removed. But KM Abraham is being shielded by the CM. This could lead to tampering with evidence and derail the investigation," Sudhakaran said, adding that if Abraham is not removed immediately, legal action would follow.

'Doing everything which is against Muslims': Congress leader Rashid Alvi on 11 years of NDA government under PM Modi

Congress leader Rashid Alvi has attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for targeting Muslims by passing laws while failing to tackle the people's inflation problems. Alvi's remarks came on 9 June, as the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 11 years in power at the Centre. "I have to say with regret that you brought the law of triple talaq against the Muslims. Brought the law of Waqf against Muslims, You are doing everything in this country which is against Muslims," Congress leader Rashid Alvi told news agency ANI. The Congress leader highlighted the failures of the Modi-led government by criticising demonetisation, repealing Article 370, not listening to farmers, and not keeping inflation in check. "You don't realise that during demonetisation, during the summer, so many people died, that is your minus point, and you think of it as a plus point. You used to claim that with demonitisation, black money would be finished, is it finished though? Also said that terror will end, but did terror finish? Just now, so many people died in Pahalgam," he said. Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister for the third time on 9 June 2024, With 293 MPs, the NDA comfortably exceeded the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha after the 2024 general elections. Put 8 lakh soldiers in J&K Continuing his jibe at BJP over Kashmir, he added, 'You removed (Article) 370 (from Kashmir), put people in jail, and put 8 lakh soldiers there, but in the last 11 years did you give jobs to people, have you reduced inflation? The Petrol-diesel which you have bought for ₹ 35-40 you are giving the same for ₹ 100 to the people of the country. Farmers kept sitting for two years, you were not ready to listen to them.' As Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government completed 11 years at the Centre, BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda highlighted the various achievements of the government, including good governance, change in India's "political culture," and several bold decisions made. You are doing everything in this country which is against Muslims. Nadda said during a press conference, "The work done under PM Modi's leadership is written in the golden words because of the unimaginable and unique works. PM Modi has changed the country's politics, political culture. The country was appeased 11 years ago. Earlier, saving a political chair by dividing the society was the norm."

Christians desire a change, says Nilambur bypoll NDA candidate Mohan George

MALAPPURAM: Having entered the fray late in the Nilambur by-election, NDA candidate Mohan George is on a mission to widen the front's vote base. TNIE catches up with him for a quick chat. Excerpts Trolls say that your speciality is that you became a candidate first and then took party membership... I am a BJP member. The BJP is a big party. They discuss a lot before choosing their candidate. I was asked about it a week ago. I wasn't that interested. Later, they contacted me several times and many leaders came to me. They probably saw some potential in me. Demographically, a Christian vote base is crucial in this constituency... That may also be a factor. Didn't I say the BJP would have considered all factors when it made me its candidate? How much of a divide can you make among the Christian voters? Christians are the ones who want a change. There has been a huge difference in the attitude of Christians. They don't see the BJP in the same way they used to. Now, they are ready to accept Narendra Modi. They are interested in Narendra Modi's development policies. Wherever I went, many people told me they had already been converted into the BJP but were afraid to admit it publicly. At the same time, there have been incidents where Christians are being attacked, including in north India. Aren't the Christian people you approach here talking about it? That is a misconception. Four states in the northeast are Christian majority states. They say that there are minor problems there. In Kerala, Christians are less than 18-20%. So, it isn't a relevant issue here. It is just a small propaganda against the BJP. How about Manipur riots? In Manipur, it's just an ethnic riot. Is there any chance of winning in Nilambur? Last time, BJP got only 8,500 votes... Yes. Times change, don't they? In the past, the BJP got just two seats in India. But today, it is the party that rules India. It is changing. And let me tell you one more thing. In 2004, P C Thomas contested and won as an NDA candidate in Muvattupuzha. People want a change and it's there in their minds.

Indian Judiciary's commitment to justice transcends borders: Justice Kant

Justice Surya Kant NEW DELHI: Justice Surya Kant of Indian Supreme Court on Monday told the Indian business community in Washington that Indian judiciary understood the problems faced by the Indian diaspora and NRIs and played a crucial role in resolving unique challenges faced by them relating to property, inheritance and custody of children in soured matrimonial relations. Speaking with Indian businessmen from various states gathered under the banner of 'Washington Telangana Association', Justice Kant said, 'With procedural adaptations and a growing recognition of cross-border complexities, the courts have made justice more accessible to those living abroad. In certain areas, the judiciary has also extended the protection of Fundamental Rights, ensuring that non-resident citizens are treated with fairness and equality under the law. ' 'In doing so, it reinforces the message that India's commitment to justice does not end at its borders, it reaches all those who continue to carry the country in their hearts,' he added. Commending the resilience of Indian diaspora to maintain their identity while continuing to participate in the technological innovations, research and community service in the countries they have made home while exploring opportunities, Justice Kant said the Indian identity thrives in our languages and festivals, but also in our collective commitment to justice, dignity, and mutual respect. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! ' Commending the role played by the Indian diaspora as ambassadors of India's rich cultural and constitutional legacy by not only preserving it for ourselves but sharing it with the world, the next CJI said, 'In doing so, we honour not only our past, but also our enduring responsibility to shape a future that is united in diversity, grounded in justice, and inspired by the very best of who we are.' 'The success of the Indian diaspora is not only measured in individual achievement - though that alone is remarkable. It is also reflected in the collective identity that communities have preserved and passed on across generations. Whether through temples, cultural centres, schools, or community events, the diaspora has cultivated a sense of belonging and solidarity, making the Indian identity one that thrives far beyond national borders,' he said.
