Qatar athletes excelled on the opening day of the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, in various disciplines at the Gumi Civic Stadium on Tuesday.
In the men's 400m, Ammar Ismail Ibrahim impressed topping the first semi-final in 46.05 seconds for an appointed place in the final to be run on Wednesday.
Ibrahim reached the semis following a comfortable win in Heat 4 with a time of 46.71 seconds.
Qatar's Ashraf Hussen Osman also advanced to the final of the one-lap contest despite finishing fourth in the second semi-final with a time of 46.12 seconds.
Osman had earlier finished his heat in third position, clocking 46.92 seconds.
Meanwhile, in the men's 100m heats, Qatar's Salah Nur I A Yunis came third (Heat 3) clocking 10.36 seconds to make it to the semi-finals.
In the men's 1500m heats, Qatar made a strong statement, with two athletes qualifying for the final.
Former Asian Indoor champion Abdirahman Saeed Hassansecured his spot in the final by finishing sixth in Heat 2 in 3:49.04, while Hatim Ait Oulghazi came sixth in Heat 1 with a time of 3:51.95, andboth booked their places in the final.
On Wednesday, Qatar's rising starOumar Doudai Abakar is also set to compete in the men's 110m hurdles heats, while former Asian Games gold medallist Ashraf Amgad Elseify will aim for gold in the men's hammer throw final.

Samba also led Qatar to victory in the men's 4x400m relay alongside Hemeida, Hatim Aitoulaghazi, and Ammar Ismail Ibrahim. Earlier, Ibrahim had clinched Qatar's first gold in Gumi in the men's 400m final. China topped the medal table with 32 medals (19 gold), followed by India (24 medals, 8 gold) and Japan (28 medals, 5 gold).

26th Asian Athletics: Qatar make a golden finish
Qatar athletes delivered a strong show at the 26th Asian Athletics Championship in South Korea on Thursday, adding another gold medal and a bronze to their final tally. At the Gumi Civic Stadium in Gumi, Qatar's men's 4x400m relay quartet of Abderrahman Samba, Bassem Hemeida, Hatim Aitoulaghazi and Ammar Ismail Ibrahim clinched the gold medal with an impressive time of 3:03.52. The Qatari team fended off stiff challenge from India and China, who finished in second and third spots respectively. India finished with a national record of 3:03.52, while China clocked a seasonal best of 3:03.73. In men's steeplechase, Qatar's Zakaria Elahlaami claimed bronze. The 20-year-old excelled in a highly competitive field with a personal best time of 8:27.12. India's Avinash Mukund was first (8:20.92), while Japan's Yutaro Niinae came second (8:24.41). On Wednesday, Qatar's Ammar Ismail Ibrahim had won the men's 400m gold. Meanwhile, Qatar's Oumar Doudai Abakar narrowly missed out on a medal in the men's 110m hurdles, finishing fourth.

Qatar's Ammar wins 400m gold at Asian Athletics
Ammar Ismail Y Ibrahim delivered a sensational performance to win Qatar's first gold medal at the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, on Wednesday. The Qatari sprinter clocked 45.33 seconds to clinch the men's 400m title, ahead of Japan's Kentaro Sato (45.50) and Sri Lanka's Kalinga Kumarage (45.55). Fellow Qatari Ashraf Hussen M Osman finished seventh in the same race. Elsewhere, Oumar Doudai Abakar set a national record in the 110m hurdles heats to reach the final, while Asraf Amgad Elseify placed fifth in the men's hammer throw with a 69.82m effort. The Qatar Athletics Federation said, Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, President of the Federation, and members of the Federation's Board of Directors, Issa Al Harmi and Thabet Sorour Al Abdullah, celebrate with our champion Ammar Ismail his first gold medal in the Asian Championship.
