NRAI reveals India squads for upcoming international Shooting competitions

New Delhi, July 07 (UNI). The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), has revealed the India squads for upcoming international competitions, including the senior squad for the 16th Asian Shooting Championship (ASC) Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun, scheduled in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, between Aug 16-30, 2025.

The 16th ASC senior squad comprises 35 members for the 15 events including three mixed team competitions. Double Olympic bronze medalist Manu Bhaker, yet again being the only shooter to have made it to two individual events- the women's 10m air pistol and the women's 25m pistol.
Prominent names to have made it back to the senior squad include former men's air rifle world champion Rudrankksh Patil and Olympians Anjum Moudgil (women's 50m rifle 3 positions), Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar (men's 50m rifle 3 positions), Saurabh Chaudhary (men's 10m air pistol) and Kynan Chenai (men's Trap).

NHL sets 2025-26 opener: Florida Panthers' Stanley Cup banner vs. Chicago Blackhawks, full schedule out Wednesday

PhotoHockey fans can start marking their calendars, at least in pencil. The NHL has given everyone a first glimpse of its 2025-26 regular season, announcing three marquee games that will open the year on October 7. While the rest of the schedule will officially drop on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET, the league's initial release offers some early drama: a banner-raising ceremony in Florida, a classic showdown in New York, and a late-night clash on the West Coast. All eyes will be on where star players have landed in free agency, setting the table for big-time matchups as the season unfolds. NHL unveils first games ahead of full 2025-26 schedule release The NHL confirmed the first three games of its 2025-26 regular season slate, setting the tone for what promises to be an eventful year. On Tuesday, league officials announced that the full schedule—including every team's complete 82-game journey—will be unveiled Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET. Fans can expect a busy opening night on October 7. The Florida Panthers will host the Chicago Blackhawks in a special 5 p.m. ET game at home. That early start is no accident—it gives Florida time to honor their 2025 Stanley Cup win by raising their championship banner before the puck drops in front of a raucous crowd. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Later that evening, at 8 p.m. ET, the Pittsburgh Penguins will visit Madison Square Garden to face off against the New York Rangers. It's a matchup designed to bring immediate Original Six energy and playoff-level tension to night one. Capping off the triple-header will be the Colorado Avalanche taking on the Los Angeles Kings in California, with the puck dropping at 10:30 p.m. ET. When asked about the staggered times, a league source told reporters on Tuesday, 'We want opening night to feel like a celebration coast to coast. Fans will have hockey on their screens from early evening until late at night, no matter where they live.' The full reveal on Wednesday will also include teams like the Columbus Blue Jackets, whose supporters are eager to see how their 82-game slate takes shape. What to expect beyond NHL opening night The schedule has taken a little longer to finalize this year than usual. While the NHL hasn't officially explained the delay, there's a good reason: the 2026 Winter Olympics are on the horizon, and their inclusion in planning has added layers of complexity. One executive, speaking anonymously on Tuesday, explained, 'It's not just about cramming 82 games in anymore. You have to account for a break if there's Olympic participation.' Others have floated a simpler, more strategic reason for the wait. By delaying the full release, the league could see where high-profile free agents like Mitch Marner and Nikolaj Ehlers signed. That way, they could highlight juicy matchups pitting players against their former teams, boosting ticket sales and TV interest. For now, fans have three compelling games to circle on their calendars, and the promise of much more detail coming midweek. The NHL's slow-roll announcement strategy seems to be building anticipation the old-fashioned way. By Wednesday afternoon, every team—from the reigning champion Panthers to rebuilding clubs like the Blue Jackets—will know exactly where and when they'll be chasing their 2025-26 dreams. Stay tuned. LA 2028 Olympics unveils competition schedule, marks PlayLA milestone

