Collecting Coin looking to make it third time lucky in Irish EBF Maiden
Unraced at two, Jessica Harrington's colt was quite well regarded prior to his debut and he ran a race full of promise when finishing third behind Jagged Edge. Given the stable was under a cloud at the time, there was even more merit to it, and he followed up that run by finishing runner-up to the promising Fingerpaint.
Off for two months since that run, a period during which he was gelded, he sets a good standard in this race and, from a decent draw, he should be involved from the outset and prove too smart for these rivals. Raykir and Eichan San can give him most to think about.
The nine-year-old Loingseoir is due another visit to the winner's enclosure and can earn it by taking the finale, the Caulfield Industrial Handicap.
Trained by Michael Grassick, of late he has been running well without much luck, including last time out, when sixth in a competitive handicap at the Curragh.
From a decent draw and with Nicola Burns taking a handy 7lbs off his back, he looks sure to post a big effort and, if the gaps open up in time, he can put a seventh career victory on his card.
King Of Kingsfield can get back to winning ways by taking the Latin Quarter Beginners' Chase for Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy. The seven-year-old has won just twice in 15 starts but has often been highly tried.
In November, he made his chasing debut and jumped and travelled particularly well up until the final fence, where he made a terrible mistake. Whether it made the difference between winning and losing is impossible to ascertain but stablemate and winner Down Memory Lane is a leading fancy for tomorrow's Galway Plate.
The selection went back hurdling afterwards, without much reward, but back over fences and in this slightly easier company today, he can gain an overdue winning turn.
Great Attitude, who landed a gamble on his sole start to date, in a maiden hurdle, is an interesting rival, as is My Great Mate, but Jet Setting Jim got back on track last time out and can improve again. He makes each-way appeal.
The feature on day two is the Colm Quinn BMW Mile and Grey Leader has strong claims in a fiercely competitive race. Joe Murphy's horse was a winner at this meeting in 2024 and returns off an almost identical prep, and also gets to run off the same mark.
Runner-up to Evening Blossom on his most recent outing, he is capable of even better and is sure to have been primed for the return to this venue. He has strong claims, while the brilliantly consistent Coeur d'Or, who won this in 2023, and Slieve Binnian and Orandi, who finished a close third in the English Lincoln, hold obvious claims.
Flying Bay, who was also a winner at this meeting last year, has strong claims in the caulfieldindustrial.com Handicap. The four-year-old was off from that win here in August until early June and looked very much in need of the run. A fortnight later he reappeared and stepped up nicely to finish fifth behind impressive winner Summer Snow, who re-opposes. Sure to be much better for that run, he looks capable of winning off his mark of 76, though the high draw tempers enthusiasm just a little.

Top horse trainer Jessica Harrington has opened up about how she coped with her devastating cancer diagnosis. In 2023, Jessica revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2022. The Cheltenham Gold Cup-winner is now two years cancer free and the 77-year-old opened up about how she got through her cancer treatment, even during her toughest days. She told the Irish Mirror: 'I'm great. I'm two years coming up. And I feel great, and I'm very lucky, and I know, and it just shows that, you know, if you put your head down, take the treatment - it's not nice, but I always got up every morning, worked away - and be positive. 'I think you have to be positive. Anyone who talks to me and they said, how do you get through it? And I said, 'Okay, you need some support. Family is a great support. Friends are a great support'. 'But at the end of the day, it's up to you. Your attitude, I sort of felt like, you know, if I feel miserable, this thing will get a hold on me. I almost treated it like it was alive." 'It sounds very strange,' she told us at the launch of this year's Irish Champions Festival. Jessica praised staff on the oncology ward for having to 'put up with grumpy old people like me'. 'You know, the treatment I got was amazing. And the people, those people in those oncology wards, are just amazing. Those nurses are just amazing, you know, and what they have to put up with grumpy old people like me,' she said. Jessica joined Aidan O'Brien for a star-studded Irish Champions Festival launch earlier this week at The Leinster in Dublin. Speaking about what horses will race from her yard that weekend, she said: 'I know we will have a few that weekend. I'm not sure. I'm not certain what yet. You know, time will tell. 'We're still six weeks out and a lot can happen in six weeks. Yeah, I'm kind of hoping that I might have Hotazhell there, but he ran Saratoga and it just depends, he could easily turn up there, which would be very exciting. Jessica Harrington had huge praise for staff working in oncology wards in Ireland 'And I'll have various other ones in this handicap and that handicap. I ran a nice two-year-old the other day, Suspicious Minds. There will be horses there but at the moment it is still evolving.' The festival kicks off on September 13 in Leopardstown and will finish in The Curragh on the following day. Gowran Park tips: Plaza Athenee can make it third time lucky
