Woman dies in Effingham stabbing incident
A WOMAN was fatally stabbed in Effingham this afternoon in a tragic incident that is believed to be domestic-related.

The attack occurred shortly before midday on Effingham Road, prompting an urgent response from local security and police services.
Marshall Security confirmed that its Emergency Dispatch Centre received a distress call at approximately 12:00, reporting a stabbing in the area.
Armed Response Officers and members of the company's Special Operations Team were immediately dispatched to the scene.
'Upon our teams' arrival, it was confirmed that Greenwood Park SAPS had already apprehended the suspect following a separate call for assistance,' said Tyron Powell, spokesperson for Marshall Security.
'Despite the rapid response, the female victim had sustained multiple stab wounds and was tragically declared deceased at the scene.'
Marshall Security expressed its condolences to the victim's family and pledged full co-operation with law enforcement.
'We commend Greenwood Park SAPS for their swift and professional action in ensuring the suspect was brought into custody without delay,' Powell added.
Police investigations are ongoing.

Sassa grant payments delayed due to undisclosed income
THE South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), in collaboration with registered Credit Bureaus, has identified 210 000 social grant beneficiaries who appear to be receiving income that was not disclosed to the agency. As a result, this month's grant payments will be delayed for some of the affected beneficiaries. Sassa said according to the Social Assistance Act and its regulations, beneficiaries are legally required to fully disclose all sources of income during their initial application. Spokesperson for Sassa Paseka Letsatsi said failure to comply with these requirements constitutes a violation of the Act and may result in corrective action. 'As part of this initiative, social grant payments for the affected beneficiaries will be delayed in the June 2025 payment cycle. These individuals are required to present themselves at their nearest Sassa local offices for a grant review within 30 days from this notice date, in line with Regulation 30 of the Social Assistance Act. Beneficiaries who fail to comply with this process risk having their grants suspended. Continued non-compliance may lead to the permanent lapsing of their grants,' said Letsatsi. Letsatsi said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that beneficiaries confirm any changes in their financial circumstances and update their personal details. 'It also seeks to address potential inclusion errors in the current social security system. A beneficiary may have qualified for a grant at the time of application, but improved material conditions over time may render them ineligible,' said Letsatsi. Sassa has encouraged all beneficiaries to disclose any alternative sources of income and to report any additional bank accounts not previously declared. 'Sassa reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on fraud, and should there be evidence of any officials colluding with beneficiaries to defraud the system, immediate disciplinary and legal action will be taken to safeguard the integrity of the Agency and prevent financial losses,' Letsatsi added. Metro police enforce zero-tolerance policy on illegal truck parking
THE Clairwood Ratepayers and Residents Association (CRRA) has applauded the swift reaction by the metro police in issuing fines to truck drivers found parking on residential roads in Clairwood. The association said the sting operation conducted in Clairwood on June 4 demonstrated that metro police are taking a firm stance against drivers who violate municipal by-laws. Public relations officer of the CRRA, Ravin Brijlal, said, 'Metro police are doing an excellent job in Clairwood about trucks parking on roads. The issue of trucks parking on residential roads is inconveniencing residents and causing safety hazards. 'We applaud their time and efforts. Trucks are given several parking fines, which is excellent, but ultimately if they are towed away by metro police the community will be glad if that is done,' said Brijlal. Metro police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said 80 trucks were fined for illegal parking and causing obstructions. A former traffic officer in Mpumalanga has been sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for housebreaking and the murder of his wife's lover, Thamsanqa Sbusiso Nkosi.
