Sukuk misuse case: Investigation to be completed within two months, says Azam Baki

BANGI: The investigation into the alleged misuse of sukuk funds in a Klang Valley highway project is expected to be completed within a month or two, according to Tan Sri Azam Baki. The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner stated that the time frame is necessary to allow the investigation team to gather complete information. "We need to analyse several pertinent documents, including financial statements. So far, we have already recorded the statements of 53 witnesses to assist with the investigation," he said at a press conference after attending the second MACC Law Enforcement Accredited Programme Convocation on Thursday (June 12). Azam mentioned that more witnesses will be called to assist with the investigation. "The statement recording of a Tan Sri will resume today," he added. On Tuesday (June 11), the Tan Sri's statement was recorded over six hours, from 9am to 3.07pm. Azam highlighted that the highway concessionaire is a key witness in the investigation. Earlier reports indicated that 45 individuals who had given statements were recalled to provide further information. On June 3, the MACC disclosed it had seized assets worth around RM143mil in the probe, which focuses on the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for a Klang Valley highway project. Investigators are also tracing luxury vehicles and properties linked to the Tan Sri, including assets in London and Switzerland.

Video clip case: At least two individuals to be charged, says Azam Baki

BANGI: At least two individuals are expected to be charged in connection with a video clip of the alleged corruption scandal involving a Sabah state assemblyman. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said he will make the announcement of the prosecution of the two individuals soon. "I will announce in a very short time the charging of the individuals in the case," he told reporters after attending the second MACC Law Enforcement Accredited Programme Convocation. It was reported that the MACC has completed the investigation paper regarding a video clip of the alleged corruption scandal involving a Sabah state assemblyman. According to a source, the investigation paper was sent to the prosecution for review two weeks ago. The source said there is a possibility that prosecutions will be carried out against several individuals. Meanwhile, Azam confirmed the matter and said that there might be further prosecutions against several other individuals. Recently, several video recordings have gone viral, allegedly showing conversations related to corruption between certain individuals and several Sabah lawmakers regarding the issue of mineral mining licensing in the state. The MACC had previously announced that it had opened investigation papers regarding the matter and conducted a thorough investigation, including digital forensic analysis of the evidence.