Gowran Park hosts a seven-race card and Plaza Athenee can build on two promising efforts by getting off the mark in the sixth race, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden. John Murphy's three-year-old filly, unraced at two, made her debut in a Curragh maiden in late June and there was distinct promise despite her being beaten more than 10 lengths into sixth place. On her second start, in a maiden at Killarney's July meeting, she was sent off the 3-1 favourite but had to settle for second place behind Drama Queen. Only touched off following a protracted duel with the winner, who is now 90 rated, it was a significant step up on her debut effort, and more can be expected. Today's two-furlong shorter trip is of little concern, and she can take this en route to better things. It could be a good day for her rider, Colin Keane, as he also holds leading claims aboard Continuite in the feature, the listed Darley Irish EBF Hurry Harriet Stakes. The Juddmonte filly was placed on both starts at two and while she was off for 10 months prior to her recent return to action, over a mile at this venue, it didn't show as she stretched clear in the closing stages to win as she pleased. A full sister to Time Lock, who has won two Group 3s and a listed race over 12 furlongs, the selection ought to appreciate the step up to almost 10 furlongs, and while she is conceding experience to most of her rivals, she will take a great deal of beating. Easy Mover ran a fine race in defeat in the listed Corrib Fillies' Stakes at Galway and on that evidence she should appreciate the step up in trip. She appeals as the danger and best each-way alternative to the selection. Tickling can get off the mark for her career by taking the finale, the Curragh To Curragh Charity Cycle August 30 Handicap. Mark Molloy's filly showed precious little on her first three outings but there was a marked improvement on her first foray into handicap company. Slow to find stride that day, she was under pressure from a long way out and didn't enjoy the best of runs through the field, but was noted staying on really strongly to finish a close fourth behind Galaxy Wonder. She can only continue to improve and with James Ryan in the saddle, she can have a big say in the outcome of this race. Thegooseiscooked is sure to be popular amongst punters and has obvious claims, but may find one or two too good once more.

Magnolia Drive sadly went wrong after falling at the first on Monday at Ballinrobe, county Mayo. Sheeran Ltd Maiden Hurdle which was the opening race on the day's card at the packed venue. Noreen had bred the three-year-old filly who was trained by Joseph O'Brien. Tragically, that was her first outing over hurdles after showing significant potential while last month claiming a flat victory in Killarney. Jockey Simon Torrens was at least unharmed after they both went crashing to the ground in the heavy fall. Advertisement It comes as in quick succession to the death of Common Practice at the Galway Races. What's more, the latter was the Magnolia Drive's full brother. He was euthanised after tripping over the fourth-last hurdle during the Galway Plate. Similarly trained by O'Brien, the six-year-old had generated over €120,000 in prize money which included five wins. On a more upbeat note, the Limerick billionaire made a heartfelt gesture to his local GAA club earlier this week. The 74-year-old gifted Grand national-winning silks to South Liberties GAA. Advertisement The silks were worn by Paul Townend during the Aintree Grand National in 2024 when he rode I am Maximus to glory. The Willie Mullins-trained star is owned by McManus and has recorded nine career wins. 'End of an era for Irish racing' - Patrick Mullins on Thurles closure and future hopes for re-opening at Galway races McManus spent a large portion of his childhood living in Ballysheedy where South Liberties would have been his local club with their Dooley Park venue. The green and gold hooped design on the silks was inspired by the colours of the Limerick GAA club. Nash has been a mainstay in the Limerick team since 2016, winning five All-Irelands and six Munster titles. The two-time All-Star will hope to end his local club's 44-year Limerick senior Championship drought. South Liberties GAA took to social to say: "The club was beyond honoured recently, when JP Mc Manus presented this amazing frame to chairman John Godfrey, along with Barry Nash and Eoghan Godfrey.
