8 Beauty Essentials For Your Next Escape

8 Beauty Essentials For Your Next Escape

Forbes2 days ago
My latest trove includes a throwback to Clinique, a brand I used as a teen and have fallen in love with again in my 40s, a no-frills drugstore body moisturizer, a lip mask from a Korean skincare line, and fragrances from a French perfumer that get me compliment after compliment. The following 8 goodies are what I'm toting along on my late summer and fall escapes- most are already in my trio of toiletry bags and ready to go.
Clinique High Impact Shadow Play
Clinique's High Impact Shadow Play in Rose + Truffles. Clinique
I have these dual-ended eyeshadow sticks in every color- well, almost. They're in my toiletry bag, purse, and also in my makeup kit at home. The hues are gorgeous - one side is a base while the other, a deeper shade, is meant to be layered on top for a bit of pop. They're TSA-friendly and super simple to apply- no brushes needed here, and, come time to cleaning my lids, the shadows easily wipe off.
Flexitol Very Dry Skin Cream
Flexitol Very Dry Skin Cream
Flexitol's Very Dry Skin Cream. Flexitol
My skin literally begs for moisture- it's scaly and flaky and sops up any cream I slather on. This all gets much worse whenever I fly and especially if I'm going to a colder destination. Flexitol's Very Dry Skin Cream has been a game-changer. It's ultra-hydrating and keeps my skin soft, silky, and moisturized for more than 24 hours. The texture is rich and thick, yet it's not greasy at all. I have multiple tubes, which I keep in my toiletry kit, by my bedside, and in the bathroom.
Nusa Holistick Matahari Youthful Oil
Nusa Holistick's Maatahari Youthful Oil Nusa Holistick
There are facial oils, and then there's Nusa Holistick's Matahari Youghtful Oil which does wonders to hydrate my complexion and leave it glowing. Its made using a killer combination of vitamin loaded, anti-aging boticanls including sea buckthorn, prickly pear, and rosehips seeds. A few drops is all you need first thing in the morning or before bed for beautifully soft skin- one bottle will last you a while.
Dr. Pawpaw Scrub and Nourish
Dr. PawPaw's Scrub and Nourish Dr. PawPaw
Here's another travel-friendly mainstay I tote on all my trips: Dr. PawPaw's two-step Scrub and Nourish is a powerful treatment for my ultra-dry lips. The duo of products- a balm and scrub- comes in a stackable pot. The latter gets rid of flaky skin, while the balm keeps them soft. The featured ingredients in both include Aloe vera, castor and olive oils, and pawpaw fruit, which is said to be nourishing and hydating.
Natura Bisse's Diamond Luminous Tinted SPF 40
Natura Bisse's Diamond Luminous Tinted SPF 40 Natura Bisse
If you want to always look like you've just been on or are in the middle of a fabulous beach vacation- to the South of France, perhaps, or the Greek Isles- this Tinted SPF 40 from luxury Spanish skincare brand Natura Bisse is the product for you. It leaves your skin with that enviable sheer glow and wards off the harmful rays of the sun at the same time. I use it year-round to transport me back to my summer escapes and to get in the mood for the next one I'm dreaming about.
Marly's Delina Trio Set
Marly's Delina Trio Set Marly
To say that I can't get enough of the French fragrance brand Marly may be an understatement. In my opinion, the perfumes all smell divine. Delina and Delina Exclusif are my everyday go-tos, and I don't want to be without them when I'm on a trip. This trio includes three Delina iterations, all TSA-friendly. In addition to the two I referenced, it has Delina La Rosée, made of Damascena rose. The hard part of this may be deciding which one to spray on.
Dae Mega Value Wash Care Ritual
Dae's five-piece wash care ritual. Dae
A high-quality travel-sized haircare set is hard to come by. Dae's Wash Care Ritual is a much-needed newcomer. It comes with five TSA-approved products, all of which smell divine: a color-safe shampoo and conditioner, a desert detox shampoo for oilier strands, a hydrating prickly pear oil to minimize frizz, and a mirage mist- that is, a luxe leave-in conditioner to detangle and nourish those strands.
Femmue Lip Sleeping Mask
Femmue's Cozy Petal Lip Sleeping Mask Femmue
Seriously, this mask has simply transformed my lips from parched and flaky to a state of buttery smoothness and sheen. I slather it every night. It's made with Damask rose flower water, camellia oil, squalane oil, fatty acids, vitamins, and other effective ingredients. And while it might be called a sleeping mask, you can use it any time of the day.
Live Tinted HUESTICK Complexion Stick
Live Tinted's Complexion Stick. Live Tinted
Like the Clinique dual-sided eyeshadows I highlighted above, I'm raving about this complexion stick. It's so easy to use, no brushes or sponges needed. I tap it on to cover a blemish or hyperpigmentation during the day, then blend it with my fingers, or swipe it all over for full coverage at night. Plus, the compact size and magnetic cap make it perfectly travel-proof.

