ETAP Issue Expected To Be Resolved By June
KOTA BHARU, April 26 (Bernama) -- The issue regarding the increase in On-Call Duty Allowance (ETAP) for health workers is expected to be finalised by June at the latest, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He said a committee chaired by Tan Sri Dr Abu Bakar Sulaiman, who is a former Health Director-General, is currently in the final stages of negotiations before the decision is finalised.
"The committee is actively discussing and is currently in the final phase of negotiation. We hope a decision can be reached soon.
"I understand the workload of health workers who work around the clock, and hope that all processes can be completed by June at the latest," he told a press conference after opening the state-level 2025 MADANI Afiat Programme in Tunjong, here, today.
Dr Dzulkefly said this when asked to comment on the latest developments regarding the on-call allowance for health workers.
He said the welfare of health workers has always been a priority for him since helming the ministry.
"Waiting is torture. I hope this matter can be concluded in May because I know they are working very hard. We have reached the end of the discussion. God willing, this time we will resolve the matter," he said.
It was previously reported that the Health Ministry had received approval to increase ETAP for health workers.
ETAP is compensation for the additional responsibilities carried out by Medical Officers in treating patients while on-call at hospitals after normal working hours.

KUALA LUMPUR: A high-level committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will review the Health Ministry's findings on the long-standing issue of stagnant consultation fees for private general practitioners (GPs). Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the committee would refine the ministry's recommendations before they are presented to the government for a final decision. "No date has been set yet," he told a press conference today, but gave his assurance that the matter would be tabled "in the near future." He said the decision to escalate the issue followed discussions between the Health Ministry and the National Action Council on Cost of Living (Naccol). On May 3, Dzulkefly announced that the review of private GP consultation fees was expected to be finalised within a month. He also said cabinet approval was the final step required before the amendments could be implemented. GP consultation fees are regulated under the Seventh Schedule of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services (Private Medical Clinics or Private Dental Clinics) Regulations 2006, under the Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998. On April 8, Dzulkefly said the ministry was awaiting a decision from the Finance Ministry on the proposed revision. He had earlier confirmed on March 4 that the fees had not been revised for nearly two decades.

Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative has benefited 405 media practitioners
PUTRAJAYA: A total of 405 media practitioners nationwide have benefited from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative since its launch in conjunction with the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) in 2023. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said more media practitioners are being targeted for assistance in conjunction with the highlight of the HAWANA 2025 celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC KL) on Saturday (June 14). 'We will assist not only more people but also those who had previously received the contribution. 'If there is anyone we need to reach out to and provide additional assistance, I will ask that this matter be looked into,' he said. He told reporters this after presenting the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA contribution to News Straits Times (NST) photo editor Ikhwan Munir, 50, who is undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer at Putrajaya Hospital, here today. Also present were Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Media Prima Group managing editor Jasbant Singh. The fund is an initiative by the Communications Ministry and implemented by Bernama. Fahmi said that, as such, Bernama would continue to monitor the needs of Ikhwan, who has two children aged seven and 23. 'Ikhwan has been battling health issues over the past few weeks, so his wife can't work. Insya-Allah, Bernama will continue to monitor (his situation) to see if we need to provide any more assistance to him after this,' he said. In another development, Fahmi said he also used the opportunity to get feedback from the Putrajaya Hospital authorities regarding telecommunication coverage and Internet access at the health facility. 'They are satisfied, though they did say there is a small problem with one of the telecommunication service providers (telcos) over at the new wing. So, I have asked this telco to come and help optimise their services,' he said.

Gaza's Healthcare System On Verge Of Total Collapse
GENEVA, June 9 (Bernama-QNA) -- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warned that the healthcare system in Gaza is on the verge of total collapse, as part of the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against Palestinians in the Strip for more than a year and a half, Qatar News Agency reported. In a statement on Sunday, the ICRC said that most of the injured Palestinians were trying to reach aid distribution centre.
