Music Review: English post-punks Wet Leg level up on sophomore album, 'Moisturizer'
The Grammy Award-winning Wet Leg emerged from England's Isle of Wight in 2021 with the quirky viral hit, 'Chaise Lounge,' which released before they had ever performed live. The song immediately charmed audiences, a cheeky track centered on Teasdale's deadpan delivery and guitarist Heather Chambers' chunky, jagged bursts. They grew from there, releasing a self-titled debut album in 2022 that rose to the top of the UK charts.
On 'Moisturizer,' the two have greatly expanded their skills and range. But they've also retained the raunchy, goofy energy that gained them an adoring audience.
The new version of Wet Leg is no longer just a duet. Their touring band, bassist Ellis Durand, drummer Henry Holmes and guitarist/synth-player Joshua Mobaraki have formally joined the project and share writing credit on several songs. The expanded band complements Chambers' oddball progressions and facilitates a bigger, more layered sound.
The opening track, 'CPR,' opens with Holmes' drums and Durand's funky bassline before the guitars come in. The band can now groove as well as grind. The lyrics capture the silliness and dead seriousness of a bruising crush. Playing the dispatcher, Chambers asks, 'Hello? 999. What's your emergency?' Teasdale answers, 'Well… the thing is… / I… I… I… I… I… / I'M IN LOVE.'
Across the album, there are plenty of tracks that work to rattle car speakers and dominate summer festival mainstages. On the belligerent single 'Catch These Fists,' Teasdale declares, 'I don't want your love / I just wanna fight.' On 'Pillow Talk,' Teasdale coos over an industrial metal drone and delivers some of the horniest lyrics in the band's notably graphic catalog.
The slower songs show off the band's new tools. 'Davina McCall," named after the English television presenter, begins bendy with some oddball chord changes and surprisingly delicate vocals. The slow jam '11:21' could sit next to the soft singer-songwriter Weyes Blood on a playlist. 'Don't speak,' written and sung by Chambers, channels the bluesy energy and corny-sweet lyrics of late Replacements.
In total, Wet Leg — now a full band — has a fuller sound. Fans will be wise to join them on the journey.

Beyoncé's final 'Cowboy Carter' concert draws A-list celebrities to Las Vegas
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter concluded her "Cowboy Carter" tour with a final performance in Las Vegas, drawing some of Hollywood's biggest names to Sin City for the occasion. The Grammy-winning singer kicked off her final concert at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas on July 26. The concert marked her last of two back-to-back shows at the stadium on her Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour. It also served as the last of her 32 stadium concerts across the U.S. and Europe. While celebrities have been showing up all tour long, the Las Vegas closer brought out some of the biggest names in one star-studded night. Of course, Beyoncé's core circle, including her husband, Jay-Z, her mom, Tina Knowles, and her dad, Mathew Knowles, were among those to attend the final shows. However, other attendees included some of biggest power players in the industry. Gayle King, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Kris Jenner attend Beyoncé's final show Before the show began, Gayle King shared photos from the venue alongside some famous friends — including Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian. Beyoncé ends tour with a bang in Vegas: Destiny's Child, Jay-Z, Shaboozey join her onstage
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter closed the curtain on her historic "Cowboy Carter" tour, delivering a final performance filled with surprises, special guests and power as she commanded the stage one last time. The Grammy-winning singer kicked off her final concert at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas on July 25. The concert marked her last of two back-to-back shows at the stadium on her Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour. It also signaled the end of her "Cowboy Carter" era, concluding the 32-stop stadium tour. 'Thank you and welcome! We have a very special show for y'all tonight,' Beyoncé said as she opened the show. And true to her word, surprise guests and performances lit up the night. Of course, Beyoncé first debuted the highly anticipated show at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28 with 39 songs on the set list. The tour proved to be revolutionary spectacle filled with fashion, different music genres and most notably country music and cultural commentary. Destiny's Child reunites onstage for surprise performance One of the biggest moments of the night came when Beyoncé brought out her former Destiny's Child group members for a surprise performance. Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams stunned the crowd as they joined her onstage, delivering throwback hits like their 2001 anthem 'Bootylicious' and 2005 hit 'Lose My Breath.' The crowd erupted as the trio sang their individual parts and danced in sync with energy and chemistry. Shaboozey joins Beyoncé for surprise performance during her Las Vegas finale Another surprise came when Shaboozey took the stage and performed with Beyoncé for the first time during Saturday's show — the only 'Cowboy Carter' collaborator to do so. Jay has joined Beyoncé several times on this tour, after first making a surprise cameo in Paris on June 22, and fans were still stunned to see him the final night. Once again, they sealed the performance with a kiss. Bey also brought back fan-favorite tracks from her 2013 self-titled album: "Partition" and "Drunk in Love." In addition to special guests and surprise performances there were other notable highlights from the finale. Beyoncé debuts new looks on final night, including 'Deja Vu' shirt Of course, Beyoncé's tour has been a huge showcase of fashion and creativity. Each night, Beyoncé continues to blend high fashion and cowboy couture, keeping fans on the edge of their seats as they anticipate a new look. There's been many looks incorporating Western-glam: sparkly chaps, cowboy hats, boots and piles of fringe. During the final show, Beyoncé showcased even more fresh looks. One outfit, in particular, caught fans' eyes as she wore a 'Deja Blue' shirt in support of her 13-year-old daughter and lead dancer — Blue Ivy. Blue has left a lasting impression, often dancing front and center throughout the tour. This included a standout performance to Beyoncé's 2006 song 'Deja Vu.' There were several standing ovations, loud cheers and moments where Beyoncé seemed to soak it all in. At one point she told the Vegas crowd they might actually be the loudest of the tour. 'I want y'all to know these tours take years and years and years. I actually started working on this tour before the 'Renaissance,'' she told the crowd before calling the night special. Earlier in the day, Beyoncé's Parkwood Entertainment company underscored the final concert's significance. "It's national day of the cowboy," the company posted on Instagram. "A tribute to the roots. A celebration of the style. And the final ride of the Cowboy Carter era. Today we honor the legacy of the Black cowboys who shaped this country — and the hive who showed up with pride, leather and the legacy in every look." The nine-city tour spanned the U.S. and Europe, captivating audience on both sides of the Atlantic.