Michael ‘Fitz' Fitzpatrick on jet lag, crashing a scooter, and using AI to help plan a trip

I would go to the south of France. I grew up with a French mother taking me to France as a child, so it always holds a special place in my heart. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Do you prefer booking trips through a travel agent or on your own? Advertisement It can be stressful, but we love to plan our adventures. We have kids, and we rent a car, and sometimes we find a place on Airbnb because our max drive time is four hours. As a result, we've discovered all these amazing small towns and places you'd never visit as a tourist. Thoughts on an 'unplugged' vacation? I definitely want to battle my phone addiction and unplug, but I also have kids, so we let them have a little screen time so we can stay sane as parents! What has been your worst vacation experience? Crashing a scooter on an island in Vietnam about 20 years ago and having to fly back to the US with a partially collapsed lung. Brutal. What is your favorite childhood travel memory? Traveling with my parents to Rome for my first time without my siblings. Just me and my parents. I was 12 or 13 and was able to live out the fantasy of being an only child. Advertisement Do you vacation to relax, to learn, or for the adventure of it all? I would say all. I like a balance of relaxation, with a hefty dose of adventure mixed in, and a light sprinkling of museums and historic sites. What book do you plan on bringing with you to read on your next vacation? 'Trust' by Hernán Díaz. If you could travel with one famous person/celebrity, who would it be? Anthony Bourdain, because I know I would eat the best food of my entire life and have a really amazing [experience] of culture and food coming from one of the greats. And I'm sure that guy liked to party. What is the best gift to give a traveler? A universal plug adapter. What is your go-to snack for a flight or a road trip? Peanut M&M's and Sun Chips. What is the coolest souvenir you've picked up on a vacation? We've collected sea glass from just about every corner of the earth. What is your favorite app/website for travel? This was the first year that I used AI to help work through planning our trip. I used it to compare two towns based on my family, my kids' ages, and our interests. It gave me incredible insight into each place with amazing comparisons and really helped me find the best places to visit that fit our family. What has travel taught you? Nothing teaches you more about the diversity of the human experience than traveling. What is your best travel tip? Jet lag hack: If you're flying to Europe from the US, book a flight that gets you in around 1 p.m. … Drop your bags and stay outside in daylight as long as you can and make yourself stay up until at least 10 p.m. Add one melatonin and you will completely avoid jet lag. AirAsia KL-Incheon flight makes surprise landing in Gimpo instead, passengers report confusion and two-hour delay

SEOUL, Aug 14 — Passengers on an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Seoul's Incheon International Airport reportedly faced a delay of more than two hours after the aircraft unexpectedly landed at Gimpo International Airport nearby without prior notice. Korea JoongAng Daily reported that Flight D7 506 circled in Korean airspace before landing at Gimpo — around 40 km away — at 8.08pm on Wednesday, instead of its scheduled 7.50pm arrival at Incheon. 'A passenger mentioned we were at Gimpo, not Incheon, and even the crew looked surprised and asked us to confirm,' a 38-year-old passenger surnamed Kim was quoted saying. 'Once the crew realised it really was Gimpo, they became visibly flustered. Many passengers had already begun taking out their luggage, thinking we had arrived.' Incheon International Airport is located about 50km west of central Seoul, while Gimpo International Airport is about 15km away. Kim said passengers were told conflicting explanations, including turbulence and a fuel shortage, but there was no sign the plane had been refuelled. 'Even when we finally got to Incheon, no apology was given,' she added. A video recorded on board captured a flight attendant saying the plane had 'run low on fuel' and that the landing at Gimpo was an emergency measure, with the pilot checking if the flight could continue to Incheon. The aircraft stayed at Gimpo for about two hours before departing at 10.03pm and arriving at Incheon at 10.56pm. Kim's 44-year-old husband with the surname Choi, reportedly said passengers were not given clear information. 'There was no clear explanation about what the emergency was or how long we would be delayed … It was very frustrating,' he said. The cause of the diversion has not been officially confirmed. AirAsia has not commented on the incident.
