Video clip case: At least two individuals to be charged, says Azam Baki
BANGI: At least two individuals are expected to be charged in connection with a video clip of the alleged corruption scandal involving a Sabah state assemblyman.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said he will make the announcement of the prosecution of the two individuals soon.
"I will announce in a very short time the charging of the individuals in the case," he told reporters after attending the second MACC Law Enforcement Accredited Programme Convocation.
It was reported that the MACC has completed the investigation paper regarding a video clip of the alleged corruption scandal involving a Sabah state assemblyman.
According to a source, the investigation paper was sent to the prosecution for review two weeks ago.
The source said there is a possibility that prosecutions will be carried out against several individuals.
Meanwhile, Azam confirmed the matter and said that there might be further prosecutions against several other individuals.
Recently, several video recordings have gone viral, allegedly showing conversations related to corruption between certain individuals and several Sabah lawmakers regarding the issue of mineral mining licensing in the state.
The MACC had previously announced that it had opened investigation papers regarding the matter and conducted a thorough investigation, including digital forensic analysis of the evidence.

However, it has been learnt that investigators, together with the MACC Tactical Team (ACTS), carried out a search at the Tan Sri's residence beginning 9am yesterday, which concluded at 1.30am today. It is understood that several residential units within the vicinity of the main property were searched during the operation. During the search, MACC is believed to have seized various luxury items, although no official confirmation has been made. When contacted by Utusan Malaysia, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the postponement of the statement-taking session. He said a medical report issued by the Tan Sri's attending physician confirmed that his current condition does not permit him to proceed with giving a full statement. 'MACC respects the medical assessment and the doctor's advice. The session will be rescheduled once he has fully recovered, which is expected next week. 'Yesterday's session lasted only about two to three hours before it had to be cut short on medical grounds,' he said. When asked whether any new seizures had been made in connection with the Tan Sri, Azam said further details would be announced in due course.
