Stormers: Team list, kick-off time for URC quarter-final

The Stormers face arguably the toughest task of all three South Africans to qualify for the URC quarter-finals as they travel to Scotland to face the defending champions, the Glasgow Warriors, on Friday.
Kick off is at 20:35 SA time.
With Damian Willemse suspended after recently receiving a red card, Warrick Gelant returns to the No 15 jersey. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is at 10, with Manie Libbok finding a place on the bench.
In the pack, the powerful Evan Roos returns at No 8 and will undoubtedly have a point to prove after being omitted from the latest Springbok alignment camp.
'The build up to this game has gone well and we know that it will take a huge effort to beat a good Glasgow team on their home track,' Dobson told the Stormers' official website.
'We have built up some good momentum recently and want to take that into this game. This was a very tough team to pick with some deserving players missing out, but we are excited to see what these combinations can do.'

Proteas set T20 ambitions aside as focus shifts to ODI series against Australia

The first of three ODI matches between SA and Australia will be played in Cairns on Tuesday. While the main focus over the next six months will be on the T20 format, South Africa's three-match ODI series against Australia beginning on Tuesday will give head coach Shukri Conrad a chance to start building his squad for the next 50-over World Cup, according to spin bowler Keshav Maharaj. The Proteas have played two T20 series since Conrad took over as national limited overs coach earlier this year, including a narrow 2-1 defeat to hosts Australia in a three-match campaign which concluded at the weekend. And though the next T20 World Cup is in India and Sri Lanka early next year, and the next 50-over World Cup is only in 2027, Maharaj felt Conrad's first ODI series in charge of the Proteas would be useful for the new coach to start looking ahead. 'It's an opportunity to try combinations so that probably by next year, I would assume, you'll have a better and clearer understanding of the 2027 landscape towards a squad,' Maharaj said on Sunday. 'It's a wonderful opportunity. I think it's always nice playing three formats of the game because it also tests how you adapt, and I think in World Cup events where you're faced with different conditions it sort of negates the inability to adapt at times. 'I also think it's an opportunity for Shuks (Conrad) to identify the combinations and style of cricket he wants to play.' Maharaj retains T20 ambitions Despite missing out on the T20 series which concluded in Cairns on Saturday, with Australia clinching a thrilling two-wicket victory to wrap up the series win, Maharaj said he still had ambitions to compete in next year's T20 World Cup. Asked if he had considered retiring from the shortest format of the game, the 35-year-old spin bowler said he was still committed to the Proteas in all three formats. 'The T20 World Cup in 2026 is a huge one for me… so for now I'm happy to play all three formats,' he said. 'I still love bowling, and until that passion falls away I'll probably consider something like that, but for now I want to play all three formats for my country and be a match winner.' After the first ODI between SA and Australia in Cairns on Tuesday, the second and third matches of the series will be played in Mackay on Friday and Sunday.

Springbok fan WEEPS after loss to Wallabies

A die-hard Springbok fan dramatically wept after the thrice World Cup-winning champions lost their match to the Wallabies at Ellis Park over the weekend. The national team faced off against their rugby rivals in the first of their Rugby Championship series games, where they were beaten 38-22. The loss has knocked South Africa out of World Rugby's number one ranking and into third place behind New Zealand and Ireland. In a TikTok video, a Springbok fan is seen loudly weeping after the final whistle is blown, signalling the Wallabies' victory. @tiffanyambermoses My mom after today's #rugby game ☠️ #springboks ♬ original sound – Tiffany-Amber Moses The woman was among many rugby fans who were left sad and disappointed by the shock loss. Some had travelled to watch the game live in action at Ellis Park. One Springbok supporter told rugby commentator Robbie Gillett: 'I travelled all the way from Dublin, Ireland, to watch South Africa beat Australia. But they didn't deliver today. It was disappointing…make it make sense!' Another added: 'It was a terrible night, coming all the way from Potchefstroom'. @_lakaka_25 #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #springboks #funny #kuwait #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp ♬ original sound – _lakaka_25 @robbiegillettrugby What do you guys think? 🤔 #rugby #springboks ♬ original sound – robbiegillettrugby The Springboks game wasn't the only sporting loss South Africans were licking their wounds over. Springbok women's Zintle Mpupha - It's never about the number on my back

Springbok women's rugby player Zintle Mpupha, known for her versatility and commitment to elevating women's rugby in South Africa, is set to play a crucial role in the team's Women's Rugby World Cup campaign in England, starting with a pivotal match against Brazil on August 24. Picture: BackpagePix Image: Backpagepix Such is her commitment to the cause that Springbok women's Zintle Mpupha is unconcerned by which position she plays, as helping the team out any way she can is always the main objective. That quality could stand her in good stead at the Women's Rugby World Cup (RWC) in England, as the SA outfit is optimistic about making it out of the pool stage. South Africa kick off their Group D campaign on August 24 against Brazil in Northampton. Their next matches are against Italy, in York, on August 31, and France, in Northampton, on September 7. The match against Brazil could be pivotal for the Bok women, as it will be their only clash as favourites. Video Player is loading. 'It gives the coaches more options, whether it's to cover for an injury, adjust to the opposition's strengths, or change the tempo of the match. For me, it's never about the number on my back — it's about being where the team needs me on the day. 'That adaptability also brings calm to high-pressure moments, because I know I can contribute in different ways to keep us competitive and give us the best chance of winning.' Mpupha's Role in Elevating Women's Rugby in South Africa In raising the profile of women's rugby in South Africa, Mpupha - much like her willingness to help out wherever needed in the backline - did not shy away from the task. 'I hope my performances show what's possible for women in rugby and inspire more young girls to see themselves in the sport. Every time I step onto the field, I'm not just playing for myself — I'm representing the growth of women's rugby in South Africa. 'If my performances can help spark more interest, attract more support, and open more opportunities for the next generation, then I've done more than just play a game — I've contributed to the bigger picture of where we want the sport to go.'
