Unemployed jailed for cheating

KENINGAU: An unemployed man was jailed six months for cheating a local man in the sale of a non-existent vehicle. The accused, Mohd Firaz Bin Gumpar, 28, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nurashikin Mokthar after the charge was read in the Magistrate's Court here on Monday.
Advertisement Based on the facts of the case, at around 10.17am on Dec 29, 2024 the victim came across a Facebook advertisement for a Toyota Hilux priced at RM23,000. Interested in the offer, the victim contacted the seller, who introduced himself as 'Azman' via 017-5046621 and another individual known as 'Mr Liew' via 011-23283648. The victim then made three payments totalling RM1,000 to CIMB account 8605460339. Subsequently, the victim was asked to pay an additional RM10,000 as a deposit. He later met the accused in person outside SL Auto Part in Sook to hand over the cash, witnessed by the victim's father. The victim later realised he had been scammed when the vehicle was not delivered as promised and his calls were blocked. The victim lodged a police report. Husband and wife among 3 fined for books related to deviant teachings
TEMERLOH: Three people including a couple were fined RM3,000 each at the Syariah Lower Court here today after pleading guilty to possessing books and documents related to the teachings of The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light. Muhammad Firdaus Yaacob, 35, and his wife Noor Zaza Atiera Zahanuddin, 26, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to them in front of judge Sarah Fawzia Ahmad Fuzi. The duo were separately charged for possessing religious books and documents containing 'The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light' teachings which iscontrary to the practices of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah. They had allegedly committed the offence at a house at Taman Jaya, Temerloh about 8.45am on June 4 this year. They faced charges under Section 18 of the Syariah Criminal Procedure Enactment 2013 which carries up to two years in prison or a RM3,000 fine, or both. Meanwhile, assistant environmental health officer Mohd Fikhrillah Abdul Rahman, 37, was fined RM6,000 after he pleaded guilty for possessing reading materials related to the deviant The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light and Syiah teachings. He had allegedly committed the offence at a government quarters in Temerloh about 7pm on June 12 this year. Syariah senior deputy public prosecutor Halipah Abdul Manaf along with deputy public prosecutor Busu Firdaus Abu Bakar handled the prosecution, while both the accused were not represented. The trio paid the fines. Early this year, the Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia declared that the teachings of The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light are deviant and contradict the principles of Islam, and Syariah law.

MCMC probes trio over viral leftovers video given to homeless man
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has taken statements from three individuals linked to a controversial video that went viral on social media. The clip, which showed them offering leftover food to a homeless man, triggered widespread backlash online. MCMC confirmed that the individuals were questioned today at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters in Johor. Authorities seized three mobile phones and SIM cards as part of the investigation. The commission stated that the video contained highly offensive content, provoking public anger and touching on sensitivities within Malaysia's multiracial society. The case is being probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries penalties of up to RM500,000 in fines, two years' imprisonment, or both. Indonesian Woman Jailed for Prostitution in Sandakan
KOTA KINABALU: A 50-year-old Indonesian woman was sentenced to three years in prison by the Sandakan Sessions Court on Tuesday for acting as a prostitution agent. Lely Fiter pleaded guilty before Judge Zaini Fisher @ Fisal to charges under Section 372 of the Penal Code, which criminalizes exploiting others for prostitution. Her sentence began on the date of her arrest, and she will be deported after serving her term. Police raided Lely's rented apartment at Taman Mawar Apartment at 3:30 p.m. on July 29 following a tip-off. An officer, posing as a customer, paid RM150 for sexual services with a 26-year-old local woman. Officers intervened before any act occurred, arresting both women and seizing RM150 in cash (the payment), condoms, tissues, and a mobile phone as evidence. The local woman, Zuraini Mohd Zaini, who admitted to offering sexual services, was fined RM1,800 or, in default, three months' jail under Section 372B of the Penal Code by Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry. She confessed to engaging in prostitution due to financial difficulties, stating that she received RM100 per transaction while Lely kept RM50 as commission. Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Azizi Hamil prosecuted Lely's case, while ASP Zamri Zakaria prosecuted the local woman's case.
