Sindh's masses compelled to buy even basic necessities: JI
Addressing a press conference at Idara Noor-e-Haq, the JI Karachi headquarters, on Saturday, Monem Zafar criticised the Sindh Assembly for approving a 190 percent increase in lawmakers' salaries while, according to him, offering nothing meaningful for the common man.
He said education had become one of the most expensive commodities under the PPP government's policies, noting that only two public sector schools are available for every 100,000 people in Karachi, compared with 145 for the same population in some rural areas of the province. He added that around 27,000 out of 37,000 schools in Sindh have no electricity, 15,000 lack drinking water, and 11,000 are without washrooms.
Monem also criticised the allocation of 117 self-sponsorship and 47 self-finance seats at NED University, calling it a blow to merit. He said Karachi faces a worsening water shortage, accusing the provincial government and mayor of issuing contradictory statements over the Hub Canal 2 project.
According to him, it now appears the city will receive water from the old canal through a new but already deteriorating channel.

President of PCF, Tariq Samuel, paid tribute to the sacrifices of minorities in the creation of Pakistan, stating that minorities are an integral part of the nation's identity and progress. 'Pakistan is our country — our forefathers sacrificed for this homeland and as minorities, we have always stood with our nation. We are proud to be Pakistanis and are ready to make every sacrifice for the peace, development, and prosperity of the country,' he said. The mausoleum administration presented a Guard of Honour to all religious leaders, recognizing their role in promoting peace and unity. Tariq Samuel, along with all participants, laid floral wreaths at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and offered prayers for national unity, harmony, and the prosperity of Pakistan. PTI voices its opposition to ‘proposed' 27th Amendment
ISLAMABAD: The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday voiced strong opposition to the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, accusing the ruling coalition of eroding judicial independence and centralising power within the executive. Talking to reporters, PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram condemned the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill, describing it as a continuation of what he termed an ongoing campaign to undermine the judiciary, following the contentious 26th Amendment. 'The 26th Amendment amounted to a judicial massacre and now they want to finish the job,' he added. 'They want a judiciary that offers no resistance. PTI will oppose this tooth and nail.' He argued that the earlier amendment curtailed the powers of the Supreme Court and reduced the high courts to mere 'rubber stamps', warning that the new proposal would entrench this trend further. Akram called on Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, to take a firmer stand, warning that public trust in the judiciary was steadily eroding. 'We are witnessing a slow, calculated dismantling of every safeguard within our democratic and legal frameworks,' he said. Raising concerns over former Prime Minister Imran Khan's wellbeing in custody, Akram demanded immediate access for Khan's personal physicians, as well as a medical team from the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, which Khan founded. 'If anything happens to Imran Khan, the state will bear full responsibility,' he said, holding the Maryam Nawaz-led Punjab provincial government accountable for his treatment while detained. He further accused both the federal and Punjab governments of authoritarian overreach, citing custodial deaths, extrajudicial killings, and what he described as the 'unchecked power' of law enforcement agencies. Bilawal inaugurates various development projects in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while inaugurating various development projects here, stated that special attention is being given to the city's progress. Addressing media on Tuesday here at Niaz Stadium, Bilawal criticized the past political neglect of Hyderabad, accusing previous administrations of divisive politics. He reiterated that the PPP's goal is the city's development and public service. Highlighting the Sindh Peoples Housing Project, he called it the world's largest and Pakistan's most transparent initiative, free from corruption. Under this project, 2.1 million concrete houses are being constructed across Sindh, with ownership rights granted to deserving families. Bilawal noted that the PPP has established many educational institutions and universities in Sindh, with a goal to have a university in every district. He also mentioned that the Sindh Public Accounts Committee has recovered Rs20 billion through transparency, which is being reinvested in the province's development. Regarding Hyderabad's airport, Bilawal stressed that the second-largest city in Sindh deserves an international airport and pledged to raise the issue with the federal government. Commenting on terrorism in Balochistan, he condemned attacks on labourers and workers, stating efforts are under way to have these groups declared terrorist organisations by the United Nations to cut off their international funding. On the 26th Constitutional Amendment, Bilawal highlighted the achievement of equal representation for all provinces in constitutional benches. Addressing India's water aggression, he affirmed Pakistan's commitment to its constitutional and legal rights but stressed the need for a modern irrigation system to address water scarcity. Bilawal emphasized that democracy can only thrive when institutions operate within their mandates and politicians stick to politics, enabling the country to unite and progress. He urged collective efforts to address public issues, stating that the nation belongs to everyone, and every citizen has a role in its development. Earlier, Bilawal inaugurated the state-of-the-art Khan Bahadur Hassan Ali Effendi Peoples Park, spanning 14 acres and designed as an urban forest with over 5,000 trees and 10,000 plants.