Organizers of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics on Monday released the first look at the Olympic competition schedule, highlighting a historic reshuffling of key events and the most ambitious sports lineup in Games history. The announcement comes as the city marks three years to go until the Opening Ceremony and celebrates a major legacy milestone: more than one million enrolments in the PlayLA youth sports programme. For the first time in nearly three decades, the Summer Olympics will return to the United States, with Los Angeles hosting for the third time after 1932 and 1984. The 2028 Games are set to feature 844 ticketed events designed to maximize both domestic and international viewership. Organizers revealed that the Opening Ceremony will take place on July 14, 2028, at 8:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. PT), split between the LA Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The Closing Ceremony is scheduled for July 30 at the Coliseum. Track and field events will open the Games in the first week, with swimming moving to the second week, culminating in its finale on the penultimate day at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The first Olympic champion of LA28 will be crowned at Venice Beach in the triathlon event, while the marathon will close out athletics on the final weekend. Day 15 is expected to be the busiest for medal events, with 16 team sport finals and 19 individual sport finals taking place. 'The Olympic competition schedule has been meticulously developed to ensure the world's best athletes can compete in LA,' LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said in a statement. 'We are energized by today's milestones and remain focused on the work ahead as the Road to 2028 continues.' Organizers said the schedule will continue to be refined, with a more detailed breakdown to be released later this year. 'When the world comes here for these Games, we will highlight every neighbourhood as we host a Games for all and work to ensure it leaves a monumental legacy,' LA Mayor Karen Bass said. Meanwhile, Hoover joined city officials on Monday at an event at the Coliseum to celebrate PlayLA surpassing one million programme enrolments. The initiative, backed by up to $160 million in investment from LA28, the city's Recreation and Parks Department, and the IOC, provides affordable and inclusive sports programming for children aged 3-17 across more than 40 Olympic and adaptive sports.

Jadeja's lone battle falls short as Eng seal victory

London, July 14 (UNI) England edged out India by 22 runs in a pulsating third Test at Lord's today, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Shoaib Bashir's decisive dismissal of Mohammed Siraj late in the final session sealed the win for the hosts after a tense final day that saw Ravindra Jadeja fight valiantly with the bat. Set a target of 193, India were bowled out for 170 in 74.5 overs. Siraj's dismissal, bowled through the gate by a sharply turning delivery from Bashir, triggered wild celebrations from the England camp and broke Indian hearts. The standout performances in the match came from Joe Root and KL Rahul, who struck sublime centuries in the first innings for their respective sides. Root's fluent 104 anchored England's innings, while Rahul's composed 100 kept India on par. England's 387 was also boosted by useful fifties from Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56), who chipped in with crucial lower-order runs. India had looked set for a first-innings lead, but Rishabh Pant's needless run-out for 74 turned the tide. He and Jadeja had added stability with their fifties, but once Pant fell, the innings lost steam and India were bowled out for 387 — identical to England's score. Jasprit Bumrah was India's standout bowler, claiming a five-wicket haul in the first innings and adding two more in the second. For England, Chris Woakes led the bowling effort with 3 for 84 in the first innings. In the second, it was Archer and Stokes who did the damage with three wickets apiece before Bashir delivered the final blow. On the final day, India resumed at 58 for 4 and slumped to 112 for 8 by lunch, with Archer and Stokes scything through the middle order. Washington Sundar (0) and Pant (9) were removed in quick succession, while Rahul departed after a successful review for LBW off Stokes. Jadeja stood firm amid the collapse, reaching a gritty unbeaten 56 by tea. He brought up his fifty with a top-edged slash off Stokes and had earlier struck a six off Woakes and a stylish flick for four off Stokes. But he ran out of partners as Bumrah, who contributed 5, was dismissed by a short ball and Siraj eventually fell to Bashir's decisive delivery. India's effort was also buoyed by moments of fortune — a few leg byes and misfields — but ultimately fell short. Jadeja's stoic presence raised hopes in the Indian camp, yet it wasn't enough to prevent defeat. The series now moves to Old Trafford, where India will aim to level the score. Brief Scores: England 387 & 192; India: 387 & 170 Result: England won by 22 runs UNI BDN GNK
