President Joseph Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam unanimously agree on the need for the state to be the sole bearer of arms in the country, without 'any provocation resulting from the use of the term disarmament,' political sources said.
'This is a mission that President Joseph Aoun will assume and will coordinate its phases with Speaker Nabih Berri, who is considered Hezbollah's 'big brother,' and based on this brotherly relation between Berri and Hezbollah the Speaker will have to explore Hezbollah's viewpoint on the issue of arms,' the sources told Al-Jadeed TV.
Shiite Duo sources meanwhile told the TV network that 'Hezbollah is not against the exclusivity of arms in the hands of the state' and that 'it agrees with President Joseph Aoun on three principles.'
'The first is that the resistance is not a militia and that its right is enshrined in international laws, the ministerial statements and the Taif Agreement, which disarmed militias and did not disarm the resistance when it was implemented,' the sources said.
'The second principle is that the resistance is committed to the ceasefire and to keeping the area south of the Litani River free of arms, and accordingly Hezbollah has been cooperating with the army throughout the entire past period and is in constant coordination with it in the handover of its arms in the area south of the river,' the sources added, noting that U.S. envoy Morgan Ortagus 'has been put in the picture of this cooperation.'
The sources added that the third principle is that 'the resistance's arms should be approached as part of a national strategy' and that 'this strategy comes after the liberation of the five hills and the captives, after curbing the Israeli enemy's expansion of the buffer zone and after Israel's commitment to halt the aggression against Lebanon.'
The Shiite Duo sources added that 'it is totally baseless that Speaker Berri is exploring Hezbollah's stance as to committing to deadlines related to the handover of weapons.'

Lebanon wants to strengthen relations with Iran while preserving national sovereignty, President Aoun tells Larijani

President Joseph Aoun met with Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, in Beirut on Wednesday, discussing Lebanon-Iran relations and regional issues. During the meeting, Aoun emphasized Lebanon's desire to cooperate with Iran within the bounds of sovereignty and mutual respect, noting that recent statements by some Iranian officials had not been helpful. He stressed that the friendship between Lebanon and Iran should include all Lebanese, not just one sect or community, and reaffirmed that Lebanon is the homeland of all its citizens—Christian or Muslim. Aoun added that the Lebanese state, through its constitutional and security institutions, is responsible for protecting all communities. He rejected any foreign interference in Lebanon's internal affairs, calling for a secure and stable environment for all Lebanese without discrimination. 'Lebanon, which respects the sovereignty of other nations, including Iran, will not accept interference in its internal affairs,' he said. He warned against attempts to exploit foreign support against fellow Lebanese, stressing that no group should carry arms or seek outside backing to challenge others. President Aoun also highlighted that any threats from Israel or elsewhere are challenges for all Lebanese, with national unity as the key to facing them. Larijani conveyed greetings from Iran's president and reiterated an invitation for Aoun to visit Tehran, expressing Iran's willingness to assist Lebanon in reconstruction efforts. Larijani said Iran seeks to strengthen relations with the Lebanese state and people on all levels, praising Aoun's role in reinforcing national unity and bridging divisions across all sects and communities. He emphasized that Iran does not interfere in Lebanon's internal affairs, and his statements in Beirut reflect the official stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He added that Iran wishes to maintain strong relations with Lebanon and is ready to assist if requested by the Lebanese government.

Iran respects Lebanon's internal decisions, pledges help if requested, says Ali Larijani

Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said Wednesday that Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri is 'a friend of Iran and a key figure in Lebanon's political scene.' Speaking from Ain al-Tineh, he emphasized that Iran does not intend to interfere in Lebanon's internal affairs and respects any agreements coordinated by the Lebanese government with local factions. 'But if any part of the government requests assistance, we will provide it,' he added. Addressing the Lebanese public, Larijani said, 'Your enemy is Israel.' He stressed that Iran has not brought any political agendas or 'papers' for Lebanon, unlike the United States, asserting: 'We do not intervene in your internal affairs.' Larijani expressed confidence in Lebanon's resistance, describing it as having a strong strategic mindset, and noted that external powers should not impose demands on Lebanon. 'Any decision the government makes in cooperation with the factions, we respect it,' he stated. He also highlighted that Iran's strength comes from the unity of its people and the principles of the Iranian revolution. Larijani concluded by saying that through friendly and serious dialogue, Lebanon can reach sound and constructive outcomes.
