5,000 youth entrepreneurs to benefit

NABAWAN: The Chief Minister's Outreach Programme with non-governmental organisation (NGO) and young entrepreneurs is expected to benefit some 5,000 youth entrepreneurs by the end of June. Chief Minister's Department's Government and People Cooperation Institute (Ikrar) Director Azrul Ibrahim said since its launch in 2022, some 4,100 young entrepreneurs had received RM500 each in start-up capital to help kick-start or expand their small businesses. He said the programme was inspired by the Chief Minister's vision to ensure that the majority of young entrepreneurs operating small-scale businesses in rural and suburban areas receive support and assistance from the State Government. 'As of now 4,100 entrepreneurs, including in Nabawan, have received the aid, and we are targeting 5,000 recipients by the end of June,' he said when met during the Chief Minister's Outreach Programme with NGOs and Young Entrepreneurs at the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) on Monday. Also present were Nabawan Community Development Leader Deckson Andipai, Gagasan Rakyat Nabawan Youth Chief Ag Azuan Pg Hamzah and local community leaders. The programme was officiated by Nabawan Assemblyman Datuk Ghani Mohamad Yassin. Advertisement A total of 100 young entrepreneurs from the district received the aid during the event. Contractor charged with cheating woman of RM82,200

KENINGAU: A 40-year-old woman was charged with cheating another woman of RM82,200 over a house construction project. However, no plea was recorded from Nur Atiqah Jessica Jukoris after the charge was read to her before Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry on Tuesday. Nur Atiqah is accused of cheating the woman over the house construction project in Kg Tudan, Tuaran and resulted in the latter making 11 bank transactions totalling RM82,200 into two separate accounts, namely one under the name Nur Atiqah Jessica (Maybank), and another under PHS Service Enterprise (Public Bank). The charge stated that Nur Atiqah had met the woman and promised that the house construction would begin in June 2024 and was expected to be fully completed by October 2024 but no action had been made until the police report was lodged. The offence allegedly took place at 12.30pm on May 8, 2024 at the Maily Cafe, Tambunan. Nur Atiqah was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, whipping and also liable to a fine, on conviction. NABAWAN: Humayo FC emerged as the champions of the Nabawan State Assemblyman (Adun) Cup Series 2, 2025, in the men's open category during the final match held at Sports Complex here, Sunday. Malampoi FC A, who lost to Humayo FC in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a 0-0 draw at the end of the second half, claimed the runners-up position. Asria FT and Salarom Taka at third and fourth places, respectively. In the women's open category, Kampung Enam emerged as the champions, while Murni Real secured the runners-up position. Mix Team SF and WBFC at third and fourth places, respectively. In the Men's Veteran category, the NVLT team took the champion title, followed by Bahagia Legend FT as the runners-up. Kampung Enam VET and Tampusison at third and fourth places, respectively. Sook village hit by floods 7 times within 4 months

SOOK: Kampung Kuala Punteh has been hit by floods seven times within just four months this year. A resident, Puan Mariam Sakai, said the seventh flood caused the SIB church to be submerged up to thigh level. 'This situation is difficult for the residents as they have to repeatedly clean up the flood damage,' she said. After the flood in early May, the villagers cleaned the interior of the church building and used it to conduct Sunday worship services. However, when floods struck again the interior was once more filled with mud. Sook team is gong-beating champion

SOOK: The Murut Sook A group, which scored 89 per cent, emerged as the champion of the gong-beating competition held in conjunction with the district-level Kaamatan Festival at the town field, here, recently. The runner-up was Murut Bookan Tulid, who scored 83 per cent, followed by third and fourth places which went to Binuwou Laut and Malima Dusun Liwan, with 82 per cent and 77.5 per cent, respectively. Sook District Officer Caroline Benjamin Jiungan, who officiated the Sook Kaamatan traditional sports event, said the winning group is expected to represent the district at the State-level Kaamatan Festival to be held at Hongkod Koisaan, Penampang.
