Big cookies, tiny shop: Makies opens at Elsewhere Garden Bar

Axios06-05-2025

If any bar in San Antonio were to host an on-site cookie shop, it'd be Elsewhere, the popular whimsical River North hangout that feels plucked from Wonderland.
The latest: A charming kiosk called Makies is now open on the property, selling chunky, gooey, New York-style cookies and soft serve.
Co-owners María Guerra and Anderson Urquina began selling their cookies as market vendors at Elsewhere last year. They officially opened the tiny shop there in April.
The big picture: "We were struck by the energy, fun atmosphere and delicious food and drinks at Elsewhere. However, we noticed there was a lack of sweet treats for people to enjoy during or after a fun time with family and friends," Guerra tells Axios.
"Nothing pairs better with a cold drink and good vibes than warm cookies and creamy soft serve. It's the sweet touch we didn't know we were missing," Elsewhere co-owner Terrin Fuhrmann tells Axios.
Zoom in: The menu features gooey cookie flavors like red velvet cheesecake, Nutella chocolate chip, s'mores and salted caramel pecan.
If you go: Makies is open daily. Hours vary, but you can snag a sweet treat as late as 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

WNBA Sends Message on Superstar's 48-Point Win on Sunday

WNBA Sends Message on Superstar's 48-Point Win on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On Sunday, the New York Liberty made history when they faced the Connecticut Sun and had a 100-52 victory. The Liberty, led by superstar Sabrina Ionescu, facilitated a 48-point deficit for the Sun to remain undefeated to start the 2025 WNBA season. New York is 7-0 this season and is one of only two teams that have gone undefeated so far. The other team is the Minnesota Lynx, with a 6-0 record. Advertisement The entire Liberty was on fire against the Sun. Ionescu led the team with her 18 points, five assists and two steals on 4-for-6 shooting from downtown. The three-time All-Star was the only player to score at least 15 points for the New York team. Connecticut Sun guard Saniya Rivers tries to get past New York Liberty guard Sabrina Jones-Imagn Images Because of Ionescu's performance against Connecticut, the league recognized her and posted a message for the star player. "Sabrina Ionescu was firing on all cylinders in the Liberty's 48-PT win over the Sun," the league posted. Ionescu helped the team with their first 19 points of the game with her scoring and passing. Following the contest, she explained that the team tends to focus on getting everyone involved. Advertisement "We didn't have any idea, because that's how we practice. There's no one-on-one, no hero ball, just understanding of searching for our best shot... It was fun out there, just getting everyone going and feeling good," the Liberty star said through Nekias Duncan. The Sun, however, couldn't capitalize on getting their first win of the season. Last week, Connecticut had an 85-83 victory against the Indiana Fever. The Fever didn't have their best player, Caitlin Clark, as she dealt with a quad injury. Marina Mabrey and her team will have time to prepare until they play the defending champions. Their next game against each other is on August 1. Sabrina Ionescu Under Fire For Her Behavior Amid 46-Point Lead

Sabrina Ionescu Under Fire For Her Behavior Amid 46-Point Lead originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty continued their stellar run to begin the 2025 WNBA season, remaining undefeated through seven games. Advertisement On Sunday, Ionescu and the Liberty jumped to a league-best 7-0 with a 100-52 win over the Connecticut Sun. Ionescu finished the game with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, five assists and two steals. But it was her actions with a 46-point lead that caught attention. With 5:42 remaining in the third quarter and New York holding a 74-28 lead, Ionescu was called for a foul after blocking a Marina Mabrey 3-pointer. The challenge was successful and the call was overturned, prompting Ionescu to run around the court, pumping her fists in celebration. The former Oregon star even ran to her coaching staff and aggressively high-fived each one. Advertisement "When the challenge is successful," the Liberty joked on X with a video of Ionescu's celebration. WNBA fans were not pleased with Ionescu's "embarrassing" celebration with such a large lead, taking to social media to leave their thoughts. "You'd never see a NBA player celebrate a successful challenge like this in a close game of the NBA finals let alone a regular season game where they are up 45+ Absolutely embarrassing," one fan said. "This is embarrassing," added another. "What a clown show," wrote a third. "That's…kind of cringe," commented a fourth. "This was very weird," posted a fifth. "Caitlin would never show this kind of class," claimed a sixth.
