Balachander, who was instrumental in shaping both their careers, once shared a poignant incident: Rajinikanth had arrived at Sridevi's housewarming party, determined to confess his love. But just as he reached, a sudden power outage left the house in complete darkness. Deeply superstitious, Rajinikanth took it as a sign, an ill omen, and quietly walked away. He never spoke of his feelings again. In 1996, Sridevi went on to marry producer Boney Kapoor.
