KENINGAU: Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or individuals who wish to contribute to the welfare of the Muslim community are advised to refer to the State Department of Islamic Religious Affairs (Jheains). Its Director Datuk Jumain Abdul Ghani, said this is important to ensure safety and compliance with the regulations set by body and other relevant government agencies. 'Any NGOs that intend to build any place of worship, whether a tahfiz school, mosque, or surau, must go through Jheains. 'This is to ensure that the location is suitable and appropriate for the surrounding community,' he said this during the launching ceremony of Masjid Al-Mu'min and the Raya Sekampung event at Kampung Tontolob Liwan in Tambunan. French tourists experience Aidiladha 'korban' in Kota Baru

KOTA BARU: A visit to Kota Baru during Hari Raya Aidiladha gave three Muslim women from France a chance to experience the korban (ritual animal sacrifice) up close, a moment they described as both meaningful and eye-opening. Siham Zouaoui, 28, her mother Amina Irbaiyne, 65, and their friend Nessrine Mameche, 26, joined local worshippers at the Muhammadi Mosque to observe the proceedings, which they said offered a new perspective on the significance of the Islamic ritual. "I was genuinely excited to see how Aidiladha is celebrated here," said Mameche, who arrived in Kota Baru three days earlier. "Watching the korban carried out and seeing the community working together was moving and inspiring," she added. Zouaoui, who arrived with her mother two days ago and is continuing her travels to Pulau Perhentian, said the experience made a deep impression. "As Muslim women, we feel truly grateful to be here on this special day. What stood out to me was how willingly and smoothly the volunteers carried out each part of the ritual," she said. The annual korban commemorates how Prophet Ibrahim and his son, Prophet Ismail, demonstrated their faith and obedience to God, offering a lesson in devotion and trust. Muhammadi Mosque's senior imam Nik Mohd Afif Azhan Nik Mohd Naidi said 36 cows were scheduled to be sacrificed this year, with 27 slaughtered today and the remaining nine on the third day of Aidiladha. The programme, he added, was carried out in partnership with several organisations, including Bank Rakyat, which provided logistical and financial support. "The meat will be distributed to around 2,000 people in need across Kota Baru," he said.

TAED plans Nomad replica to honour Double Six victims

Published on: Friday, June 06, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 06, 2025 By: Crystal Hermenegildus Text Size: Pandikar and members of Sunduvan Sabah NGO pose for a group photo after the 49th anniversary commemoration of the Double Six tragedy. KOTA KINABALU: A replica of the Nomad aircraft from the 1976 Double Six tragedy may be installed at Prince Philip Park, Tanjung Aru, as part of its redevelopment, said Tanjung Aru Eco-Development (TAED) chairman Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia. He said the existing memorial in Sembulan would remain, with the replica serving as an additional tribute to educate the public, especially youth, about the crash that claimed several state Cabinet members, including then Chief Minister Tun Fuad Stephens. Advertisement Pandikar assured the replica would honour the victims without sensationalising the tragedy, and said plans could be revised if concerns are raised by the victims' families. He said this after attending the 49th-anniversary commemoration at the crash site in Sembulan on Friday. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
