Microsoft joins India's Yotta Data Services to boost AI innovation in country
Microsoft
and Yotta Data Services, India's leading sovereign cloud infrastructure and platform services provider, on Wednesday partnered to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in India.

participants, government agencies, IITs, startups, enterprises, and software development companies to leapfrog AI innovation.
Microsoft said it would bring its AzureAI services to Shakti Cloud, Yotta's AI cloud platform, to offer cutting-edge AI capabilities to developers, startups, enterprises, and public sector organisations across India.
"Our partnership with Yotta to power Shakti Cloud will help unlock AI innovation at scale. Microsoft is honoured to play its part in helping the country realise its AI ambitions through innovation that reflect India's unique needs and priorities," said Puneet Chandok, President, Microsoft India and South Asia.
India is already among the top global markets on AI adoption and return on investment. Together with Yotta, we will continue to help India become an AI-first nation, securely and responsibly, he added.
As of May, IndiaAI Mission has received over 500 proposals for developing indigenous AI models.
Shakti Cloud customers will benefit from a rich ecosystem and vast catalogue of foundational LLMs and SLMs available on Azure AI Foundry to develop, deploy and scale at the speed of AI.
Built-in safety tools, content filters, groundedness detection, and copyright protection will empower organisations to build and scale AI responsibly. As a global provider of software, infrastructure, and cloud services, Microsoft runs on trust and enables trustworthy AI by prioritising security, privacy, and safety.

In January this year, Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced a collaboration with IndiaAI, a division of Digital India Corporation, to advance AI and emerging technologies in the country, and established AI Centre of Excellence and AI Productivity Labs to foster inclusive growth.

In India, one out of every five millennials has experienced job insecurity in their workplace in 2025. A new survey on Millennials in the Workplace 2025, by Great Place to Work, highlights a mixed picture of employee wellbeing, retention, and career growth. The report, which studies employees born between 1981 and 1997, shows that financial well-being remains the biggest challenge, with 1 in 4 millennials struggling. While 83 per cent of millennials report working in a psychologically safe environment, the remaining 17 per cent lack emotional and mental workplace support. The data reveals a clear link between psychological safety and loyalty—millennials who feel safe at work are twice as likely to stay long-term compared to those who don't. 10 emerging cities in India for job hunt Among the sectors, Financial Services and Insurance and Retail lead with the highest psychological safety, with the rating of 84 per cent, followed closely by Health Care, Information Technology, and Manufacturing & Production, each recording 83 per cent, as per the report. These skills are must for 2025 hiring opportunities On the other hand, sectors like Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals and Professional Services show slightly lower ratings at 80 per cent, making them the least performing sectors in terms of psychological safety. Indian employees aim less stress, flexible jobs over career advancement Despite this, 15 per cent of millennials expressed intent to leave their jobs, with attrition highest in IT and professional services and lowest in retail and manufacturing. Job insecurity also looms large, as 1 in 5 millennials fears layoffs, particularly in biotech, IT, and professional services. The highest levels of intent to leave are seen in Professional Services (18 per cent) and Information Technology (17 per cent), indicating higher workforce mobility in these sectors. Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals matches the overall rate at 15 per cent, while healthcare and financial services and insurance record slightly lower values of 14 per cent each. India's best workplaces in manufacturing sector in 2025 On the positive side, 82 per cent of millennials received upskilling and re-skilling training opportunities in the past year, and 89 per cent were provided with adequate resources and equipment. However, only 47 per cent felt they had strong opportunities to innovate, suggesting organizations need to focus on fostering creativity alongside skilling.

ISRO plans rocket for 75-tonne payload
HYDERABAD: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is developing a rocket capable of placing a 75,000 kg payload into low earth orbit, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan announced at the 84th convocation of Osmania University on Tuesday. Delivering the convocation address, Narayanan said the proposed rocket would be as tall as a 40-storey building. 'The first launcher, built under the leadership of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, had a 17-tonne lift-off mass and could place 35 kg in low earth orbit. Today, we are working on a rocket that can carry 75,000 kg,' he said. Narayanan outlined ISRO's upcoming projects, including the launch of a Navigation with Indian Constellation (NaVIC) satellite, the N1 rocket, and the placement of a 6,500 kg communication satellite for the United States into orbit using Indian rockets. The agency also plans to launch the Technology Demonstration Satellite (TDS) and GSAT-7R, a military communication satellite for the Indian Navy, this year. At present, India has 55 satellites in orbit, a number ISRO aims to triple in the next three to four years. Narayanan also referred to the proposed Bharatiya Antariksh Station, a 52-tonne space station expected to be operational by 2035, with initial modules to be launched from 2027. He added that India aims to send an astronaut to the moon and bring them back safely through a fully indigenous mission by 2040.

Microsoft Excel Tests New Copilot AI Function for Smarter Spreadsheet Automation
Microsoft Excel is stepping into a new era of productivity with its AI-powered Copilot function, now being tested for Windows and Mac users in the Beta Channel. The feature, available with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, promises to make spreadsheets far smarter and easier to manage. The new Copilot function uses natural language prompts to automatically fill spreadsheet cells, much like Google Sheets' AI tool introduced earlier this year. With Copilot, users can generate summaries, classify text, create tables, and even draft product descriptions without leaving Excel. For example, feedback about a coffee machine can be quickly categorized using the formula: =COPILOT("Classify this feedback", D4:D18) The results are then displayed directly in the referenced cells. Microsoft has provided additional examples, such as: Generating text: =COPILOT("Create a description for this product based on its specs", B2:B8) Summarizing text: =COPILOT("Summarize this feedback", A2:A20) Powered by OpenAI's gpt-4.1-mini model, Copilot is a refined version of Microsoft's earlier GENERATIVEAI experiment was launched in 2023. It can also be paired with Excel's existing functions, including IF, SWITCH, LAMBDA, or WRAPROWS, offering more flexibility for advanced users. Microsoft assures users that 'the input remains confidential and is used solely to generate your requested output,' emphasizing that no data from Copilot prompts will be used to train AI models. However, the company has outlined certain limitations. Copilot cannot pull information from outside the spreadsheet, and usage is capped at 100 functions every 10 minutes. It also isn't recommended for numerical or high-stakes tasks involving compliance, law, or regulation, as Microsoft admits that Copilot 'can give incorrect responses.' Despite these restrictions, the rollout marks a significant step in Excel's evolution. Microsoft plans to refine the feature further, with potential improvements including a more advanced AI model and possible web access support. For everyday users, Copilot could transform Excel into an even more powerful tool for organizing, analyzing, and presenting data.
