The Scandinavian capital named the world's most liveable city right now
At Time Out, we have a pretty good idea of where in the world is a good place to live. After all, we annually produce roundups of the best cities for transport, green space, walkability and general good vibes, making it easy to decipher where you might want to relocate based on what's important to you.
But the Global Liveability Index is a handy tool at your disposal, too, and its overall liveability score is based on five major factors. They are stability (such as the threat of conflict or prevalence of petty crime); healthcare (availability of over-the-counter drugs, quality of public healthcare); culture and environment (temperatures, levels of censorship); education (availability and quality of private education) and infrastructure (quality of road networks, public transport and water provision).
In 2024, the crowning city was Vienna, but that has now been knocked off the top spot by none other than (drum roll, please!) Copenhagen. Shocked? No, neither are we.
Copenhagen has been in the limelight of late, and for all the right reasons. It claimed a spot in the top 20 of the Global Cities Index published last month, and was also recently named the world's happiest city.
But what makes Copenhagen so liveable? Well, it was beaten by its Austrian counterpart in the healthcare category, but scored perfectly in stability, education and infrastructure, garnering it a solid 98 out of 100 overall.
And the Danes are clearly proud of their happy, liveable culture. Back in November we reported that Copenhagen was offering people who moved there 'life quality insurance', which you can read all about here.
After Vienna in second place, Zurich, Melbourne and Geneva round out the top 10, with Europe claiming four places in the ranking, and Australia claiming three.
These are the 10 most liveable cities in the world

Major European holiday destination will let Brits use e-gates to avoid queues
UK passport holders can now skip lengthy waits to get their documents stamped at the airport in Sofia, Bulgaria by using the e-gates system as part of the new deal EU-UK deal Holidaymakers heading to Bulgaria will be able to avoid nightmare queues this summer as e-gates are rolled out to Brits. UK passport holders can now skip lengthy waits to get their documents stamped at the airport in Sofia by using the quicker e-gates system. Last year, nearly half a million Brits visited the popular holiday destination. It comes after Keir Starmer sealed a deal with the EU last month, which agreed there would be no legal barriers to allowing British travellers to use e-gates abroad. Since Brexit, UK passport holders have generally had to queue for manual checks at border control. But under the pact, the EU has agreed to ease checks universally on British travellers. EU Relations Minister Nick Thomas-Symonds told the Mirror: 'Today's eGates win is great news for Brits travelling to the EU – and a clear sign of the Government's pragmatic reset of our relationship with Brussels and European capitals.' Keir Starmer hails 'common sense' deal with EU as a 'win-win' - with boosts for shoppers and tourists Faro Airport, in Portugal, was the first to start the rollout last month, with cities like Paris, Lisbon and Rome following suit. More countries are set to follow suit, with Tallin, in Estonia pencilled in for next year. The Government has faced criticism over the pace of the rollout of e-gates after the Prime Minister initially said it would apply immediately. However the EU plans to launch its new Entry/Exit System (EES) in October 2025, which will scrap the requirement for non-EU citizens to have their passports stamped. It is thought that more European airports will allow Brits to use the e-gates after this new system is brought in. List of best airlines in the world revealed
Air carrier review website Skytrax has released its list of the world's best airlines. Qantas, Australia's flagship carrier, was named the 14th-best airline in the world. The news may come as a shock to some travellers following several years of bitter backlash against Qantas - including massive government handouts during Covid, unfairly sacking workers and becoming embroiled in political drama after offering politicians placements in the Chairman's Lounge. Skytrax released its ranking on Tuesday with Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific taking the top three spots. The remaining 10 positions were respectively handed to Emirates, ANA All Nippon Airways, Turkish Airlines, Korean Air, Air France , Japan Airlines and Hainan Airlines. Qantas Airways was ranked 14th - beaten by Swiss Int'l Air Lines in 11th, EVA Air in 12th and British Airways in 13th. Qantas received several other awards from Skytrax including Best Airline in Australia/Pacific. 'To be recognised as the Best Airline Australia and Pacific reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering for our customers and is testament to the exceptional work of our people,' Qantas Group CEO, Vanessa Hudson, said. 'I want to sincerely thank our incredible team of more than 29,000 people around the world, who bring such passion and pride to the work they do every single day. 'This award belongs to them.' In 2024, Qantas was ranked 24th on the world's best airlines list. Qantas again received several 2025 Australia/Pacific awards for its class offerings. Those included Best Economy Class, Best Economy Class Onboard Catering, Best Business Class, Best Business Class Onboard Catering and Best Premium Economy Class. The airline also claimed awards for the Best Cabin Crew in Australia/Pacific and Cleanest Airline in Australia/Pacific. One of the other top Skytrax awards for Australia was handed to Virgin Australia for the Best Airline Staff Service in Australia/Pacific. The carrier was also awarded Best Regional Airline in Australia/Pacific and Most Family Friendly Airline in Australia/Pacific. Virgin Australia was ranked the second-best regional airline in the world. Jetstar also collected two awards from Skytrax in 2025. Those were Best Low-Cost Airline in Australia/Pacific and Best Low-Cost Airline in Australia. Only two awards for the Australia/Pacific region were awarded to non-Australian companies. Those were Best Premium Economy Class Onboard Catering awarded to Air New Zealand and Best Business Class Lounge awarded to Air New Zealand – AKL. The remaining top 20 airlines by Skytrax were Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic, Saudi Arabian Airlines, STARLUX Airlines, Air Canada and Iberia.
